Re: Video: Let This Xenoblade Chronicles X Battle Trailer Get Your Blood Pumping

LasermasterA

To the people who question why some people want Dual Audio, it is because the Japanese voice acting industry is huge and very competitive, leading to their audio being generally of very high quality compared to English dubs which are often lacklustre in comparison. Also many prefer to consume media in its original language.

Although considering how they changed up all the names, they would need a second set of subtitles for the Japanese dub, if it was there. Xenoblade Chronicles was dual audio but not this -_-

This game is going to amazing, and hopefully it gets the sales it deserves. Unfortunately, I would have to agree that Nintendo should definitely have been putting their marketing muscle behind it. Sadly, the game will sell a fraction of what it could have with better advertising. It has awesome aspects of both JRPGs (story, characters, gameplay) and western RPGs (customizable main character, huge open world, etc.). Just look at it! Plus it has one of the biggest world map, with the map size 400km2! That is more than Witcher 3, Skyrim and Fallout 3 (I think) combined (although there is lots of water in this).

Still buying it day 1. My whole winter vacation, dedicated to Xeno X.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Wii U)

LasermasterA

@DarthNocturnal

Haha yea, Fulminous Edge got mistranslated to Formina Sage. The meaning itself was completely lost. Dullahan is probably the only hard thing in DD as well (maybe Chaos Chimera a bit), considering he still has Charon, Djinn Storm and 3 turns a move. Although he is more predictable this time round with a fixed rotating move pattern.

Unless Golden Sun 4 has been in development, before Mario Tennis Ultra Smash was rushed out the door to slightly pad out the holidays, I doubt it would come out in the next 1 -2 years. If that's so, I really think that it should be an opening title for the 3DS successor or NX if it truly is a unified handheld/console system.

Obviously with the 3 games either as a bundle or console release to introduce the game to others so that Camelot doesn't try to make it too beginner friendly, and intro type story. We need more answers, not more questions and needless expositions!

Re: Review: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Wii U)

LasermasterA

@AlexSora89
Not too late in the 3DS' lifetime hopefully, considering a part that played in the more lukewarm response (units sold, critically it still scored pretty nicely) of Dark Dawn, was how late it launched in the system's lifetime.

Golden Sun 1 was amazing but it also had the advantage of being an early title on the GBA, making it quite noticeable among the rest of the games.

Getting a bundle collection of the first 3 games for a more budget price ($20 - 25) would also help so that they don't have to make the 4th game as beginner friendly again. We could use less hand-holding and a higher difficulty (the only boss which bothered me at all was Dullahan).

Re: Review: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Wii U)

LasermasterA

@DarthNocturnal
Well it did help that Camelot had also made Golden Sun 1 and 2 earlier on the GBA which probably contributed to the RPG mode being as robust as it was with GS like special effects (a lot of the Power Shots), similar map, exploration (sans psynergy) and sprites, etc.

The minigames were quite fun in my opinion but they could be a slog if you weren't that great at 'em and wanted to get max power shots. They gave around 150 points on the hardest difficulty (the tier 2 ones) with the high score ones giving variable depending on your personal best (upto 300 at once). The max offensive power shot was definitely a bummer though, being a glorified lob shot.

Hopefully the next gen gives us an RPG Mario Tennis preceded by a Golden Sun 4.

@Luna_110
Camelot's recent offerings have been a bit underwhelming (maybe except Mario Golf 3DS), but Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was a great game. Just not as great as 1 and 2.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash (Wii U)

LasermasterA

And the rating is what was quite expected looking at the general reaction to the latest Mario Tennis game from Camelot.

It definitely looks pretty, and does follow the basic Mario Tennis formula, but is completely bare bones with regards to extra stuff, and missing essential features. Although props to Camelot for rushing it out in what looks like a very short development cycle, just in time for end of the year.

@Einherjar
I haven't played the Mario Tennis game on Gameboy, but I have played Mario Tennis: Power Tour, and I must agree the RPG mode was amazing with its own campaign, 10 minigames and tons of power shots (with some of them nodding towards Golden Sun). It did have heavy influence from Golden Sun though, using the same engine for the RPG segment with very similar interface and a lot of special effects resembling Camelot's own RPG series. Mario Tennis Open abandoned the handheld tradition of having a campaign, and it would be great if they could go back to it.

Camelot can do a lot more than this. I would love for a much needed Golden Sun sequel to come and a Mario Tennis with the RPG segment back. They used to make such fine RPGs and even their latest offering GS: Dark Dawn was quite good, just not as impactful as the originals.

This is probably their lowest rated Mario Tennis game so far, compared to the awesome GBA game and Gamecube Mario Power Tennis.

Re: Gallery: There's Loads Of Awesome Linkle Fan Art Available Already

LasermasterA

@Olmectron
Thanks for pointing that out. Still that's my favourite piece among these ones.

Yes the original concept art that showed her as dropped character had her use a double-handed crossbow. She also didn't have that compass pendant. She still didn't have a sword though, so I liked that touch, considering even if she is not "female Link" but his younger sister (or sister like figure), her having a sword for close combat makes sense.

Also dual wielding is cool and all but how does dual-wielded crossbow work - i.e. reloading? -_-

Re: Feature: A History of the Mario Tennis Franchise

LasermasterA

Mario Tennis: Power Tour has been by far, my favourite Mario Tennis title. I do admit I haven't played many Mario Tennis titles, but the awesome Mario Tennis RPG campaign (built using Golden Sun's engine ) was excellent, the minigames were quite good, although tedious to grind for the best power shots and there was a HUGE variety of power shots (loved the Dragon shot)!

We could customize the build of our custom characters, go through a charming campaign (maybe a little repetitive) at the Tennis Academy featured in the game. There were also tennis "lessons", "tests" (it was an academy after all) and a climb through the ranks to win the Island Open tournament and later challenging Mario + crew.

Plus there were also the regular Exhibition matches and what not with most of the characters featured in a regular Mario Tennis game. It might not have been as robust in Multiplayer, but the Single player game was awesome!

I really hope Camelot tries something like that again. It was really quite an amazing experience, especially when I played it (nostalgia filter: on)!

Re: Final Fantasy's Cloud Is Set To Cause Some Strife In Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS

LasermasterA

@retro_player_22

Cloud still seemed unlikely (more like, people didn't even think of his chances) to many since he has only been seen in spin-offs in a minor role (all the ones you listed). Plus, like you said, as FF7 was planned on N64, but shifted to PS1, there was some "strife" between Square Enix and Nintendo, making his chances even less. Guess it bodes well for Nintendo and SE's future relations, since he got in. I might as well use him as I did like FF7, and to an extent its compilation.

Well with the special Smash broadcast coming up, we might as well see multiple characters from your list. I doubt many more 3rd party additions though considering the high bar Nintendo is setting for 3rd party characters.

Multiple first party characters who did good on the ballot seem likely. Hopefully Isaac is among them. May the (Golden) Sun shine on his chances!

@AlexSora89
Yea hoping for the favourable result, i.e. Isaac being playable as DLC, with the best result being him getting a stage like Venus Lighthouse and a Felix/Matthew alt costume.

Isaac for Smash (DLC)!

Re: Editorial: Linkle May be a Clunky Introduction For a 'Female Link', But Opens Up Interesting Possibilities

LasermasterA

I don't really mind this much, especially if she turns out to be Link's sister in a future Zelda game. He already had one in Wind Waker, now she will also be a heroine. Choose either Link or his sister, to go on a legendary quest! She becomes a character of her own, rather than just a female Link.

For the people who mind the name, it is meant to be a pun which didn't translate in English. Her name in Japanese is Rinkuru, with "kuru kuru" meaning spinning/twirling. Kuru also means to come, which can translate her name to "The Link to come". NoA just lazily converted it to English though, hence the name.

Re: Gallery: There's Loads Of Awesome Linkle Fan Art Available Already

LasermasterA

This discussion is going in a weird direction -_-

Well it is not like Female Link fanart did not exist, just that it has now become official with Linkle, with a new costume and dual crossbow setup.

And for the people who mind the name, it is meant to be a pun which didn't translate in English. Her name in Japanese is Rinkuru, with "kuru kuru" meaning spinning/twirling. Still, loving the small collection of fanart here. I really like the sword being at her waist in the art by Polarityplus, while wielding a two-handed crossbow. The 4th last one.

Re: You Can't Alter The Chest Size Of Female Characters In The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X

LasermasterA

@uguuer
To be honest, that sort of censoring worries me a lot more. Modifying the religious imagery and what it was actually supposed to refer to bothers me a lot more than this censorship, no offense to the people who do mind it.

Changing the meaning itself of the organizations, as well as the iconography, does not hurt the plot but it definitely hurts the experience in my humble opinion. As you said Beyond the Logos Artificial Destiny Emancipator (B.L.A.D.E) is completely different in its implication from Builders of the Legacy After the Destruction of Earth, as well as Testament to Reclaimers. It is completely different from the creators' vision and what they originally intended to imply, obviously on a minor scale, since it doesn't change the story or anything.

Not to say that I do not mind this censorship. It does hurt the experience for some as I believe in playing the original game as it was meant to be played, but I won't get worked up over it, considering the other localization changes are a lot more significant than omitting a feature of an already sparse character creation tool.

And this is one of the longest comment sections I have seen on NL, congratulations everyone!

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final to Feature Predecessor's Cast and Use Its Save Data

LasermasterA

Guess this explains more about the 2 ending paths, that SMTIV universe will have. One is the obvious ending path that Flynn achieves in the first SMTIV game, and the second one is what you achieve with this second character along with the help of Flynn (and Isabeau), if the polytheistic alliance interrupted the ending of the original.

Although removing Flynn from action will sorta sit weird with me considering SMT protagonists reach uber levels by the end of the game. But then, for the plot! To be honest, instead of them messing around with SMTIV, I would have preferred a brand new SMTV with this kinda story. This one does create a different style of story than the other SMT games I guess.

I still have to achieve the other endings of SMTIV. Going through all of the dungeons is taking more time (and dedication) then I thought. Time to get working I guess, to get those bonuses in the inter-sequel (confusing -_-).

Re: Review: Stella Glow (3DS)

LasermasterA

Oh wow! I was actually looking forward to the demo and was going to base my purchase on that but guess a positive review helps as well. The review sort of reminds of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance which I absolutely loved.

Still going to try the demo though, just downloaded it today, coincidentally. Sadly it is the last game by the company but atleast they made a worthy swan song.

Re: Final Fantasy's Cloud Is Set To Cause Some Strife In Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS

LasermasterA

@AlexSora89
Well nice to see you too again, fellow Isaac supporter. I do really want Isaac (all my votes went to him) to get in Smash, but I don't mind other characters as long as they don't impede his inclusion. I don't see Cloud as a competitor for Isaac since he has an almost complete sword based move set with a few Limit Breaks, whereas Isaac has potential for a huge Venus psynergy based moveset.

Sure they have blond spiky hair and a sword, along with RPG origins, but that is where their similarity ends. Plus, Cloud seems like a pre-ballot character, probably a good sign of some deal between Square Enix and Nintendo. And it would definitely be downright hilarious if cross-dressing Cloud gets a costume (which I really doubt) but the AC Cloud and FF7 Cloud seem sufficient enough.

I have decent hopes for the Smash broadcast in December since Isaac still seems like a fairly popular ballot entry, is Nintendo exclusive and has huge potential for a non-sword based psynergy moveset. If need be, they can just replace Isaac's sword with an axe or a mace. Hence he can be Smash's only Axeman or Maceman

I will probably still enjoy Cloud when I get Smash this year. He looks somewhat like Ike in terms of usage, albeit having more ranged moves.

Re: Final Fantasy's Cloud Is Set To Cause Some Strife In Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS

LasermasterA

Cloud sure came outta nowhere. Sure he has "history" with Nintendo but that history amounts to small appearances in Kingdom Hearts spinoffs on Nintendo portables and the other Final Fantasy spinoffs (on the portables again). His game FF7 was PS1 and PC exclusive, and the rest of the games of his compilation were also home at Playstation. Before anyone wonders, I have played all of his games (except Before Crisis) i.e. FF7, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus and also watched the AC movie so I am a fan.

Quite odd that Square Enix denied his inclusion in Playstation All-Stars but here is in Smash. Guess it bodes well for Square Enix games on Nintendo NX.

Although I was disappointed in Isaac (an awesome Nintendo RPG character) getting the shaft... again. With his psynergy and complete Nintendo origins, he would not be just "another" sword character, but we get Cloud (who I like but still). Hopefully the Smash broadcast has better news for the rest of the fans who voted for characters like K. Rool, Isaac, etc.

I still haven't seen anything good come out for Nintendo after including Ryu in Smash.

Congratulations to the people who wanted Cloud in Smash. Guess I might use him when I get Smash.

Re: Video: Savour the Intensity of This Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final Music

LasermasterA

Love the fact that this game is coming out, and SMT music is always awesome especially near the end.

Although I didn't completely like the fact that this game continues from a different ending from any of the original game's ending, hence negating the endgame events of SMTIV. But I understand the reasons behind it. Hopefully Flynn has somewhat of a larger role than a cameo.

I still have to get the original neutral ending though, looking forward to it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th October (North America)

LasermasterA

It is not in this list (it was on last week's list) but I am extremely tempted to buy another copy of Devil Survivor: Overclocked. My sister has a copy and I have played the game on it (after playing the original DeSu) and since it is only $9.99 I feel like buying it again.

Yes I like it that much. Plus I am on a SMT high after finishing SMT IV (one route so far).

Otherwise, I might just pick up Etrian Mystery Dungeon when it goes on discount next week.

Re: Nielsen Game Rank Lists the Most Anticipated Games of the Holiday Season

LasermasterA

What's up with people ignoring some of my favourite franchises -_-?

First half of the people ignore Isaac as a top contender for Smash ballot and now Xeno X is not regarded as an anticipated game enough. Admittedly it is not a title with mainstream appeal but it must be one of the biggest games Nintendo is launching on the Wii U! It has got to be one of the most hypeworthy JRPGs this generation. Sadly Nintendo isn't advertising it enough as such.

I am really looking forward it to myself regardless of this game list.

Re: Feature: Have You Played... ZombiU?

LasermasterA

@pikminfan22
Well to be fair, the demo was really creepy BECAUSE, I don't know why, Ubisoft in their extreme smartness decided to have the scariest area of the game as the demo segment. I remember being scared a lot as well during the demo and that did deter me from buying the game for a few months.

After I did buy the game, I did discover that the area (i.e. the nursery) is the worse (as in fear factor) area in the game (near the endgame as well) and not really a demo type area.

You should give it a try, a good engaging (and pretty tense) game. And I like the clunkiness as it adds to the feel that you are just a random survivor with no previous expertise in combat (unless you are a cop character which is when it makes less sense) and the person is pretty nervous/scared (hence clumsy) as s/he tries to survive.

The tenseness (horror newbie here) did make me hyper though as I couldn't sleep easily those days (not out of fear but brain gone in overdrive). Guess playing it after midnight didn't help either

Re: Feature: Have You Played... ZombiU?

LasermasterA

Yes I indeed tried it out despite not really playing horror games much and the game was much better than I expected.

The game had clunky controls, a grainy camera and some glitches but it was fun nonetheless. The gamepad integration really added to the experience being our very own Prepper pad with map, radar, scanner, and comms all at once. The radio stuff through the gamepad speakers added to the charm.

I do regret carrying a plank though, most useless item in the game, a game where inventory management is a must.

The atmostphere and everything in my opinion was great especially a setting in UK considering most fictional apocalypses start in America/Japan

A must buy for $10, the price I got the game for. I might dabble in Fatal Frame as well, hopefully I don't chicken out xD

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem Characters Join Project X Zone 2 Cast

LasermasterA

Awesome! Now this makes me want to buy the game even more. Hopefully they fix the faults of the first game in this, making it less repetitive and more engaging, and it would be a must buy for me!

If more Nintendo characters do somehow make it in, I would love for a Golden Sun pair to be included. Isaac/Garet (the earth/fire bros.) or Isaac/Felix (the earth bros. in law) or even Isaac/Jenna (the rocking fiery couple) would definitely lend well to the style and gameplay of the franchise. Since a lot of the franchises in the game are niche, I don't see why a fairly popular Nintendo RPG can't be represented IF Nintendo does let them add more of their characters.

Still interested in the game though.

Re: Rumour: Fresh Sources Suggest Shovel Knight Is Indeed Digging His Way To Super Smash Bros.

LasermasterA

IF this is true, I would be happy for his fans, but I think that other Nintendo characters with a greater legacy should have been revealed earlier for Ballot DLC.

I am still taking this with a grain of salt though, considering that Shovel Knight is a one-game wonder and an Indie at that which is also NOT exclusive to Nintendo.

Other Nintendo characters would be much higher on my list like Isaac, K. Rool, Dixie Kong, Wonder Red, and many more. Having an indie character along with the 3rd party legends, Ryu, Megaman, Sonic and Pac-Man would somewhat cheapen the deal in my opinion.

I agree with the Isaac avatar dude above.

Re: Pokémon Brawler Pokkén Tournament Coming To Wii U Early Next Year

LasermasterA

@DarkKirby

Although that does sound amazing, I would just prefer that Gallade makes it into the game as a Wii U addon character/update/DLC.

And it is excellent news that the Wii U is getting another game which quite a few people had pegged down to the NX. Plus it is a Pokemon spin-off, and it has a chance to sell quite a bit

Pokemon duking it out like never before!

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th August (North America)

LasermasterA

Golden Sun!!!!

By the way, advice to the people who have bought the first game on Wii U VC. You can transfer your files using password system but it is absolutely necessary if you want 100% completion in TLA. The toughest superboss in the game along with his bonus dungeon can only be accessed if you transfer your save with the psynergy item Force (to get one Djinn in TLA) and preferably all Djinn (although you can get away with 6 of each type).

Gold password transfers all items, money, djinn, character stats and some event triggers for TLA.

Re: Video: These Monster Hunter X Trailers Are for Lance Fans

LasermasterA

Wow this seems awesome! I love Lances and would totally try out these moves. Although the usage of a Gunlance still confuses me from time to time regarding balance of poking and shooting.

This MH game might be a spinoff but it definitely will be amazing. I already have an awesome time trying all weapons and now 12 weapons x 4 styles 0.0

Re: Zombi Reveal Trailer Suggests That Wii U Gamers Need Not Be Too Jealous

LasermasterA

The game wasn't "Oh that game is amazing" without the gamepad. It was the atmosphere of tension along with the gamepad controls that made it great. Removing that doesn't leave much.

Having more melee weapons is great but IF they buff up the weapons where you get one-hit kills everywhere and ammo lying in every corner, the game will lose most of its tense charm.

Plus hardly improved graphics and a straight shoddy port is unlikely to make this game seem as different as it was on the Wii U.

Re: E-litre 3K Scope And Neo Splash-O-Matic Headed To Splatoon Tomorrow

LasermasterA

Since I love the E-Liter as it is (I don't even use the custom version), I would probably just buy the weapon for collection's sake. Although I would definitely try it out as the scope does help out in aiming but makes it so much easier to get killed. The specials are the only thing that will make it a keeper for me.

@yokokazuo
If it is the same as the original, then normal E-Liter for me And the range does not change with Scope only the zoom does. Splat Charger and Splatterscope are basically the same, with the scope being the only difference.

Re: Ubisoft's Former Wii U Exclusive ZombiU Confirmed For PS4 & Xbox One Release

LasermasterA

I just recently bought the game and the game is good, definitely deserved better reviews, and I don't even usually play survival horror games. I wanted to get through with only 1-2 survivors in my first playthrough (silly me), but hordes always get me -_-

The game was not initially made for Wii U but Ubisot did pretty much modify it nicely to the 2nd screen experience on Wii U. Gamepad integration is pretty vital to the atmosphere as well as functions, so taking that away might very well take away its uniqueness. I would have loved gyro aiming though in the Wii U version, so much better, especially since I am coming out of Splatoon mode.

Re: Two More New Weapons Coming To Splatoon Tomorrow

LasermasterA

I absolutely love Splatoon and would love to try these weapons out. But I need to fix my latency issues before I do. Although I was never really a roller person. Might try out the Dual Squelcher though.

Hopefully these things finally bump me up to A+.

Re: Fresh Details Emerge For Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

LasermasterA

Well I won't be one of the people who are dismissing this game, looks really interesting. It might not be like a SMT game or a FE game (as people were expecting) but it definitely looks like Atlus knows what is doing. Replacing demons with FE characters as Mirages sounds cool but I will miss some demons.

Still looking forward to this game. I love SMT, its spinoffs and FE. It is slowly becoming a must-buy for me.

Re: First Impressions: Our Maiden Flight In Star Fox Zero Prompts Mixed Emotions

LasermasterA

@marnelljm

Well actually the gyro controls in Splatoon are amazing. They offer a lot more accuracy than twin sticks alone once you get used to them (an hour or so).

Looking at this hopefully they fix up any control problems the game might have and beef up the graphics cause having 5 year old graphics is not good, even when graphics don't matter much. If the gyro controls end up like Splatoon, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

The less number of enemies on the screen did actually worry me more. If they kept the graphics low for greater optimization, I should atleast have tons of action on the screen!

Re: Two More Splatoon Weapons Are About to Arrive

LasermasterA

Oooh another E-Litre!!! Love that gun! The E-Litre 3K is my main gun but the special attack is not really offensive (echolocator) and burst bombs are not that great against good shooters.

Although I haven't played Splatoon since 2 days since my connection has started to lag... Might get a wired connection.

Other charger peeps beware (Largest range Charger) As well as shooters and rollers! (especially if you try to sneak up on me)

Re: Street Fighter Legend Ryu And Fire Emblem's Roy Found In Super Smash Bros. Patch Code

LasermasterA

Please not let Roy be the same as he was in Melee. We don't need yet another Marth clone.... now we have 3 Marths, one Robin and one Ike.

Oh well, atleast we now know for sure (although it was pretty obvious from the start) that Roy and Ryu are going to come in Smash 4 probably going to be revealed this E3. So guess two surprises spoiled already, this as well as Hyrule Warriors on 3DS.

Hopefully the Smash ballot will still have more characters rather than just 1 or 2

Re: PlatinumGames to Unveil a New Title at E3

LasermasterA

After finishing Wonderful 101 just yesterday, I must say that Platinum Games has definitely become one of my favourite action games developer. I loved Metal Gear Rising and I loved this one even more! W101 was full of madness, amazing action as well as epicness to the max! Plus it had some decent second screen experiences as well, definitely an overlooked gem on the Wii U. It definitely deserved better reviews, too tough for the reviewers to handle I guess

I hope that this game is on the Wii U or 3DS. Hopefully Wii U since they could make it much more action on that than on the 3DS. Wouldn't mind either though, always up for more Platinum action. Now just to pick up Bayo 1 and 2 ASAP!

Re: Splatoon Ranked Battle Mode and First Free DLC Go Live Today

LasermasterA

@Yorumi
Yea it is really easy to build up turf points with a roller and a rapid fire shooter. Charger on the other hands are mostly for support, even if you do try to cover tons of turf, it is hard to accumulate that much turf with a weapon that is more oriented towards splatting other inklings than covering turf.

It is a godsend in ranked battles which started today. A good charger can make or break the battles as a good charger inkling can defend an area solo, or make defending mush easier for tothers.. Ranked battles are where they shine, well they do for me personally. I remember being their being occasions when I am the only charger in the team and the match going all topsy turvy from us winning to a loss when I lost my foothold.

They are not that good if you want to level up in regular though. Use a roller or a gun for that.
