Re: PSA: The New Denpa Men Is Available Now On The Switch eShop

Kitsune_Rei

I have actually been kind of frustrated because there is NO listing for it at all on the US eshop. (It's up now in other regions). You had no way to wishlist it. I had been checking since I heard the announcement. As of this moment, there is still no indication on it's existence on eshop. If I didn't research and already know it's supposed to be out, I'd probably miss it.

Re: 39 Best 3DS eShop Games You Should Get Before They're Gone Forever

Kitsune_Rei

Aaaa there is no time and I have no money!

Some things actually seem really hard to come by physical copies but are in the eShop. I'm looking really hard at Yo-kai Watch 2 Psychic Spectres and 3 because I couldn't even find physical copies of them when they came out, plus 4 isn't happening. But they're retail price ;_;

Re: When Does The 3DS And Wii U eShop Close? Nintendo eShop Closure Guide

Kitsune_Rei

The 3DS has SO MANY great games! Though I admit it's gathered dust, and I barely have time for the great games on Switch.
I had to dig around to find my plug for my 3DS. I hope it turns on or I'll be really sad. I have a lot of games for it I'd never get rid of. I even have a Kirby hard shell for it. Granted I still have a GBA SP for the handful of GB games I kept but don't play.

Re: Review: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet - An Open-World Poké Playground Full Of Promise (And Tech Issues)

Kitsune_Rei

I'm sad it just feels like the game could have used another year in development to shine. There are plenty of Switch games that are beautiful and run fine on the hardware. It's not a bad game, but it could have been a GREAT game if they'd just spent some more time on optimization and landscape and depth. I'm not far enough in to comment on story. I like all the Pokemon and Character designs, and Pokemon as a franchise proves the basic gameplay is solid.
I enjoyed the changes of Arceus, and I know some folks wish they'd brought more of those mechanics over, but I think part of the point of Arceus is it's a different time when we were first discovering partnership with Pokemon rather than fearing them, and thus things work differently than modern times of Pokemon. I like that it's rather unique.

I was expecting more, but I'll still have fun. This is the future of Pokemon, but they kinda tripped coming out of the gate. I was kind of expecting to be done with Pokemon after feeling pretty meh about Sword/Shield and it seeming like they were sticking to rehashing the same formula, but Arceus brought me back in.

Re: Review: Wytchwood - A Striking And Addictive Crafting Adventure

Kitsune_Rei

This is very much a casual cozy game. The few enemies that are aggressive aren't a huge threat, and dying isn't a big deal. You can figure things out and identify items to interact with by inspecting them, so it's fairly easy to figure out what you should be doing. You pick up and kill everything. You have to enjoy exploring and gathering items. At least inventory isn't an issue.
I found the visuals and setting, and overall feel of the story to be the compelling part of the game. I continue because I'm curious where it's going. While there are many different crafting ingredients and a variety of ways to gather them, it really just feels like you gather to create the correct icon and progress to the next part of the story. The crafting in itself isn't very deep.
Still enjoying it, but there was a bit less to it than I expected. If you want to make the game harder, you can not use your power to see how to do things, and just figure it out by trial and error (a lot of the solutions are pretty logical).

Re: Zany RPG 'Nobody Saves The World' Coming To Switch This Month

Kitsune_Rei

Is the online co-op like local co-op?
Basically I'm really interested in this game, but I love playing brawlers with a friend, who would be playing online. It sounded like the online co-op was limited- it only contributed to the main save file, and the second player had to be the same character type?

Re: ICYMI: Bandai Namco Gives Fans Another Look At The New Digimon Survive Trailer

Kitsune_Rei

I was really excited for this, but now I'm concerned.
I like all the character and digimon designs, and I like tactical games so I'm good with the playstyle. It also seems darker which is cool.

But it pretty much sounds like they scrapped most of the original game and started over with a new team :/ So all that time before was mostly for nothing. Why did this happen? Was it originally not a good game?
I'm worried now they'll rush it just to get something released and it won't be good. There's no way it can live up to expectations with the time that has passed. Everything about it seems so vague, like they're not even sure what the game is. It seems likely the Digimon you use may be pretty limited.

I think we'll be lucky to see it in 2023, or it may just finally quietly disappear.
Whelp, Cyber Sleuth is on a good sale so picking that one up finally.

Re: Kitaria Fables - How To Make Money, Find Materials, And Complete Quests

Kitsune_Rei

This game does need a guide. I thought I could just get through if I worked at growing crops and making stuff, but the returns aren't great so I looked for guides to focus so I'm not wasting time. Why can't games have logical price structures for growing, crafting, and selling? It's taken long enough just to get the basic equipment upgrade, I've spent hours and unlocked very little.

Re: Review: Kitaria Fables - A Delightfully Cute, Fantasy Life-Style RPG Adventure

Kitsune_Rei

I just picked it up on sale and have no regrets. It's a slow build of explore and fight to gather, with a bit of farming. I'm currently having a hard balance of if I want to dump my money into seeds for future rewards or into upgrades for my character now.
It is like Fantasy Life in that the main part of the game seems to be on the main maps, and there is a lot of crafting to progress. It's been quite a while since I played FL so I don't recall the specifics of the game, but it was deeper that KL, which is more casual. I'd still absolutely love to have a true FL sequel on Switch.
It's a slow start just so folks know, your hand will be held through the first couple quests which are about going out to fight before you unlock farming. Right now the farming seems to be a little bit of an afterthought, but maybe as I progress the stuff I grow will be more useful for making food.
I would honestly advise checking a guide for the more efficient things to do for making money, because otherwise the returns on selling stuff can be really small, and you don't want to sell things needed for quests or upgrades.

So far my only dislike is I have more things I want to equip to express keys than I have buttons for. Switching items for farming tasks is a little tedious.
The storage is also a little odd, there is a field chest on your farm, and a chest in each town, but they aren't linked together so you have to remember where you put things. I'm looking forward to being able to get more storage space.

Re: Review: Cozy Grove - A Great-Looking But Flawed Animal Crossing-Alike, With Ghosts

Kitsune_Rei

I really think this game is an underappreciated gem. It is a slow build patience casual game, you have to be ok with playing just a bit each day, but it really grows as you progress. Yes, it's still light, but I enjoy that- I'm not missing anything if I miss a day.
Plus the developers have already made several updates and continue to make the game better.
I totally dig the charm and am over 70 days in, and haven't found all the bears yet.

Re: Round Up: Here's What Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct E3 2021

Kitsune_Rei

I'm ok with there not being a glut of big new games coming. Their library is already fantastic and I picked up some great titles on sale that will keep me busy! Plus I honestly always have a backlog of games haha.
I also pre-ordered Monster Hunter Stories, really looking forward to that the more I hear about it!

Re: Astria Ascending Gets A Release Date And Stylish New Trailer

Kitsune_Rei

Wow I'd never heard of this. While there are a lot of JRPGs out there, this just looks really nice. I love the variety of character designs. Definitely going to keep an eye out for this. I like the art style, but will look at more gameplay when it's available.

I personally liked Dragon Crown's art style and a friend and I put a lot of hours into it.

Re: Nintendo's Digital Deals Sale Is Now Live, Up To 75% Off Hundreds Of Switch Games

Kitsune_Rei

I'm seeing stuff on this sale that I've never seen discounted previously, even if it isn't a huge discount for some of them. I'm finally going to bite on Pikmin 3 Deluxe, I've never actually owned a Pikmin game before but they seem so cute.

I've been eyeing Part Time UFO for a bit so will probably grab that one too. It's hard when a bunch goes on sale! I want a few more but don't want to spend too much, so some hard decisions will have to be made.
Also I'm running out of room on my SD card!
There is so much stuff on sale my Switch gave up loading the eShop list after a while lol.

There are several titles I've already bought on sale that are always worth it.

Re: Review: Wizdom (3DS eShop)

Kitsune_Rei

I'd also say this game has a bit of that Airport Mania feel in a way since you're managing both screens at once, and have to keep an eye on customer potion demands, and what you have stock of.

Re: Review: Wizdom (3DS eShop)

Kitsune_Rei

Its a little more expensive on the $9.99 side, but I felt its just shy of being a cartridge game. There are a number of worlds which have a bunch of levels in each. The gameplay style is unique (at least from what I've played), and I thought it was really good. Surprised to see this only get a 6. Its still a little simple, but the game obviously has more polish and thought than a basic cheapie match game. I would have rated it higher, and recommend it. I'm currently on the second world and enjoying it. You generally don't have to worry about failing a level, but getting all the stars can be a challenge.

Re: Pokémon Shuffle Gets Its First Ever Escalation Battle

Kitsune_Rei

It is a heart burner getting through the stages over and over, but at least I caught him eventually and its a useful Pokemon. I usually can't place high enough to get the special stones during competitions so that's frustrating I don't know how people have Pokemon at max level, they level up soooo slowly. I've played through most of the game.

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

Kitsune_Rei

I'll go digital when I have to or for cheap games, but with physical usually you can get something back when you're done. While I have some games I'd never get rid of, honestly how many people keep the majority of games they buy? Digital or physical, they're usually transitory. The thing is physically, the choice is always in your hands. You also don't have to worry about if you have account issues, save/game corruption (as much), etc. to have access to your game. Though you're also more likely to delete digital games as you're done to make room for more.

Re: New Safari Event Now Live In Pokémon Shuffle

Kitsune_Rei

Its actually pretty mean. I caught a couple of them (they're pretty difficult and the catch rates are low) and you keep wasting hearts to find ones you already have, but not ones you need.
in the main game I'm kinda stuck on Milotic because I don't want to use a power-up but I can't do enough damage. I got stuck a while in the usual places too, Mega Gengar is a beast. I got lucky and used Haunter to combo with the ones he'd leave, since they're still super effective.

I'm also disappointed at the lack of many password perks in the game.

Re: Reaction: Pokémon Shuffle Isn't Quite Microtransaction Hell, But It's Getting There

Kitsune_Rei

I would buy this game at a reasonable retail price, like Battle Trozei. I refuse to put money on one-shot items that have no actual guarantee of success. I'm not going to pay $1 and still fail to catch a Pokemon with a stupidly low capture rate. Its not a bad game, but I'm already seeing stuff set stupidly hard just to make you want to spend money. Leveling up your Pokemon seems slow, and with the heart regeneration grinding isn't something you can do much of.

Re: Poll: Do Video Game Reviews Need To Have A Score?

Kitsune_Rei

I like a basic score and summary at the bottom. If it did crap, I know I will probably pass without needing to know more. It means I don't have to read the whole thing if I'm in a hurry- I'll check the bottom, and then skim the review for details if I want to know more. If I do have time or really want to know everything, I'll read the whole review.

Re: Pokémon Puzzle Challenge

Kitsune_Rei

YAAAAY! I just realized this was coming because Serebii lists it as a way to get a demo code for Ruby/Sapphire. So buying, one of my all time favorite games.

Re: Review: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (3DS)

Kitsune_Rei

Got it today, love it so far. I'd say it renders the first one obsolete. More songs, better modes. It seems to be beginner friendly, and it takes a while to get all the modes unlocked- the game explains everything really well, and makes you get familiar with each mode before giving you more, but doesn't make you linger too long with each one. Questing and Versus came later on.
I'm so used to stylus from the first one I stuck with it, but a friend was really digging button control. Its really adaptable for whatever you want to try, and you can easily switch styles.
The game does get super hard, but there seems to be plenty of content in the easy-medium range. There is SO MUCH to do. They seem more generous so far with giving you crystals for character unlocks. And you get to CHOOSE which character from the color group each time!
You share your quest maps just like the old dark notes, but this system is far better and more replayable.
I'm still figuring out how much my team setup matters and what I should do. My initial characters were just a group I liked. I don't even know who they all are. I'm trying to go magic since I liked that in the first game.

The only thing I could ask for is co-op play. My only annoyance was a few characters are DLC. There is already DLC up I think.

Re: Kirby Mini-Games Now Available on North American eShop

Kitsune_Rei

That seems a bit pricey even if they did add more content... they were pretty shallow games to begin with.
I must suck, because I didn't get the DeDe Drum game at all. Like I couldn't even get through part of the first one. I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing.
I played the Fighters one a bit, but I got bored with it. There's a lot of good selections, but its again pretty simple. I guess that would be more fun if you had friends to play with. It is pretty much Kirby-themed Smash Bros super light.

Such angry Kirby!
