Re: Talking Point: Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem Could Provide Nintendo's Mobile Breakthrough With Fans

Kogorn733

I'm really torn. On the one hand, I view gamers who game only on mobile devices (tablets/phones) as the low-birth dregs of gaming society, and don't want to enable their behavior. On the other, I think having mobile games designed to funnel or channel such gamers to dedicated gaming devices, which it appears Nintendo is trying to do, is a great way to elevate them into legit gaming society.

Re: Reaction: The NX Release in March 2017 and How It Changes the Game

Kogorn733

What bothers me is not so much Nintendo releasing the NX in March 2017. That makes some degree of sense timing-wise in terms of spacing out console releases and not trying to be too early, or too late, in comparison with the next generation of consoles.

What DOES bother me is the fact that Nintendo has made no effort to really generate and maintain hype for the NX. We still know nothing about it and, in the current Nintendo market context, have no reason to get excited without further information. Many Nintendo fans are skeptical given the Wii U's track record, and SOME tidbit of information would have helped generate and maintain excitement. Modern advertising methods are all about generating hype now.

I don't think the reason for the delay is a production issue. I think it's a combination of what Darren stated about avoiding a crowded market, and also a desire to protect trade secrets in the NX. I think the NX is going to be doing something really really new, and the more that is revealed about it in advance, the more competitors can do to try and remove that edge and/or learn about them through reverse engineering.

Re: Nintendo's 'Supplemental Computing Device' Patent is Cleared for Completion

Kogorn733

What I honestly think this will be is a device with modular processing power, where the consumer can increase the power of the console by buying attachments (sort of like how you buy additional ram for the PC), in order to enhance the console. The new console, as well as other ones that could be synced or connected to it, would draw off this additional power.

Re: Weirdness: North American Devil's Third Copies Sell for Silly Money on eBay Due to Stock Shortage

Kogorn733

@darklinkinfinite

So far, the single player is better than people give it credit for. More 6-7/10 range than 2-3/10 in any event. It's goods, mindless fun, and the switching between first and third person is more fluid than the reviews made it sound.

I'm about a couple chapters in, though I'm waiting for my (likely) Christmas present of a pro-controller before I continue. The controls definitely do not lend themselves well to the gamepad.

Re: Weirdness: North American Devil's Third Copies Sell for Silly Money on eBay Due to Stock Shortage

Kogorn733

I knew this would happen, in part because it's a niche game and (likely) Itagaki's last console game in light of the rumors that his studio is switching to mobile.

Reserved my copy when it was announced. My Gamestop hadn't even had it unpacked on release day when I came to pick it up; the employee had to go retrieve it from the back. Pretty sure my copy was the only copy in there.

Bought it to play though, not sell, so kind of a moot point. But I did get my hands on it

Re: Pokémon Developer Game Freak Acquires Smartphone Development Studio Koa Games

Kogorn733

As I recall, the Pokemon Company (which makes and owns subsidiaries that license the Pokemon brand), is owned by Nintendo, Gamefreak, and Creatures Inc., with Nintendo owning a majority of the shares in the company. Thus, Gamefreak cannot make and publish new Pokemon games without Nintendo's say-so/approval. Outside that realm, however, Gamefreak is technically a third-party developer, and can act independently of Nintendo.

I might be getting some of the specifics wrong, but I think that's the general picture.

Re: Random: Blizzard Keeps Up The Nintendo Love By Including Samus Aran-Style Outfit In Heroes Of The Storm

Kogorn733

Don't think they'd get sued. This is far from copyright infringement, and in order to be an infringement of the right to produce derivative works something has to be "based upon" the existing work. Here, while drawing inspiration from Samus's costume, the design of the character, game, etc. are so unlike that of the actual Samus character/Metroid series that I'm not sure it could be said to be "based upon" them.

Re: Talking Point: Star Fox Zero's Delay Could Be The Final Nail In The Wii U's Coffin

Kogorn733

I'm fine with delay. However, with present circumstances having made it impossible to deny that the Wii U is on its last legs as of E3 2015 (even to diehard Nintendo fans like myself), articles like this that continue reinforcing that point are needless garbage/clickbait. I would have expected better from NL. For comparison, you guys did a much better job with this article (which I liked), which actually added something new to the conversation: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/09/talking_point_sweeping_internal_changes_show_that_nintendo_is_ready_to_tackle_new_challenges

Re: The Legend of Legacy is Coming to Europe... in Winter 2016

Kogorn733

I'm in the states, but I sympathize with Nintendo gamers in Europe. How could it possibly take more than a year to translate/localize the game?? Are there really THAT many hoops that have to be jumped through? Is there really some marketing reason to wait THAT long? What exactly is the deal?

Re: Exclusive: Project CARS "Simply Too Much For Wii U", Developer Now Waiting On New Nintendo Hardware

Kogorn733

I'm filing these worthless dirtbags in the same category as EA. At least Ubisoft kept its commitment for Watchdogs and then admitted it was done. Bethesda Softworks was upfront too about not supporting Wii U, as were Deep Silver, Square-Enix, Mojang, and Konami. I have respect for people who are upfront about their business plans and what not, even if it means no Wii U support. But I have a problem with bullpoopy excuses (i.e. Gamefreak's Tembo) or withdrawing support after acting as if its happening.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's E3 Digital Event Brought Franchises We Wanted, But Not The Blockbusters

Kogorn733

Anyone else feel that Nintendo is too focused on finding ways to appeal to Japanese gamers, rather than catering to a much larger, console-loving, Western audience that makes much more sense for them to focus on? In focusing too much on their native land (chibi art style, party games, etc.), they're wasting valuable resources that could be spent on people who buy stuff other than primarily mobile games.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Signature Edition Will Not Be Available For Wii U

Kogorn733

@OMC79

I'm just as mad that the special edition isn't coming out for Wii U, but on a side note, why do people believe that Inafune is not delivering what he promised, in terms of the game itself? I wasn't backing games/following kickstarter at the time of Mighty No. 9's kickstarter, so if anything happened I missed it.

Re: Wii U Stretch Goal Seemingly Teased for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Kogorn733

I know some Wii U owners/fans don't want to back this project anymore because of how Iga treated Nintendo platforms, but there are others who are willing to forgive and back it if the Wii U goal was MORE CERTAIN. Why keep it covered and just "hint" at it? Why not post something about new features intended for the platform? I'm not gonna even think about backing something based on a lone indirect comment and part of an image that only slightly appears to include the Wii U logo.

People like certainty.

Re: Editorial: The eShop's Pricing Dilemma is the Fault of Many, But Damages Creativity and Risk Taking

Kogorn733

Anyway, on the subject at hand, I see no reason why indie developers who have confidence in their products can't price their products higher. Indies are GOOD for the industry, and we want them to expand and grow. How else is an indie studio to expand if they can't move from charging pennies for a low quality game, to much more for a higher-quality game? There's no reason indies should be de facto limited to a certain price bracket. Affordable Space Adventures was well worth my day 1 purchase at full price, and I've never looked back.
