Xenoblade Chronicles X is extremely close to release, a cause for celebration for Monolith Soft and RPG fans with a Wii U. With many, many hours of content it's sure to keep players busy into 2016, and it takes many of the mechanics from its Wii predecessor and shakes them up - the Skell mechs are a big part of that, naturally.
Nintendo has been releasing some trailers and videos recently, though we think this two and a half minute Battle Trailer may be the best yet. It shows off some impressive scuffles, both on foot and in Skells, while emphasizing the range of foes and environments in the game. As a hype building exercise we think it definitely does the job.
Check it out below and let us know if you agree.

This game needs more hype! This is one of the few games released on a Nintendo system that could generate attention from those other system holders! I'm going to watch this video loud and proud!
This looks amazing, I can hardly wait, the problem is gonna be to decide if I should play this or Splatoon, which is really addictive too.
... give it to me now! NOW!
here I was, hoping to see a fight between the characters and that
neck-Gonads bird thingy.
Should be renamed the 'Fallout 4 On Steroids' trailer xD
Really looking forward to this!!
ow yeah!i will get completly lost in this game and i pray nobody will find me.exit reality in 3 2 1 ... (this cant be healthy )
So, so, so incredibly disappointed at the lack of dual audio.
I'm salivating over here.
@Yorumi Actually, personally, I want more games like Baten Kaitos ... I'm still not 100% on-board with Monolith's version of a (mostly) singleplayer MMORPG, and let's not pretend this is not structured like one, because it is, just as Xenoblade was, though the story in Xenoblade was actually above average in that regard, plus there were cutscenes.
Therefore, I'm still on the fence about this one, I want more unique jRPGs from Monolith, but not necessarily this particular brand of RPG.
@naut
Still hoping it'll show up as a dlc so it was only because of storage limits that they removed it.
Still buying it, but it may end up gathering dust in hopes of a dlc coming...
@Shiryu mesmo...nunca sofri tanto por um jogo...
Pergunta:
A única loja que está a fazer pré-venda é a worten
STOP THIS ALREADY!!!
Too unbearable to wait...
@Desy64 Fisico, edição limitada. O meu está encomendado no Corte Ingles de LX.
Urgh, family event on the 5th, I wanted to play this all day... fml!
The icon sits looking at me, laughing at me on my Wii U! One little update and you could play right now!
Man...I wish the protagonist was voiced D:
@LUIGITORNADO Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the protagonist does have voice acting (you can choose between multiple voices I believe).
Not on my Christmas list.. Can't wait an extra three weeks so I'm buying the special ed myself
Is there Japanese voice acting in the EU version?
Also, why must you release 3 RPGs on the same day, Nintendo?!
Won't be playing this until after Christmas (I need to focus on buying gifts), but good lord is the wait going to be hard!
Seriously I am hyped for this game. Only if I hadn't so many doubts about the story and its characters. Seriously, I am not impressed and from the informations I've gathered thus far, my doubts are strengthened. Having humans adapt to an unknown planet has such a great potential for a great and unique story - and you go with this route, Monolith!? Seriously?
@SetupDisk Right there with you. This is one of those games that I feel like Nintendo neglects in it's pursuit of the non-core gamer. While I don't think it would ever be a "Mario" game in terms of sales, it could do better than it has if it was marketed better.
@Shiryu ainda pensei mandar vir amazon.fr bom preço
Corte Ingles calculo que seja 75e, too much...anyway vemo-nos por Mira?
@Darknyht
Even if they had an also coming to Wii U bit at the end of all those Mario Maker ads or something. I haven't seen any advertising for this game except the eshop and directs.
@Desy64 60€. You bet, I'm working really hard to finish new music album and NL article so I have December all to myself and this game.
@naut lol. Who wants to listen to Japanese voices that you can't understand?
Love the visuals, soundtrack, mechs, scope of exploration & customization, but I'm still on the fence with this game despite being very excited when it was first announced.
Gave Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3ds a go when it came out earlier in the year & although I enjoyed certain areas of it, the controls never really clicked with me, even after about 15 or so hours which took away some of the fun factor & I have a feeling this may be the same for me - bit of a gamble given its current price & my current lack of spare time to fully commit to a game with so much depth.
Certainly does look absolutely amazing but with Just Cause 3 next week which I'll be getting for my brother (& possibly either M&L Paper Jam or an AU import of Yokai Watch the week after) it's one I'll pick up next year at some point instead, hopefully by then I'll have more free time to sink the hours into a console game of this scope & if there is a physical copy around at a good price.
Hope everyone else enjoys it anyway.
lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaa don't wanna get spoiled lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala
@DarthNocturnal Why are you waiting until Christmas? Get Xenoblade X day 1!
There's just no hype around this title apart from us highly informed folks who scour sites like this. Which is a crying shame because it looks like a game worthy hyping.
@abbyhitter I like songs a lot less when I can undestand the words, actually.
I agree. This should be all over the TV. It would sell to Mech game and RPG fans.
@Yorumi Heh that be awesome but I'm not sure they do these kind of things on tv anymore at least on video games (I'm sure a couple of car commericals do that). The only thing that comes to mind is the Sunset Overdrive and that was a world premiere trailer only. Unless I missed a commercial or two?
"We need to learn to play nice with these guys". And then they proceed to kill everything. Yep. Nice.
They could easily edit this down to a 30 second spot and it will be fine. Why aren't these airing all over the net on Hulu or Crunchyroll or whatnot?
Awesome trailer!!
@Jayvir They actually edited the video down to two 30secs (which were released before the full length video) clips which have been used for promotion.
Have they released anymore of the 5 part training guide. I've only found 3, they're running out of time!
@Harmonia These would be the ones you're talking about, then:

@Yorumi Nintendo advertises, but they are targeting the family/young kid audience. Most of the ads I see are when the television is on Disney, Cartoon Network or Nick. As a book I just finished pointed out, Nintendo gave up more or less on chasing the "Core" gaming community for the "Family" and "Casual" audiences around the time they released the DS.
As another story pointed out, Nintendo generally has this attitude that "Core" gamers that want their games like Xenoblade already know about it. So why advertise? I think the lack-luster response of Bayonetta 2 shows that to an extent they are correct. Those of the "Core" gaming crowd left with Nintendo either go elsewhere for "Core" experiences or just find what they little they give.
Glad to hear that Xenoblade Chronicles X is receiving so much attention from Nintendo UK! I really, really hope it pays off. The internet seems to be abuzz, but at the same time vocal minorities always appear bigger than they want to admit...
@TheRealThanos Indeed.
It's by the way the perfect example of how NoE does advertising.
Get a clip without voice over, no text is a bonus, change the end for each country they deem worthy advertising for and you're good to go to advertise in 6+ countries!
The lack of marketing of this game will come back to haunt them I think. Shame as I think this could be a 9/10 and a huge game.
@Crimzonlogic
Haha, I was thinking about that too as soon as she said it!
ps CANNOT WAIT for this ))))
@bennyt Buy the Wii version. It is much better than the 3DS version control wise and graphics wise.
Shut up and take my money
Aww sweet, Kurt Russel from Escape from New York
If this was on PS4 or X1 Sony and MS would be throwing all their marketing muscle behind it to ensure success.
What does Nintendo do? YouTube videos that only Nintendo fans will look up with no attempt to seriously attract sales. This is the kind of laziness and inept PR that sank Metroid Prime, the whole GCN and Wii U to rock bottom of the sales.
This game is going to be glorious.
@naut ...why do you need the audio on the gamepad when you can hear it on the TV? And if you want it on the gamepad...just switch to the gamepad mode and you can still play off your TV....What would be the point of dual audio anyways? You can get notifications on screen and there is never a need for dual audio...
To the people who question why some people want Dual Audio, it is because the Japanese voice acting industry is huge and very competitive, leading to their audio being generally of very high quality compared to English dubs which are often lacklustre in comparison. Also many prefer to consume media in its original language.
Although considering how they changed up all the names, they would need a second set of subtitles for the Japanese dub, if it was there. Xenoblade Chronicles was dual audio but not this -_-
This game is going to amazing, and hopefully it gets the sales it deserves. Unfortunately, I would have to agree that Nintendo should definitely have been putting their marketing muscle behind it. Sadly, the game will sell a fraction of what it could have with better advertising. It has awesome aspects of both JRPGs (story, characters, gameplay) and western RPGs (customizable main character, huge open world, etc.). Just look at it! Plus it has one of the biggest world map, with the map size 400km2! That is more than Witcher 3, Skyrim and Fallout 3 (I think) combined (although there is lots of water in this).
Still buying it day 1. My whole winter vacation, dedicated to Xeno X.
@Yorumi
I have seen Mario Maker ads. I saw the splatoon ads and long ago I am sure I saw a 3D world one.
Not first party but also Zombiu.
Definitely looking forward to this game, buying it on release!
And my internship begins on the 7th... I'll have to make most of that weekend then. I really can't wait for XCX!
@LasermasterA I can buy the audio quality argument (although English dub voice actors are generally better than they used to be) but not the idea of it being in the original language unless you actually know the language. Most of us don't, so we have to rely on subtitles, which usually contain grammar errors, inconsistent name romanizations, and confusing untranslated Japanese references.
On the other hand, English dubs these days usually do a very good job with their translations while keeping more of the Japanese culture intact while still substituting appropriately (or censoring) when necessary, plus they provide official English name pronunciations when they contain L's, R's, or unusual vowel placements. We're no longer in the days when companies like 4Kids would routinely Westernize the names, completely bastardize the dialogue with American slang and references, and censor entire plot elements.
Great video, but anyone know the song that started about 1:45m in?
Can't wait! The combat system in the first one was very addicting. The only RPG I never bored or frustrated with random encounters.
Limited Edition exclusive to GAME
This game is the reason why I am glad I bought a Wii U.
All perfect, only the music is not my tatste. -.-
Why no Dubstep ^^
Day 1 purchase for me, this looks like a game i can sink into.
@Yorumi It is more or less an admission that they cannot compete against the juggernauts of Sony and Microsoft directly, so they are indirectly competing by going after the audiences that the others ignore. The generally focus that I see with the Wii U is family together in the living room, with most games having a co-op feature. Think about the Japanese commercial of the younger kids making levels for their dad to try to beat.
This is the failure of the Nintendo Direct. They assume everyone will watch the Directs and see games like Xenoblade featured. Those of us that are interested will follow, while everyone else moves on. Meanwhile, other companies put effort in keeping their Xenoblade games in the public mind, including those that never heard of it before.
So hyped, wonder how many limited editions they made...
@BulbasaurusRex
Yes it is indeed true that English dubs have indeed improved in quality, but there are many who would still prefer the original. Although it is true that localization often ends up giving people wrong context in subtitles due to some script changes to accommodate English dub or any other dub. Subbed is getting an ever increasing fanbase as tons of people like the Japanese voice acting despite most not knowing the language. I don't mind the English dub as much as I would miss the banter they do during battle if I turned it to Japanese as my Japanese is still pretty weak, but I would miss the choice.
As I said earlier, it is a shame that the option for Japanese audio is no longer offered to fans who would like to listen to the original voices. They probably removed it due to size constraints since the game is almost as big as the max capacity of a Wii U disc and maybe to avoid costs to retain voice acting outside Japan.
@Yorumi The book made it pretty clear that it was an admission that they couldn't. The statements came about after they were losing marketshare (and third party support), stuck in last place during the Gamecube era despite initially going after the "Core" audience. The book is "Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America" by Jeff Ryan and offered a lot on what Nintendo has done and how it affects what they do.
Basically they have always viewed themselves as an "Entertainment" company so their focus is on not being the biggest or fastest, but having the best, most entertaining games. The other part of their philosophy is to use "seasoned" technology to build those games. That is why just about ever console with the exception of the Gamecube was built on old tech used in a different way. Game & Watch was just LCD calculators retooled, GBA was monochrome because it was cheap, GBA was a portable SNES, DS was a portable N64, and Wii was "two Gamecubes duct-taped together" with basic gyroscopic controls.
Yet the games presented on all of those systems were at least novel and amusing. We may not like it as core gamers, but the top 20 biggest single-platform selling games are dominated with the likes of Wii Sports (82 mil), Super Mario Bros (40 mil), Mario Kart Wii (36 mil), Wii Sports Resort (32 mil), New Super Mario Bros (30 mil), NSMB Wii (29 mil), Wii Play (28 mil), Nintendogs (23 mil), Pokemon Red, Blue & Green (23 mil), Mario Kart DS (23 mil), Pokemon Gold & Silver (23 mil), Wii Fit (22 mil), Wii Fit Plus (21 mil), Super Mario World (20 mil), Brain Age (19 mil), Super Mario Land (18 mil).
So if you were Nintendo, which games and market would you be going after?
I'm really looking forward to this, there's not much else like it on Nintendo consoles.
@Yorumi But have they completely failed? The Wii U console is almost certainly a failure, but that could be more due to a horrible name and poor marketing as much as anything else. The quality of their games is still there with examples of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash, Mario Maker, Super Mario 3D World and Splatoon. The 3DS is still profitable and looks to continue to be right now. The Amiibo line, as much as I hate them, are selling strongly. Nintendo still seems to have their magic.
I would also argue that if NX rumors are to believed, they are moving to improve their situation regardless of third party support (which is important but not as important as everyone believes). One of Nintendo's current problems is they have to support two unique consoles simultaneously. Imagine the Wii U library if Nintendo wasn't doing this constant dance trying to keep both the Wii U and 3DS afloat with software (or the other way around if you prefer).
So while I don't think it is all roses with Nintendo, it isn't doom and gloom either. I would also say that you, like me, fall more into the "core" audience and that means we are not the primary marketing target anymore for Nintendo. We are free to enjoy their games, but they will make compromises for the non-core gamer (like Yarn Yoshi's mellow mode).
@Yorumi As I said, people change and tastes change with age. A few years ago I would have been right there with you. Now, I appreciate that Nintendo is not just like everyone else. I like having quality games that stay below the M-Rating line. It isn't that I am bothered by them or think they are bad games, just that for most of them the blood, sex, and language exists only for shock value or to make the game seem edgy or cool. Neither really interests me anymore.
@LasermasterA Like I said, I can understand if someone prefers subs for the quality of the voice acting. I just don't get the "original language" argument, as that implies the actual content of the lines, with which I generally find the dubs to have the advantage for the reasons I stated. Personally, I only watch subbed if there is no official English dub or for certain animé like "One Piece" and "Fairy Tail" where the English dub is so far behind that I don't have the patience to wait for it.
@Yorumi Um, other than dropping a dedicated Adventure Mode and local tourneys (which is somewhat balanced by the addition of online tourneys), Smash4WiiU has the most content yet. Aside from more characters, stages, and music choices; the aforementioned online tourneys, Smash Tour (love it or hate it, it's still new), Master and Crazy Orders, custom moves and equipment, Omega Stages, 8 player battles, amiibo functionality, and added coop to some modes (as well as online battles that don't always lag) are all brand new additions.
I'm with you on All-Star Racing Transformed having the edge over MK8, though.
Oh, by the way, with the advent of smartphones, I don't think it's even possible for a dedicated gaming handheld to sell as well as the older ones anymore. Sure, we know how better button controls and deeper portable games are, but the casuals who bought the DS in droves and even the older GameBoy line to an extent don't really care to see the difference. I think the 3DS has done quite well to sell as well as it has and kicked Vita's butt so hard Sony has given up completely on the handheld market (well, unless the come up with their own smartphone, since they are a broader electronics company).
Only things that puts me off in this game are the lyrics in the soundtrack and the lack of the playable character's voice acting during cut scenes. This game looks amazing! Really couldn't care less about the absence of Japanese voice acting and the insignificant censorship changes.
@BulbasaurusRex
Hey I am not saying that my second argument is very reasonable. But that is what lot of fans want, despite not knowing the language, so tell that to them
