With Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past being a treat this year on 3DS, fans of the series are no doubt looking forward to Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which is due in North America and Europe on 17th January.
A number of the new features in this remake are well known, but nevertheless it's worth checking out a recent trailer uploaded by Nintendo; it highlights key additions and also features that music.
Earlier this week Nintendo also released a couple of character profile videos, for Morrie and Red.
Are you planning to pick this up in the New Year?

Restoring HP and MP with a level up is a godsend, especially when you're deep into dungeons or just grinding.
Cannot wait! Had this preordered since the confirmation back in 2015.
I can't wait c: My favorite game ever, and I'm looking forward to the new content.
Glad to see it's nothing like the travesty that is the iOS port....
Thank god for the return of voice acting!
This version def warrants a purchase if you're a fan.
hell yeah
Never played any of the Dragon Quest games. This might be my first in the series for me.
Morrie looks fun! the battle animations all look fantastic in this. wish the girls' outfits weren't so revealing. but if we can change appearance by changing armor like in the original maybe I can adjust that myself.
Already more interested in this than in DQ7.
@speedracer216
In the ps2 original Jessica's armor only changes when you have complete sets (bunny costume, bunny ears, cotton tail) but don't let the revealing outfits fool you she's a force to be reckoned with! But note most of her attacks are based on her sensuality (love beam, puff puff)
And this, dear users, will be my first Dragon Quest game!
Some nice touch ups but I'm still on and off wearing away at my PS2 copy. So I might pass and just stick to it.
As soon as I get time to play and beat VII...which I got in October.
I plan on getting this around its release date. DQ VII is great and I've heard good things about this one.
This is looking great, another must have for the 3ds! And yet I still need to play VI, let alone VII. ^^
Definitely jumping on this. 40 hours deep into 7 so I am gonna force myself to finish it before playing this one. Not that it's a bad game I love 7 but 8 is so charming it will be hard to resist starting it up. I doubt I'll finish 7 before it releases my gaming has been on the back burner due to busy holiday season.
I am so happy this game is coming to 3DS. It's a dream come true having IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX (and soon XI) all playable on the 3DS. DQX also but that's JP exclusive.
Day one, day one, day FREAKING one!

Actually, the racy costumes the female characters wear have been scaled back in the 3DS version. For example, instead of little bikini bottoms, they are now redesigned as shorts.
@Hey-Cha-La that's good news! it was my only real drawback to the PS2 game (that and Trode's voice but oh well haha).
Seems a losing battle but i miss the old games where for pixels or whatever reason you just didn't have to worry about racy costumes much.
@Hey-Cha-La @speedracer216
Ugh I'm getting fed up with the totally unnecessary censorship lately. It takes away from Jess as a character.
The stupid censorship of the costumes annoys me but it's definitely not a dealbreaker. Will definitely pick this up at some point.
Also.. Swing Both Ways? Oh myyy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@JaxonH No more a JP exclusive Few time ago DQX go to some others countries of Asia like China or Hong Kong.
Now there are rumors that the version 4 can be in westerns regions with Switch, PC or PS4 pro. I think if 3DS new DQs and Switch sells very well in USA and Europe Square couldn't resist the temptation ;D
I would like a Switch version, of course xDD
Akira Toriyama. That is all.
I'm really struggling to understand how it could be "good news" that the outfits have been toned down, or that it was something to "worry" about in the first place. They seem like such strange words to use about the subject. How female characters in skimpy outfits can be considered something negative is something that will always baffle me.
Well, I don't want to start a big debate on censorship here, but I think it's fair to say that different folks are offended by different things. Some fans (men and women) don't like women being objectified by the male gaze. I'm no expert on the topic though, but I understand why some people can do without. Speaking for myself anyway, whether sexy outfits are included is not the primary reason or selling point to play DQ or Xenoblade. For a game like Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball, it may very well be.
