Re: Nintendo Download: 4th May (Europe)

MetalKingShield

Already got Blazing Star and the voice update for Zelda on Switch. Will get the extra character in Blaster Master Zero later.

Blazing Star is much more accessible than Alpha Mission II (it's hard, but there's no confusion about the power-ups). The pre-rendered graphics really date it, and I actually think Alpha Mission II has nicer sprites. Still good though.

Re: The ACA Neo Geo Series Has Gobbled Up Plenty Of Loose Change On The Switch eShop

These are brilliant games. I know people are waiting for NES and SNES, but these are just as good, if not better. Everything I've played so far improves the more you play it, and the more skilled you become at it.

Incidentally, I've found the Joy-con's d-pad fine for most of the games, but not the vs. fighters. It can do diagonals, but it's hard to roll a movement that includes a diagonal.

But anyway, keep the arcade games coming, and please can we have Double Dragon?

Re: Deals: Nintendo Switch - Upcoming Goodies For May And June

MetalKingShield

I would be quite keen on Ultra Street Fighter II, but it's a shame the Joy-con's d-pad is so poor. It's much harder to roll in a half- or quarter circle than a normal d-pad.

Some of the others are tempting, but a bit pricey. I'm hoping the Arcade Archives titles keep coming, as many of them are good value and great fun.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 12th April

MetalKingShield

It was good to see Blazing Star, and most of the 3DS releases look interesting. I'm not going to complain about anything related to retail games, because they will be at E3. However, it was slightly disappointing to not have more for the eShop. I'd love some more arcade games, not just the Neo Geo ones, and Virtual Console would be welcome too. If nothing else, it'd be nice to update our Wii U SNES purchases, and have them sitting on our Switches.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

MetalKingShield

I would be most likely to play Mario Maker or Star Fox, neither of which I bothered with on Wii U. It would be quite nice to have Wind Waker HD as well.

It would also be a good opportunity to uncensor Project Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X and (especially) Tokyo Mirage Sessions. They could restore it to Atlus' original vision, and remove the silly stuff like the trousers, which were even in the final Japanese release.

Not saying I'd actually buy any of those, to be honest, but they do represent opportunities of one kind or another.

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

MetalKingShield

I'd never played an open world game before Breath of the Wild and, honestly, it's put me off them. It seems to me that they feature game worlds that are huge for the sake of being huge, rather than built to be an appropriate size for their features. For the next Zelda, Nintendo should make a set of good dungeons, bosses and locations, and then think how big a game world they need to fit them in, rather than make an enormous map and struggle to fill in the gaps.

I would also remove breakable weapons, cooking and crafting items, because it slows the pace down too much.

Re: Guide: How to Farm Dragon Parts in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

MetalKingShield

Thanks for the guide.

Not wanting to interfere, but these are the ways I find them. None of them need campfires, and all of them can be found by sleeping until night, then rushing to the locations:

Dinraal - Warp to the Gorae Torr shrine on Gut Check Rock. Then run west and wait on the Eldin Leviathan bones.

Naydra - Warp to the Jitan Sa'mi shrine on Mount Lanayru. Glide west all the way to the base of the mountain and wait on the Lanaryu Road East Gate.

Farosh - Warp to Lake Tower and glide down to the southern end of Hylia Bridge. Wait atop the small tower there and the dragon will fly right past you.

Re: Poll: A Month of Nintendo Switch - Do You Think It's Heading for Success?

MetalKingShield

There's definitely more awareness of Switch than Wii U. In that regard, Zelda, Mario Kart and Splatoon may well be enough until Mario Odyssey is released, as relatively few people will have experience of those as Wii U games. I'd say Mario Kart in particular will be a huge indicator of potential success.

Like many others, I'm concerned about the lack of retail games. Nintendo needs to have an exceptionally good E3, so we have reassurance more genuinely big games are on their way; plus keep the eShop stocked with new games.

Re: Editorial: After The Bold Brilliance Of Breath Of The Wild, Where Can Zelda Go Next?

MetalKingShield

@Podoboo has hit the nail on the head. It's not that linearity is bad, or that freedom is bad; you just need the right balance between them. The freedom/exploration in Breath of the Wild is massively disproportionate to the main quest. Zelda needs to go back to the older formula, where you had a reasonable idea of which areas were worth exploring, and when it was better just to push on with the main story.

More generally... I think in a year or two people will realise Breath of the Wild, though excellent, just took too much from the open world formula. BotW gave us lots we should keep - like the physics - but Zelda doesn't need all the other trappings like cooking, crafting, limited inventories and breakable weapons.

Re: Review: Shock Troopers (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

MetalKingShield

@ACK - That's a good system actually (censored by default). I'm all in favour of people being able to see what they want (as long as it's legal, of course), but also in favour of offering protection to those who desire it. Nintendo should have implemented this with their recent censorship.
