Hamster is launching Alpha Mission II on the Switch eShop this week as part of its ACA Neo Geo range, it has been revealed.
Known as ASO II: The Last Guardian in Japan, this 1991 vertically-scrolling shooter was one of the earliest titles for SNK's console, and served as a sequel to the 1985 arcade original.
It boasts upgradable weapons and seven levels, each with a boss at the end. It's a pretty typical blaster but should make a neat addition to the Switch eShop. Will you be downloading it this week? Let us know with a comment.

I'm still trying to decide if I will play Metal Slug enough to justify buying it.
Yeah - this would fit a gap nicely. Vertical mode would be cool. Play with pro controller
As well as being popular, these NeoGeo games sure do keep on popping up on the eShop. Its just unfortunate I don't like any of them or at least the ones appearing on the eShop so far.
And another one rolls off the NEO GEO conveyor belt.
So many NeoGeo games!
Nope not for me. It feels like neo geo and cheap indies is all i could get until splatoon.
Never played this but it looks right up my street.Definite buy from me.
Love my shm'ups and even more so on the go.
So yes it's a buy!
Now I only hope the likes of the Saturn and Dreamcast makes its way over to VC. They had a tonne of amazing shm'ups.
I will definitely be picking this one up! I hope many more do as well so we can see many more SHMUPS on the Switch!
Neo geo games were ace bring loads more and other systems too... But we need a VC a cube games!!! And more Switch exclusive indies!
Looks like it could be pretty cool.
Like the music
Do these Virtual Console Neo Geo games have save states on the Switch?
Great game for the switch. 300 pounds retro machine
Wow a Neo Geo game that is not Metal Slug or a fighting game??!! Truly amaze!!
Edit: and it looks good!! Ok this goes to my wish list.
if it wasn't for NEO Geo releases the eshop would be really empty!
Better than not having them! I guess we should be praising whoever is bringing these over. Do love a good vertical scrolling shooter.
I haven't played one of these since Xenon 2, maybe I'll bite
If this keeps up, I'd like to see some folder options. I feel a lot of these should have been on Wii U (aside from Wii Shop Channel) so I hope this is a sign of good things to come. I complained about many games just not showing up on the old shop. I truly hope Konami is adjusting their TG-16 library for the Switch at the moment, and Nintendo is getting their stuff in gear. Just need a sort of cross buy... haha. This is the PERFECT time to make money on the Switch. Hamster Corp must be making a decent profit with themselves being the ONLY company at the moment delivering a retro arcade experience on the successful console launch.
I'd really like to see stuff like the Seiken Densetsu and Mega Man Legacy collections come to Switch on cartridge, instead of piles of Virtual Console released bit by bit... but as long as we get awesome games to play in tabletop mode, I won't complain.
@Sleexus
You can create interruption save data.
@Shellcore "I guess we should be praising whoever is bringing these over."
It's HAMSTER Corporation.
One of my favorite shooter on the NES, glad that they brought the NeoGeo sequel to home finally.
I love the music. Will be purchasing this.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Luckily, it's a conveyor belt of awesomeness! When they're done releasing Neo Geo games, Hamster should sell their conveyor belt to Nintendo so that we can finally have a weekly VC lineup rolling on the eShop shelves.
For $7, it's hard to pass up.
Really love this one. Hopefully it's the gateway for Hamster to release "Last Resort", "Pulstar" and "Blazing Star".
I didn't pay much attention to Neo Geo on Wii, as they were the compromised regional versions of the time. However, I can't resist these genuine MVS (coin-op) releases.
definitely a genre that's missing from the switch and what a nice choice! will be for sure getting this.
I was hoping Blazing Star would come earlier, but AM2 certainly is a good alternative ! First NeoGeo title on my system !
I enjoy this one. I would definitely pick it up.
Haven't played this one. The music is very 80's-early 90's synth. I might get this, and Samurai Shodown IV next week. Wow, I'm gonna have to budget a $35 eShop card every month at this rate, LOL!
One a week, HAMSTER, keep it up!
Sweet! Just bought it from the Japanese eShop.
I'm a real sucker for scrolling space shmups, and while this isn't quite on the level of R-Type it looks quite nice. I'll take it!
Just going to warn you guys who haven't played it that it's hard as balls and the power up system requires some serious research to understand. I love old school shmups and I wanted to like this one but for me it's not very fun to play.
This is definitely a good game, I remember it well and appreciated it on Neo-Geo.
Unfortunately I don't like the genre anymore so I will skip it.
The Neo-Geo games I want to buy aren't still on the Nintendo Switch.
Great game, good addition to the Neo Geo roster on the Switch. Used to play it to bits way back when.
@Sleexus Yes
Does this allow the new vertical mode?
