I thought it looked good, they're taking it in a cool direction for a crossover coming from something as dark as Shin Megami. I can't wait to play it.
Wish they would actually just show some regular gameplay, want to know more about this game.
@Spoony You should probably play it before saying they ruined it. ;^)
I'll chime in my support for this one. It looks pretty fun filled and exciting!
Only thing I don't like is the jpop theme. Everything else is nice. Especially the...uh... female character design, yeah.
What game was that. No darkness from SMT and somehow an Idol infused FE. Still, if this is a collaboration from the creative minds of Atlus and Ninty, I'm getting this one.
Still looks great ^^
@Spoony Agreed. I wanted a Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei.
Instead, I get something Persona with SMT gameplay. No thanks, if you really wanted this, you could've just ported Persona 5 over, Atlus.
Remember that comment I made earlier about Atlus winning E3? Nullified.
So they are summoning Fire Emblem characters instead of the opposite.
I didn't want Persona: FE Edition but looks like that is what I will get... Hope this doesn't disappoint me cause I am not so excited so far. Even though I absolutely love SMT and FE.
Looks like more JPRG teen drama BS. I guess I have to have an anime avatar to "get" the game.
I am the same with feelings regarding this game being way too Persona. I knew something was wrong when the trailer said this was a story about youth. Any game that mentions its main characters and the word youth tend to be friendship or other crap plot focused story lines.
This game does not look like either of it's source material. While it may be a good game, so far it is a huge letdown for people who would buy it for the title.
It's just more based on Persona which is an amazing series btw. This game also will probably be rated M so you can expect some "SMT Darkness" plenty. The Persona games have that so yeah.
However I do think the female characters are a bit too sexualized perhaps.
I'm reasonably excited for this. I just wish they had shown more gameplay footage. I think it would have made a huge difference.
After watching the video, I have no idea what this is. Not a clue. All I got from the video is something about boobies. Was it crazy to expect something that vaguely resembled one or the other of these two game series?
I'd imagine combining two top tier JRPG series would result in something more than just girls in bikinis dancing to obnoxious j-pop.
I'm still going to get it, mind you, cus I absolutely love both SMT & FE, but a lot of my excitement has gone down the dumps after seeing it looking more like Persona dance spinoff than either of the series it's supposed to represent. At least it's still going to be a JRPG... Right?
@Dizzard I agree, I like the concept but I'd love to see some gameplay (specially from the battles) to help me decide. It looks nice, but they haven't said anything about what you're supposed to do here.
Does anyone else have absolutley no clue what's going on in these trailers for this game? I was really excited but these trailers are making me lose interest. Looks very lame
Welp, still loving the music and art style of this game. I kind of wished they showed and explained some of the gameplay, but it was nice to see it again a new trailer.
The two words I will use to describe this are absolute garbage.
Absolute Greatness. At first I was wondering what the hell I was looking at but it looks awesome after watching the trailer again. It doesn't seem to be ruined because of/for the western audience at all.
I'm digging the ... Plot physics. GotY screen cap this! Nah really I hope game play some how saves this train wreck. If they show the ladies in bikinis, why not the guys in some beach attire? Make it even a bit haha
I'm a huge fan of the art style, but I need to see how it plays to be fully convinced.
I'm hoping this is the big summer release next year.
Oh, boy, I don't even need to look at the comments to know this is gonna be a divisive game tonally. I still want it, but even I'm kinda shocked by the direction they went. Not that I don't like what I see, of course.
How did you guys not see this coming from previous trailers? Even I could tell that the undertones of the Persona branch was showing its roots and I'm not an avid fan of the all encompassing SMT series in general.
This will be a complete flop here in the west, due to the fact that I just don´t see Fire Emblem here, it´s just kawaii, j-pop, boobs, then kawaii again, then j-pop, then boobs and then the end. I don´t understand who they´re trying to appeal with this trailer. My prediction is that while FE Fates will dominate in both east and west, just like awakening did before, only the hardcore fans will get this, which means they´re gonna sell less than half of the units they hope.
@uhhhhhhhh The problem is that they don´t even know who they´re aiming this at. Not the fire emblem fans nor the smt fans, they´re just winging it aimlessly trying to show off the game to see who´s interested. I am truly disappointed by this, as I was expecting something epic and revolutionary, but nope, this is strictly for j-pop, otaku, ramune-drinking and kawaii fans.
The fact that this doesn't have a name yet is baffling. How does Nintendo and Atlus hope to build hype by referring to it with the very hard-to-pronounce Japanese name? The name is even written in Kanji at the end of the trailer.
Oh well, a JRPG is a JRPG. Myself, I'll be geting it day one.
The game does seem to lack any kind of FE qualities that I was hoping for. But I'll judge the game when I play it myself.
Looks gorgeous but cheesy.Though I am happy the Wii U is getting RPG title.
I'm just gonna be thankful for FE:FATES .
I think the game looks really good. It doesn't really look like either franchise but some kind of interesting new beast.
I still have absolutely NO clue what this game is going to be like.
Uh the trailer was colourful anyways. I'm interested in this if only to see how much influence Fire Emblem has in the title. And is the Chrom in this meant to be the one from Awakening?
Actually, the title of this game got changed to Genei Ibun Roku X FE. I think Nintendo Life should update that. I still don't know why Nintendo had to change the name. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem just rolls off the tongue better in my opinion.
Caeda...what have they done to you? You used to be a strong, fearless, moderately proportioned warrior who was willing to put your life on the line to protect Marth and now you are the demure Onee-san with the big boo boos. Redemption is only possible if the Demi-Fiend makes an appearance at some point in the future.
Never played any of the games, so I'm really excited to see some gameplay.
Like someone previously stated, I'm... confused... as to what this is. I've only sampled the SMT games, and I like their themes and know OF them, but I'm not crazy about their gameplay or dungeon crawling. FE I'm a dedicated fan. But this video... it seems to be neither of either franchise a whole lot. Perhaps more SMT than FE, but still. I want to support both of these companies, but unfortunately I will be waiting for a review so I can understand exactly WHAT I would be getting into lol
Okay, knowing the Japanese name for the game makes this have more sense. Ibunroku is apparently the name used in the Persona and Devil Survivor series. And these images from the trailers definitely go with that, over, say, the main-line series like SMTIV for example.
@Spoony Oh well, I can totally understand that you'd be disappointed if you expected this to simply be main lime SMT with FE gameplay, vice versa, or anywhere in between. In certainly looks nothing like mainline SMT games. I, however, think it's great that this game is going to be doing it's own thing. I much prefer something fresh instead of a FE game with SMT characters, but that's just my opinion. But will be playing it and then deciding whether or not I like it. I'm not going to let a trailer deter me from playing a game made up of two of my favorite series combined. Though I didn't think the trailer was bad, but once again, it all comes back to the individuals taste.
What little interest I had for this game after seeing the trailers, decreased slowly as I watched the Treehouse gameplay and explanations. It ultimately died when the characters started singing and dancing in battle. The combat is just what you would expect from a normal JRPG, the combo system and enemy weaknesses aren't anything new or special. With that, there's really only the theme, story and setting that's left to talk about. For me personally, I am fine with the setting being in a big city in modern Japan, but I do not like the theme and core concept being on singing, dancing, idols and pop stars. I won't comment on story as we really don't know what it's going to be like.
With regards to the use of the SMT and FE names, they've already changed and removed SMT and used something else so I won't comment on SMT features. However, the name FE is still in the title and I have to say that what little relevance it has to the FE franchise is negligible at best. The weapon triangle which is basically part of the weakness system is maybe the one thing that has any relevance to the FE series. You can easily change the name and face of the FE characters and call this game something else, that's how much relevance it has with FE.
I personally think a better combat system for this crossover would be something along the lines of what The Last Remnant had. Despite that game being rated overall average, I find that it's still more appealing than all of what was shown to us so far about this crossover.
And on a side note, so far this reminds of the anime Macross Frontier, and I hated that anime.
@Kronem I wasn't aware they changed the name, thought I suppose that would make sense as it seems to have nothing to do with SMT. Do you know what they're calling it now by chance? I'd like to watch some gameplay videos as I'm very eager to see how it actually plays.
@thatguyEZ
It's now called Genei Ibun Roku X FE (or as some people call it GIRFE) which in English literally means "Revelation of the Illusion X FE".
If you want to see gameplay, then watch the shorter version from IGN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRSRmovouv4 (around 12 mins is where I lost all interest in this game)
OR
the longer (around 45 minutes) Treehouse video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRcGHIp8KvY
