Bring back the quirky art, silly voice effects, beyond-crazy music, and bonkers story line of the original GBA titles then yes I would buy one at that price. The last release on 3DS felt like the game was filtered through a boardroom of old non-gamers wearing suits and came out the other side devoid of anything special. Sometimes you learn your lessons, Nintendo. But sometimes you don't.
I didn't renew my subscription back over a year ago since I didn't feel like paying Nintendo a monthly fee to play video games. Ownership means something to me.
The 3DS was, arguably, the last Nintendo product where Nintendo felt "playful". Menu and eShop music. Fun sounds. Cute system features (ever move data between two 3DS's?). As a Nintendo fan I yearn for Nintendo to return to being playful again. The Switch is amazing but has lost all the charms of being a Nintendo product.
These games are also now unavailable on the US 3DS eShop. Dragon's Lair Dragon's Lair 2 Space Ace Rayman Bomberman Blitz Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again Mighty Flip Champs
SMG is probably my all-time favorite 3D Mario game, and by association my favorite Wii title. It's music and atmosphere always calls me back. It's also the only 3D Mario game I've 100%'d.
Funny we're all mentioning Mass Effect....I've been replaying the series (I've never gotten beyond the 2nd game) on my old Star Wars SE Xbox 360. It's horribly optimized but still a good time. I love the soothing music that plays when you activate the Galaxy Map on the ship.
I agree about there being some eShop tunes to listen to as I browse. Get the person responsible for the Wii VC theme and early 3DS eShop tunes. Skip the later 3DS and Wii U styles though. They have zero charm in my opinion.
As a consumer I find it important to regain a fair for both parties amount of control over my purchases. Cloud gaming is unappealing to me for that reason plus it removes the technological fascination I have with gaming. The Neo Geo would never have been so appealing to me had it been a relatively empty box with an ethernet cable on one end and a controller port on the other. It's the hardware under the hood that caused me to want one.
The music kinda sounds more like Syd Mead's Terraforming than Thunder Force. The art style isn't my thing either. For me at least shaded sprites will always look better in games of this type.
So you're setting out bait for me to start preferring digital over physical huh? True ownership of what I buy means more to me than double Gold Points.
If you look you'll probably see a "gap" between console users and mobile users. Things might not end up so well if you try to smash these two groups into one unnaturally.
If their plan is to continue developing the NSO service than please, Nintendo, release a first-party Left Joycon with a proper D-pad (of course, sans the issues with the Pro controller's D-pad) for on-the-go gaming. With the system's classic game releases from first and third-parties booming relying on the Left Joycon in its current state is uncomfortable and imprecise. Even playing RPGs like Crystalis the controls are terrible with either the buttons of the analog stick.
I'm not too concerned with MP4s release window. As long as Nintendo takes a close look at what made Retro Studios' releases so successful with its fans.
I agree with @impurekind as well. Nintendo hardly did anything with the Wii Mini and though the Wii was the most popular system of the mid noughts they were the first to shut down their online services. Nobody talks about the 360's Live Arcade, or the PS3 version of PSN, but the VC still gets people misty-eyed, especially with many of the classic games released are available in 240p if so desired.
I'm not sure "finders keepers" would apply to this situation. There's usually a waiting period I'd imagine before a lost item can be fully claimed by the finder. Plus that's still technically R&D from Nintendo.
This is good news as I prefer the Vs. version over the NES version. What irks me though is the price structure. $8 is too much for these older games, especially when $8 can get you any Neo-Geo game in comparison. I think anything pre-16-Bit should be $4-$5.
I think Mega Man's constant vocalizations are a more upsetting issue. Remember Super Mario Advance where the vocals during gameplay were a serious annoyance? I'm getting the same vibe in the MM11 demo.
It seems that the official Sega blog has removed the fantastic M2 3D Remasters project interviews that had been translated into English. Please bring them back, Sega!
Instabuy if it gets localized. I'm confused on the FM synth music player though. Will FM only be available in the player or will there be an option to play the game in the Master System's FM synth option?
Good list. I disagree though on two points. For millions of gamers it's definitely not difficult to return to the 2D Metroids after playing Prime. That should've been written as an opinion rather than stating fact. The last point is I thought you were a little too harsh on Other: M. Sure it's story was a mess, and the Bottle Ship felt derivative, but the combat and platforming was awesome IMO.
Well they ripped off Sony by making bootleg controllers and in the process ruined any chance of anyone buying a real PS3 controller brand new or used. Why not rip off games as well? Granted none of this is new. But it's really becoming a problem in the West and Japan.
Cheap knockoffs have killed the PS3 controller market. It irks me to no end especially since none of the big companies has called these criminals out. I say criminals because their controllers for other systems carry the console maker's branding. Makes my blood boil.
I'd buy one just for platformers and shmups in handheld mode, then switch out an official Joycon for every other situation. I'm still hoping Nintendo will answer the call with an official D-pad Joycon of their own. Games like Curse of the Moon and Gunbird are not fun to play with Nintendo's current Joycon.
I'm not buying into this, Capcom. No way. Too many ways for you to abuse our wallets. If I buy a game I want to own it for a duration of time that I see fit. Period.
ATTENTION VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY-CLOUD STREAMING VIDEO GAMES IS THE WORSE IDEA YOU COULD EVER CONSIDER.
I'm a bit concerned. Retro Studios have a reputation for a stratospheric attention to detail in their games. Just walk around and marvel the world they made in Prime 1 on GameCube! That is one game that has held up extremely well from that time period and it was all down to Retro's talents. Other M looked nice but didn't take enough inspiration from Retro. I don't want to see the same thing happen with Prime 4.
I'm not too worried. Switch games still look excellent in 1080p. We didn't complain about Super Mario Galaxy's SD graphics ten years ago and I don't hear anyone complaining about Odyssey's today.
I do miss the dungeons, and I felt that the shrines could've used more variety in their theme. Every shrine looked the same on the inside. I also miss caves. BotW could've really benefited from some spelunking.
Galaxy is my personal favorite 3D Mario game. It took me totally by surprise even though I lived through the N64 era and saw the advances made by Mario 64.
I'd love to see an HD remaster of Galaxy, Nintendo.
One nit-pick that I need to take up with the devs of this fantastic series is an option to adjust the screen size while in docked mode. On my TV the HUD is more than partially obscured, along with the all-important mini-map. If your reading this, Image and Form, please oh please patch this awesome game.
If eBay teamed up with Nintendo and Amazon to come up with a way to swat these flies permanently I think it would be money well spent for the future of our industry. This subject would make for a good Think Tank project as well.
The Switch is exactly as its namesake states; it's able to switch between TV and portable mode. What I see here is an unwillingness, by most companies, to sell the Switch on equal footing. When companies start selling its abilities as 50/50 instead of 70/30 I believe they will put a lot more of their customers at ease.
No more piano-only soundtracks please, SE. Game music started falling on its face when it began to emulate film soundtracks (though some games do benefit from that practice). I want something to hit me again like Secret of Mana's tunes did all those years ago.
