Re: Ash Ketchum's Voice Actor Shares Final Emotional Moments Of Last Recording

Mariotag

This is great.
Tbh, I still haven't seen the dub past the first season of Black and White.
For me, Veronica Taylor is the big voice of Ash, but Sarah also had her own unique take.
I can't help but miss those older days watching new episodes as they came out, and everything was hype.

I'd personally like to see both voices come back someday.
I dunno if Ash will ever return, but it'd be neat to see both VAs make comebacks in the anime.

Re: The Pokémon Anime Pilot First Aired In North America 25 Years Ago Today

Mariotag

Wow. Twenty Five years.
I actually missed out on the original airings of most of season 1, as I was against most things that were new at the time.
But looking back, I remember it fondly. The various bold stunts the writers managed to get away with really worked out. The original trio of protagonists, and trio of antagonists were iconic.
The fact they even had a probably deranged gym leader who put anyone who lost to her through a penalty game was just one example.
These days though, they axed the OG voices for people who kinda... sounded a bit cringe in a few cases. Ash's new voice took getting used to.
The OG soundtrack was also axed. Going with something far more generic. They chose to go from free TV to paid networks.
Finally, they just stopped taking risks with the writing, and most episodes just came down to finds random Pokemon or human in need, tries to help, Team Rocket shows up to interfere, and somehow provides an effective answer.
Team Rocket were genuinely the most enduring, best part of the show as far as I've seen.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

Wait, this addition is DRM?
Isn't DRM like, you don't own this game, in spite of you bought it?
Like, if the "service" shuts down, you lose access to ALL of your games?
I never actually knew much, but those were my impressions.

As for pirating games, once upon a time, I was on this site and saw a fangame for download. Really enjoyed it. Right next to it was what I thought was another fangame. Got that.
Next to those two were Super Mario RPG, and Super Metroid.
Thinking they were also fangames, I downloaded them as well, only to deeply regret it when I found out they were official games I was supposed to buy.

Re: Bandai Namco Has Multiple "Major Titles" Planned For The Remainder Of 2023

Mariotag

@Mgalens
Absolutely yes! I started with Symphonia. I still have the OG gamecube version, as well as the ps3 version.
I've played a fair few of the games since then. Didn't end up liking the Xillia saga as much, or Zestiria/Berseria. I felt that Xillia fell a little short of my expectations, and had too much grinding for what I wanted to accomplish. Zestiria felt too unserious. And short. Berseria was better than Zestiria, and I did the story, but, to do the extra content, I'd have to grind for ages. Arise was superb though. Reminded me of Symphonia in theme, ironically enough.

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?

Mariotag

Honestly, those "failed" systems deserved better. N64 had some of the best games I'd play for a long time. Gamecube, uhh, started a couple franchises and had Melee? Wii U basically was given the immense disrespect of having a lot of its comfort and utility features being completely scrubbed from switch, in some cases, I imagine Nintendo had to go out of their way to do it. Like, not even streaming services reached switch till much later, not to mention a LOT of the big early hitters were effectively Wii U titles. Like, let's disrespect a system simply because we don't like it. Poor Virtual Boy didn't even get a chance to be fully developed iirc.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time For A Zelda 1 Remake, Please

Mariotag

I would argue that BotW is a sort of re-imagining of Zelda 1 in spirit.
It's a different story, but the design of being able to find something just about anywhere, as well as free roaming exploration, is as true to the roots as it has gotten thus far. Now we just need an underworld to go with that overworld, and we're set.

Re: Video: Is 3DS StreetPass Dead?

Mariotag

So wait, does this mean streetpass doesn't activate anymore?
I'd been getting them with my younger bro up until the eshop closed. I never saw a reason for them to turn that off.
Having said that, I haven't gotten them from others in ages.

Btw, I don't really watch the videos in articles anymore unless it's a direct or something. :/ Just ocd habit.
