Re: New Lawsuits Claim FIFA Is Built On "Illusionary And Addictive" Pay-To-Win Mechanics

MegaMari0

Can we all agree that loot boxes, Mtx, wouldn't be a problem if these companies hadn't gotten the idea of artificially creating a problem and selling the solution back to us? Pay to win mechanics and the like rely on the developers creating an advantage for one player over the other. Cosmetics used to be unlockable via certain actions/achievements. Now it's to nickel and dime you into submission. The whole logic of "player choice" is a fallacy in the industry now.
So in regards to addiction, how would you know if you were one unless you tried it and didn't realize it until it affected your life? A car accident victim who shattered their leg and had to take pain killers to ease the pain didn't know he was an addict until well after the leg healed and he was still taking them. If he was never in the accident we would have been just fine without the meds. Same with a gamer if the game dev never decided to implement those loot boxes and such. I will agree their is some personal responsibility in getting help. However what should have been a light hearted entertaining hobby has morphed into something more sinister nowadays. It's a lot to take in when you think about it.

Re: Former Nintendo Of America President Reggie Says The Future Of Games Is In The Cloud

MegaMari0

For cloud gaming to truly take off, data caps need to be removed by ISPs, server farms need to be established all around the country (at least in US) to minimize input latency, owner ship rights and processes clearly defined and are consumer friendly. Lastly, infrastructure needs to be in place to get this experience to homes in rural places not just the urban/suburban/metropolitan areas. So I give it another 30 years at least for the states.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield

MegaMari0

@GetShulked it makes sense. The game didn't go into full production until late 2017. That means between that time and it's release November 15th they didn't even have 2 years of full development. Anthem, a technically more demanding game on more powerful hardware was rushed at 18 months of dev time and launch was dismal to say the least. You can't launch a game that quickly without taking shortcuts and maybe even pushing your employees hard...

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield

MegaMari0

@Pirlo_ze_sniper not at all. It's a good idea to diversify, seeing as how their golden goose is Pokemon and it would be nice to be known for something more than simply Pokemon. However, just like Nintendo had a warchest to weather any financial storms, I'm sure game freak has one now with a chunk of the 2 billion they received from PGO up until now. Heck, Niantic made 60ish million this year. While I didn't see any figures for gamefreak, with that kind of cash more of it could have easily been dedicated to development efforts. I feel they were being a little too fiscally conservative with this effort. Again,I'm enjoying the game, they can develop other IPs, but if you have the financial resources for the biggest media franchise in history, why not try making it the best it can be?

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Verdict On Pokémon Sword And Shield

MegaMari0

Saw video, agreed with it. I find it hard to believe that with the revenue stream that is Pokemon go, they couldn't afford to hire another 100 devs than their current 200 ish employees. They said 1000 people were involved at one point or another. If half of those were devs the game wouldn't have received the cuts that it did. More if it could have been polished, optimized, etc. Maybe even more Pokemon could have been included. That is not the case with a large majority of that 1k being other groups like marketing, PR, and so on. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game but I can't help but feel they it's a missed opportunity to really make Pokemon franchise shine on a very capable system. They phoned it in after the let's go series.

Re: Port Specialist Virtuos Convinced Obsidian To Bring The Outer Worlds To Switch

MegaMari0

@farcry007 you seem to have a grudge for Outer worlds. Most publications have high praises for the game. You seem to be part of the minority. I dunno. Maybe everyone's level of expertise in game development sucks so bad that obsidians entry looks good. Whatever the case may be, I'd rather play OW, vs the smoldering dumpster fire remains of what was Fallout 76.

Re: Poll: Have Your Joy-Con Been Drifting?

MegaMari0

Splatoon 2, BotW, and MK8D, murdered all 3 sets. Specifically the left one for single player and the right ones for multiplayer. Hands down the worst flaw of the switch are those joyco. Sticks. They clearly werent tested thoroughly and if they were, I bet some internal documents would say they shipped them anyway with the flaws.

Re: US Law Firm Opens "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Investigation

MegaMari0

@Chibi_Manny actually no. I've had to take apart my Wii u gamepad a few times to replace the joysticks because after 3 years they finally started wearing out and were filthy. 3 years. The build quality and size of components are night and day between joycons and the Wii u gamepad. I've gone through 3 sets. All it took was 6 months of continuous use before the drifting started. I no longer own my launch day joy cons. I now have to use the pro controller for any serious gaming.

Re: Niantic Files Lawsuit Against Pokémon GO "Hackers" Helping Players To Cheat

MegaMari0

If I could, I would spoof my location to get the region exclusives only. I am not spending money to travel to other countries just to get a pokemon here or there. I understand that they occasionally have events where region specific pokemon change regions for a few days/week a but that all depends on whether or not you happen to be playing at the time and/or paying attention to PGO news. Everything about cheating can burn though 👍

Re: Pokémon's Junichi Masuda Explains The Decision To Limit Sword And Shield's Pokédex

MegaMari0

@graysoncharles its possible, Nintendo had HD issues during the Wii U era. Good management would have the foresight to seek assistance/guidance, even Nintendo devs to help in those 3 years. Not saying they didn't but they knew of Nintendos struggles to bring their games into the HD era while developing for the Wii u. It's quite possible the let's go games were their Guinea pigs.

Re: Pokémon's Junichi Masuda Explains The Decision To Limit Sword And Shield's Pokédex

MegaMari0

@Yorumi yes, not all of us are are programmers but unless you know their complete workload, personnel setup, business processes, deadlines, and other business related obligations, NONE of us can claim to know their justification is BS. You as a programmer are one small piece of the pie. This generation could very well be the teething stage of their switch development. Maybe future generations will better optimized and potentially expanded upon from a technical standpoint. WE DONT KNOW. So while we appreciate your insight, let's not call them liars, or lazy or whatever. 😎

Re: Mortal Kombat Studio NetherRealm Accused Of Taking Advantage Of Contracted Workers

MegaMari0

@Agent721 you know it's only been like this for the last 40 years in general. Greed has out right replaced respect for the employee, dignity, common sense. Why do you assume its whining? Isn't it simply bringing it to our attention? Whining is complaining in a petulant way. Petulant being childishly sulky and bad tempered. Are you telling us to simply accept it and move on to next equally terrible employer? You may have done fine in that kind of environment and that's pretty neat dude, but high finance isn't programming.

Re: Mortal Kombat Studio NetherRealm Accused Of Taking Advantage Of Contracted Workers

MegaMari0

@Yorumi look, there's always 2 sides to the story. The reason most people dont report this stuff, is the industry can blackball you easily. Nobody wants to hire somebody who essentially "tattles" on you to the gov't or some other authority. They easily see you as a "problem child". Its that fear of never being hired again that scares everyone. You want to work in industry you studied for, that you're passionate about. To have years go down the drain over a complaint you filed is devastating to say the least. So you'd be naive to think the industry doesn't try to steer the culture in that direction. Now that it's set and with social media everywhere, you can find it out these things, but so can corporations and hr managers and recruiters. Sure they could find programming work outside the industry but the whole point you got into programming was to make games. It's your passion your career. To me that's like trying to get into law enforcement and having to settle for mall security. It's not the same so you keep your head down until it's done and complain anonymously because you've signed NDAs which carry over even after you've left.
