Update: The game's Switch home screen icon also uses tonatello's artwork:
Original story: 1988 was a very long time ago. In fact, it's last century old. As such, it is fair play if your memories of a game act up and you remember things slightly differently from the cold, harsh reality. For instance, the above image is not from the original Data East classic, but a re-imagination of the game with more detailed sprites made by tonatello.
However if you currently take a quick browse at the official Nintendo page for the game, one might think we are getting some sort of HD remake of the game when the game releases next week on the eShop. Sadly this is not a case, it is just a case of Google image search gone wrong. But the more we look at it, the more we wish it was the real deal...
Bad Dudes vs. DragonNinja (the proper one) lands on Switch next week on both American and European eShops this March 22. Are you a bad enough dude to pick it up?

Oh no. Thassnobueno
No thank you.
Are you a bad enough dude to make that remake a reality?
I've looked out my shell suit, sweat bands, Reebok Pumps and Now That's What I Call Music cassette. I've even fast forwarded it to Eye of the Tiger in preparation for the big day. Just hope it doesn't get chewed.
Somebody screwed the pooch on that one. Lol Probably a new intern or something.
reminds me of how everyone kept using a fan made sonic forces logo
There was a sequel planned and one of the BAD DUDES had aged in a manner not dissimilar to some of us ☺️ Think there are images of the panned project floating about?
The original image was kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue it?
The ones on the right actually look like Choi and Eiji from KOF95.
@Lroy The only "sequel" I care about it this:
@Shiryu Of Course. The abandoned, direct sequel to BAD DUDES, was being mooted in the early 2000s I believe?
That’s pretty shoddy. They should be using original assets where possible!
I also noticed the icon image for the game uses art from one of the computer versions. If you look closely, you can see the "imagine" logo.
@Shiryu there was a failed Kickstarter for bad dudes 2. One guy was bald and fat; it was gonna age the characters. No idea why they didn't simply make it and include this original now. Sad they stole fan art. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pinstripegames/bad-dudes-2
Still picking this up next week because... I’M BAD!!!
@Shiryu is that a sequel to Two Crude Dudes?
RANDOM
remember when nintendoLife insisted on called the pokemon trainer "Red" nenderoid "Ash"?
@khaosklub I remember that!! It took me 3 whole days to stop ranting in that thread and to my IRL friends about how blatantly wrong NL was. I remember starting out thinking it was just an accidental mistake. But then I got super annoyed that the article writer refused to correct it even after multiple people corrected him.
I had to stop because I was annoying my wife with my frequency of complaints about it.
@Magrane 2 Crude Dudes was called Crude Buster in Japan. I had it for the Megadrive and didn't like it at the time, quickly returned it after a few shots. Watching that video I now regret that decision.
I don't know what to think.
There's too much going on there.
@MrVariant Yeah, that's the one.
@Magrane Same game, different name dependenting if you're playing in Japan or US.
@MrVariant I wish this was real.

Huh, they stole the fan art? I suppose it's all fine when Nintendo profits from others' work.

I would lose my mind if "Two Crude Dudes" comes next!
Serious gaffe.
@Shiryu
i agree
Hahaha! I find it hilarious when people that know nothing about image processing and has no respect for the original work, are left alone handling tasks like making the icon from that source material. You simply do not alter a work's aspect ratio, and compress the geometry along the horizontal axis, like what was done here. Never. Ever.
Tonatello has no rights here. If a fan drew a good picture of Mario and Nintendo used it in one of their own Mario games without crediting, acknowledging or paying the artist, it's fair game because Mario is a Nintendo character. The character doesn't belong to the original artist.
Those fan art sprites are also based off SNK sprites. It just gets better.
@Shiryu Well, looks like they fixed it...and the release got pushed back to March 29th.
@masterLEON Still no live update on the game, I check everyday.
They've also fixed the price, it was $9.99 before
