When you hear the words 'irreverent rapid fire microgames played in quick succession', you hopefully think of WarioWare because we're not sure there's much else that fits that description. These games have always taken advantage of the hardware available to the consoles they're on, from the Wii Remote to the DSi camera, and yet in the age of the Switch and the Joy-Con with all its whizzbang features and fancy gadgetry, we have yet to be graced with a Switch-compatible title.
There's so much to unpack that our very own Jon Cartwright simply had to put Tetris 99 down for just a moment and ponder what could be done with the series on Switch. From the IR camera to HD Rumble, there's so much potential it's bordering on criminal. Give the video above a watch to see what he has to say with his mouth sounds.
What would you like to see in a WarioWare game on Switch? Let us now with some words in the comment depository.

I believe it's a rule that every FANTASTIC Warioware title must be released during a console's dying days to ensure that it is ignored. Thus, we should get one in a couple years for the Switch when people have already started moving on to the next thing.
I hope this isn't the case, and that we do get a new one for switch, but I feel like Warioware gold could be the last game in the series. Mainly because it gives off vibes like how Super Mystery dungeon gave off, or Rhythm Heaven Megamix.
I'm sure it will happen eventually, let's hope it's more WarioWare and less Game & Wario...
Game & Wario was just .. NOT good..
And WarioWare Gold, I played right after Rhythm Heaven/Paradise Gold.. Rhythm Gold was AWESOME, and absolutely chock full of life. Playing WarioWare Gold right after it, with it's "hey, here's a menu." method of doing things.. MAN, it was a let down. It was SUCH a let down.
I want a good WarioWare, or none at all. And as much as I love the WarioWare mentality, but also the way they've been going, I think I'd rather take none at all, at this point.
WarioWare feels like it belongs more on mobile than the Switch, but they don't make mobile games anymore so IDK.
@VoidofLight In a 2018 interview, the director of the series specifically said they'd be open to a make a new game if Gold was well-received (which it was).
@Jayenkai I loved WarioWare Gold. I thought it was one of the best in the series taking aspects from every WarioWare game plus new ideas and putting it into one massive collection!
So why hasn't it happened yet?
All the development companies in the world couldn't keep up making/porting all the games that fans think would be 'perfect' for the Switch.
Game and wario would be perfect for smartphones
WarioWare Gold was an excellent compilation game, a ton of people missed out on it. Even though only around 50 of the microgames were brand-new, the amount of changes that were made to preexisting microgames (new themes, control schemes, et cetera) still made the game worthwhile if you'd played every other WarioWare. I really hope the Switch gets a new entry, especially if it can combine Gold's great single player with the multiplayer elements of Mega Party Game$
Idk man, ask nintendo
I still want a 16-bit sequel to NES Remix. It’s not quite WarioWare but it is a collection of micro-games.
The words 'traditional' and 'Warioware' do not belong in the same sentence lol.
Yeah, Warioware needs to come to Switch in someway.
I wish Nintendo would release this and some mini game compilations like Street Pass and also do more minor games like Pocket Jocket, Steele Diver, Rusty’s Baseball etc.
You could apply the title of this article to any of several Nintendo IPs. Take Advance Wars, for instance; its portable heritage makes the leap to Switch logical, and combined with the local multiplayer and customization opportunities that a docked console iteration would offer, it could be a huge boon for the turn-based strategy genre. Or F-Zero, for reasons often previously mentioned here and elsewhere.
The frustrating thing about so many beloved franchises that "make sense" to bring back is that there are simply too many tried, true, and (historically) more profitable ones in front of them which publishers are more apt to return to. All we can do is wait for (hopefully) an eventual opportunity, and when it comes, make sure we vote with our wallets to support it. That's the only language that corporations really listen to or appreciate.
Great video, @JonComms! WarioWare 99 (or 35) is an excellent idea!
The Wii version was a great party game where 12 players could play passing around a controller.
1-2 Switch had a few decent mini-games, but I am glad they didn’t put Wario in the title.
@Glowsquid Ah, that's good then! I really hope they make another one soon, since WarioWare is one of my favorite series.
Honestly, we need Wario Land games instead. The series is so underrated and has been quiet for too long...
I agree. Thanks Jon
Nintendo will deprive us of this treat because it is anti-consumer.
WarioWare shares the same producers and developers with 2D Metroid and Rhythm Heaven, which are franchises that will likely receive priority over it.
I haven’t thought about this series in awhile, but watching your video really gets the cogs a-churnin’. I totally agree with full committing to the Joy-Con - the new play styles could blow a new game into the stratosphere. We’ll see what happens, but I’m certainly looking forward to it now!
sniff We were blessed with no less than FIVE WarioWare games from 2003-2007 (albeit the GameCube outing was a GBA port). We later got D.I.Y. which was a great concept (and I spent a lot of time on it), but then... nothing...
Game & Wario was bursting with great ideas (and some not so great), but the good stuff far outshined the bad, and many of the souvenirs were more fun than the game proper, though Sketch and Camera were the best activities in the package, and it still amazes me that there was never a Pictionary game on Wii U as the platform was absolutely PERFECT for it.
I STILL bemoan the lack of a MotionPlus WarioWare game on either Wii or Wii U (ideally both!) and the lack of a WarioWare game in stereoscopic 3D (just imagine the possibilities!). Gold was a HUGE letdown as us diehard fans have been waiting a whole DECADE for fresh content, and all we got was a "greatest hits" compilation with only a paltry number of new activities. I still enjoyed and played the crap out of it, but WarioWare deserved so much better. It's like Nintendo have been deliberately sabotaging the brand with these stupid decisions (WarioWare Gold was released over a year in to the lifespan of the Switch!).
I'm a little surprised that Gold wasn't released on Switch due to the lack of 3D (and perhaps with a pack-in Joy-Con with a microphone could have covered activities that require such input).
Hell, I'd be happy as if they would just port Smooth Moves to the Switch. The only downside would be the lack of speakers in the Joy-Con, though they can compensate for that somewhat via HD rumble (which has been used to create sound effects in some games including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party).
As much as I do NOT want an online-only WarioWare game, WarioWare 99 would be just the thing to make me want to pony up those 30 smackers a year for the hot trash that is NSO. I said the same of the DSi in reference to WarioWare: Snapped (and later D.I.Y.), but Snapped turned out to be a poor tech demo, and D.I.Y. made no use of the DSi's capabilities whatsoever (the camera could have been put to such good use), so I ultimately decided against "upgrading" at the time.
Yeah warioware, advance wars, wave race, f-zero, golden sun, the list goes on... time Nintendo gave some love to their old IP.
Imo they seem to be taking less and less risks with software as time goes on...
Sadly I think Nintendo has really painted themselves into a corner with the Switch Lite. I’d be surprised if we saw many more Joy-Con only games, if any. If they can avoid alienating the Switch Lite userbase, they definitely will.
It would be a great idea (also, Wario Land), but Nintendo isn't releasing many first-party games at all these days (and many of them are ports).
Nintendo has a history of neglecting some of its best franchises.
WarioWare Smooth Moves was the one game I showed to anyone and everyone and they all had a hilarious fun time with it.
I love warioware. I really hope a new one is in the works.
@flummerfelt Yeah, that series deserves much more attention. It's gotten to the point where Wario represents basically only "Ware" in the Super Smash Bros. series due to the lack of "Land" games.
P.S. Wario Land >>> WarioWare
@Jayenkai Oh hey stranger; just to let you know, I really enjoyed your games on the OUYA, and I remember AGameADay and particularly the one about the retro demakes based on just the titles. They're kinda a blur in my memory bc it's been that long since I booted up the OUYA, but when I find it I'll surely fire it up again and have a play
@Muddy_4_Ever Wario Ware Smooth Moves and Touched both released on the first year of the platform they released on. Those two were one of the best of the series. The only good wario ware that released during the end were Gold and Twisted as far as I know. The first was released in the 3rd year of the gba, so more of a half way point.
@TheDavyStar Awesome!! Hiya!!
If you grab SmileBASIC for Switch (Available in the eShop) my legacy continues, as I've made a TON of games for that, too!! Check out AGameAWeek for more info. (he says, trying not to look too much like a spambot!)
I hope Yacht Club Games makes a similar concept game and calls it “ShovelWare”
I’ll take SNES remix instead.
I’ve honestly been asking this since the beginning. How it hasn’t had an outing on switch yet just blows my mind. Even a port or collection of previous games. Playing them on the TV would be so great.
The truth is so many of Nintendo's IPs have potential on the Switch, but they are too busy playing it safe with ports and maybe the odd new title in their bigger franchises.
Wario deserves both Warioware and Wario Land. Heck, I would love for a new Wario Land in a similar style to 3.
Yes please. I love warioware. It's so funny. I want it
"Why hasn't it happened yet?"...cause it's Nintendo and they march to their own beat regardless of what fans say.
Because Nintendo has forgotten about nearly all of its 2000s franchises, and only care about their top-tier ones. I wouldn't be surprised if we never get another WarioWare or Rhythm Heaven game again with the way the company is heading.
@Jayenkai I got the free version; it's cool to see that you're making games without much worry for if they get big or not. Gives me a bit of a reality check as a graduating art student, I take it all a bit too seriously.
@TheDavyStar Aim big! I never bothered to aim..
So much this. Warioware and Rhythm Heaven can benefit SO much being on Switch!
Warioware and Rythm Heaven are my dream games for switch.
It Happened! NEW 'ware!
Wow, you guys were only a few months off!
