Back in 2013 our world was rocked when Sonic Lost World added a free Yoshi's Island Zone DLC; admittedly it was pretty easy to blow our socks off in that particular gaming era. And though SEGA betrayed Wii U owners by eventually bringing Sonic Lost World to PC, we always had Nintendo-exclusive DLC to cling onto, especially that weirdly good Legend of Zelda tie-in.
Sadly PC modders cannot be kept down forever (hat-tip KayFiOS), and a modder with a cheery tag of 'ĐeäTh' has recreated the Yoshi bonus level in the PC version, throwing in multiplayer as a little bonus. It looks like quite an impressive effort.
In any case we still have a soft-spot for Wii U, and let's not forget there's no Nintendo Land port on Switch because that wouldn't work; that GamePad was pretty neat once in a blue moon.
It's interesting to see this video and think back on Sonic Lost World, though. It was a solid 3D entry in the series but certainly unremarkable, to the point that it's probably only got a very small following now. Still, those free Nintendo-themed DLC add-ons sure were neat.

Seeing the Blue Wii U Header on a Nintendo Life article takes me all the way back to 2015.
Lost World is probably my favourite 3D Sonic game - that's partially because it throws out the book and tries to be its own thing rather than trying to replicate the magic of 2D Sonic without fleshing out the utmost important element of a Sonic game (momentum physics) like a certain 1998 release. I'm also quite partial to Colours and the 3D sections of Generations.
@TheDavyStar The nostalgia is real
Erm, yes it is. That's like saying Nintendo Land is no longer Wii U exclusive because you can play it on an emulator. Not an official release!
“Sadly...” I don’t get what is sad about it but oh well.
Well, it’s now officially time to sell the ol’ Wii U.
I don't care what anyone says the WiiU was a wonderful little machine, warts and all!
That headline made my head spin. I'm not sure modding really counts as meaning this DLC is no longer exclusive to Wii U?
Official looking trailers like this are what get Nintendo riled up.
They might even go after GameBanana as a whole if presented like this.
Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water, I have the Limited Edition. That one is another Wii U exclusive and I love it.
People have been running and modding BotW on PC for years, but it's still exclusive to Wii U/Switch. Lost World's DLC is the same.
It's a ridiculous headline, but I clicked anyway. You got me
@Clyde_Radcliffe It's all about the clickz. The issue of the Wii U's legacy always gets people talking, so if you can work that into an article most people wouldn't otherwise be interested in...
I thought sonic lost world was wicked. It wore it's influence on its sleeve though and while it never hit the heights of its forebears Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Galaxy, it was still a decent game and worth playing!
I take it as a humorous article, because if this was actually a "tough blow" (which I understand it isn't, because sadly no one is buying the Wii U nowadays for Sonic Lost World, let alone the exclusive DLC) it would be better not to talk about it at all, wouldn't it?
Anyway, the DLC remains exclusive to Wii U version of this game, as what modders do hardly is official.

I’m just here to say
I love Wii you nintendolife
A sad day for Wii u gamers everywhere.
I loved Sonic Lost World. I had it on Wii U and still have it on 3DS. It’s no Sonic Mania, but it was pretty fun at the time.
@kupocake YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Guys, I jokingly submitted this saying that the Yoshi DLC was no longer Wii U exclusive, and that this was "one less reason to own a Wii U." Of course it's not official, but anyone who doesn't own a Wii U but has the Steam release of Sonic Lost World can now enjoy the Yoshi's Island DLC. This actually does make it tempting to pick up Sonic Lost World next time it's on sale for me (even if the creator of this mod said he has no plans yet to bring over the The Legend of Zelda Zone).
Underrated game. And even better on PC with the Improvement Mod.
I got this on Steam because no Wii U, and I remember liking the first level, after that it was a pretty bland experience.
But it all came down to Sonic handling like a tank, and being a 2D stages galore.
I don't blame anyone for liking this game but it is a far cry from what made the Sonic Adventure-era games so satisfying to control.
It is unfortunate the Nintendo partnership happened during the Wii U's time. Fans got it really rough on Wii U: OK Olympic games, Lost World, Sonic Boom, racing spinoff, Sonic Advance trilogy only for Japan.
To be fair Switch is not much better. I guess Forces is better than Boom? Mediocrity over just plain bad?
I 100% Lost World on Wii U, and there were some things left I guess I could have done. It would have involved lots of grinding, if I can remember what it was. I loved the Sega Saturn level, and had the Zelda and Yoshi level too. I hated not being able to go back and rewatch cutscenes, or not have more than one file. Its now annoying to start up on Wii U because it keeps trying to use the Miiverse feature. It was a good game. Should come to Switch for $20 with a few improvements.
@BrintaPap People like their console exclusives to stay exclusive.
By the logic of this article, console exclusives are non existent because modded and pirates can get just about anything running on PC. Once computers get strong enough, you'll see ps4 and xb1 emulators become common.
"let's not forget there's no Nintendo Land port on Switch"
Thank god 😆
Everyone keeps forgetting about the ole' Third of the Devil's. That Devil's got three of something and he won't stop until he's found the fourth.
