Half-Genie Hero was quite enjoyable, but personally, I found it difficult enough. I'm not actually saying I found it hard; just that I don't mind if a game is on the easy side.
I gave up on caring about spoilers for this game almost as soon as I started playing it. It's so tough, I want to know everything! The more guides like this, the merrier.
@roadrunner343 - I agree. I can't see the link between where Zelda left off and this. It's like Nintendo has had an influx of very talented young programmers who have made an openworld game... and I'm sure it's a good example of that genre, but it's so much bigger than the OOT/WW/TP formula, it's overwhelming.
@FionnTheBrave - Yes, it's one of those things I am suspicious of, for several reasons. I do dabble when I have to, but prefer not to. Animals have probably got better instincts than us about this sort of thing.
To be fair to The Sun, I think some of the mini games do allude to sexual acts. Not that I think it should be banned, but there's definite innuendo there.
And The Sun is not hypocritical because it used to have topless women in it. Page 3 was not sexual, it was just a woman without a top. Just like a man without a top is not particularly sexual. Page 3 had far more in common with artistic nude than anything else (except it wasn't nude, as a bare chest is not nudity).
To sum up: 1-2 Switch has far more in common with sex than Page 3. Both are OK, but 1-2 Switch is the only one I'd find embarrassing in company.
1) Wind Waker 2) Ocarina of Time 3) Link's Awakening
I like those three because they are perfectly formed, have a large amount of magic to them and do not have any real gimmicks (certainly not any that detract from the game). ALttP is certainly up there in the "perfectly formed" category too.
@Ernest_The_Crab - there are shots where she doesn't have her helmet on (and slightly less "bulky" armour in general), so I guess that's the substitute.
Anyway, I really like the G&G games, so anything in that style is good news to me.
It's pretty stupid how the ratings board feels it needs to point out aspects of the female anatomy, but not the fact that Link is topless when he goes swimming. The female chest is not inherently more sexual than the male. What makes it sexual is the interpretation of the individual (which is no one's business).
It genuinely does look like they took the criticism of Skyward Sword constructively. However good the story is in Breath of the Wild, and whether it has that "magical" feel or not; gameplay-wise, it looks exactly what many of us have been asking for.
@World - Personally, I find swearing impolite. It's just that if you wanted to write a comedy script, it'd be very restrictive to not have access to the mild and medium words.
Can you put swearing in it? Not that I use a lot of swear words, but it'd be annoying if you couldn't write the script you wanted. I know from playing things like Dragon Quest Monsters on the DS, there were an awful lot of (ridiculously tame) words you couldn't use.
Although this is not exactly my cup of tea, and I can somewhat see the problems some people have with the idea, I find it sad that something like this causes more outrage than the sheer violence in Western games. It's almost like people in general are shocked by what they're told to be shocked by, rather than how strong or bad something actually is.
Personally, I'd rather see strong female characters rocking a bikini as a legitimate part of a wider game (eg. an RPG), but if that happens, it gets censored too. We can't win.
It's amazing how many little things Nintendo has dropped, like Miiverse, free internet and a web browser, and yet the core aspects of Switch seem very good. Breath of the Wild looks like what I want from a Zelda game, and likewise for Super Mario Odyssey. As soon as I know a Metroid is on the way, it'll be pretty much perfect.
I am surprised at how much worse the lower screenshot is, actually. The arches comprise of six straight lines - nowhere near the smooth curve of the PS4 version. It makes Switch looks far more like a "3DS upgrade" rather than the powerful console it seems at other times.
I'm very against streaming and cloud gaming. If there is a facility where it allows gaming in higher fidelity than is otherwise possible at the time, fine, but it should never become required. I'm just sick of how almost everything in the modern world needs passwords, accounts and internet connections. By far the best way for music, games and films is to buy something physical from a shop, take it home and put it in your console/player.
If the presentation was 10pm UK time, I'd be excited. 4am though is ridiculous and I'm not going to bother with it in any way. Still looking forward to finding out about it afterwards though.
It's good - better than I expected - but I'm waiting to see what it feels like as a whole. Certainly could see myself giving this a 9/10, but I'll see. So far, I prefer it to the 1st game, but not the 2nd or 3rd.
One thing I'm slightly concerned about - is there going to be DLC, and is it going to be free or paid? I'd actually feel quite cheated if I had to pay for the other playable characters on top of the £15.99.
@Spoony_Tech - Well, I don't know about it from the computing side, but I definitely think graphics need to get a lot better, if only for VR. I'd say we need at least 8K screens (and the processing to support it) for that.
I'm really struggling to understand how it could be "good news" that the outfits have been toned down, or that it was something to "worry" about in the first place. They seem like such strange words to use about the subject. How female characters in skimpy outfits can be considered something negative is something that will always baffle me.
I'd like to be able to play games I bought on Wii without going into a "Wii Mode". For example, I bought the Golden Axe arcade game on Wii VC. It has traditional controls (Wii remote turned sideways), and yet it wasn't playable on Wii U without going into Wii Mode. If they can fix that, and bring more VC Arcade titles to the table, that'd be great.
@PlywoodStick - Ha, yes, I see what you mean. Just to clarify what I meant, the other day @FinnTheWhovian said "The game was given a PEGI rating a few weeks back, so it should be here soon.", followed by (when asked if it was 12+)... "Yes, for violence." Sorry to bring you into it, Finn, I just wanted to reference the situation. So what I'm saying is that if it only has the "Violence" rating, the ESRB T or PEGI 12 might only be for that.
Regarding the animation, I agree there is a cheeky amount of jiggling/wiggling. Now that I have seen them in detail, I must say you are almost certainly right. Personally, I regret that they have made the character more childlike, as I would prefer her to have the full adult va-va-voom!
Wasn't there a story the other day about Half-Genie Hero having a PEGI 12 rating for "Violence", or am I imagining it? Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse both have a PEGI 12 for "Violence" and "Sex" (even though there's not really, but we know what they mean).
I know this is an ESRB T, but my point is it might actually be for the violence alone. If they have been brave enough to put the sexiness back in, I'd actually be impressed.
I must say, although I've had my reservations about the art style, I do like the way they've drawn Risky Boots on the Risky Beats cover. Shantae also looks suitably tall on the CD, rather than the "Chibi" style.
I don't think they made the wrong decision in going for Twilight Princess (apart from the fact it would have been quicker to re-use the WW assets). For me, the real shame is that the chance for Wind Waker 2 was "wasted" in the form of Phantom Hourglass - a decent game, but not one that in any way lives up to the potential of a Wind Waker sequel.
Personally, I still think they should continue the Wind Waker series. Until then, Breath of the Wild looks like a brilliant way to fill the gap.
My list (keeping in mind I haven't watched all the footage)... 1) The Mirror Shield 2) A mountain course to snowboard down 3) Darknuts, and to be able to pick up their swords 4) Lots of secret areas to glide to 5) Moblins like the Wind Waker ones
I've never really understood this idea that console games should be long and complex, whilst handheld games should be short and simple. For me, a handheld is just as good for a quick go of Tetris as it is for a long RPG. The best solution is to make each individual game as involved as it needs to be, and just have good save point options.
I always wanted a Neo Geo, and would probably have bought one if I had been a grown adult at the time.
I'm pretty sure that new, downloadable games for the eShop with Neo geo-quality pixel art would be popular nowadays. There are lots of 2D games, but they all tend to use the hand drawn style, which is not quite as satisfying.
I don't think there's much chance (if any) of this game being outright bad. That said, what I've seen doesn't really grab me as much as the 2nd and 3rd games. I think the most likely outcome is that it'll be very good, but will have lost a few things that made the last two so charming.
Dragon Quest VII is nice, although not quite as good as I was hoping. Bravely Default amused for a while, but I really can't agree with the costume changes (same for any game). For me, the best 3DS RPG - by a mile - is Etrian Odyssey IV. Just a near-perfect game, and I'm looking forward to V.
I like much about the Wii U - the eShop, Off-TV play and some of the retail games - but I don't really love any of it. The GamePad screen was actually very good, with no noticeable lag; so that was nice, but I'd rather just have a powerful handheld.
The Wii U's biggest legacy is probably Miiverse - that's actually a great idea. For me the biggest disappointment is that there were no games I can honestly call a classic. Wind Waker HD was fantastic, but of course that was basically a GameCube game. New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 3D Land were both good, but neither was something that'll be hard to better. If Breath of the Wild had been released sooner (and been a Wii U exclusive) it'd have been a very different matter.
Overall, it's a fairly nice console. I don't really feel all that ripped off, but neither is it something I'm overly fond of. It's simply time to move on.
Whilst I like the Wii U more than the Wii, to me it got off to a bad start and never made up for that. Even thinking back to the early E3s, the software shown off was so unexciting at a time when they really should have been trying to wow us. There seems to have never been a Metroid game in development for it, and Zelda took so long, it will never be released as the pure Wii U game it was once intended as.
The Wii U was a fairly nice console, but there's no way I could say Nintendo tried their hardest with it.
