Re: Review: Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (Switch eShop)

KirbyTheVampire

The lack of large multiplayer servers and mods make this version, and all non-PC versions, extremely unattractive for me, the lack of large servers in particular. Those are basically what makes the game fun, and only being able to play basic survival/creative mode and a couple mini games with little groups of friends just doesn't compare when you could potentially be playing things like The Hunger Games and a whole swathe of other mini games and mods and anything else you could imagine with hundreds/thousands of other people. (There are plenty of small community servers out there as well, though)

Portability also isn't much of a draw for me, considering my Switch has never left the house. Gonna have to pass on this one. I'm pretty burnt out on this game anyway, considering I've played it from about 2012-2016.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

KirbyTheVampire

@Ralizah That's true. Besides, female (and male) characters that can't show any weakness whatsoever are just really boring characters. People might view it as sexist that Zelda couldn't finish Ganon off on her own and that Link had to "save her" (even though all he did was help to finish him off. Zelda was the one to strike the killing blow, and was the only one capable of doing so), but that would honestly be a story not worth making into a game. I'd rather not watch Link wake up in the Shrine of Resurrection and find out that Ganon is gone and Hyrule is all sunshine and daisies, lol.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

KirbyTheVampire

@Haru17 Well for one thing, (SPOILER ALERT), she had been holding Ganon back from destroying the whole world for 100 years, which is hardly an anime waif thing to do. Link could do nothing but spend a century recovering from wounds, and he spends the entirety of the game building up strength to face what Zelda had been holding back all that time. I see it more as teamwork than Zelda being a damsel in distress. After all, it took both of them to finally finish Ganon off. Link didn't and couldn't do it by himself, nor could Zelda. I do see what you're saying in that she wasn't really in the game at all aside from the memories and at the end, but that's understandable. It's not like she was being held hostage. Rather, she was holding Ganon hostage.

I wouldn't be opposed to Zelda having a more active role in the next game, but she's hardly an anime waif. Link is the bigger anime waif, if anything. The only difference between the two is that Link ran around Hyrule much more than Zelda. It seems more like an underused character than sexism to me.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

KirbyTheVampire

@Haru17 I don't think it was sexist. She had the weight of the whole world on her shoulders, so NOT acting like a super hardcore female version of Rambo is only normal. Why is it that nowadays, if a female isn't portrayed as ultra powerful and amazing 24/7, that means it's sexist? I personally don't know anyone, man or woman, that if they potentially had the fate of the whole world in his/her hands, wouldn't feel just a TINY bit of pressure.

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

KirbyTheVampire

@HappyMaskedGuy She wasn't that bad, I just wasn't very impressed by it compared to the others in hindsight, after hearing all the complaints about the voice actors and thinking about which was the worst. I got to Zora's Domain within like the first day of playing though, and I got the game on launch day, so I might have to go back and rewatch that cutscene to double check.

Re: Nintendo is Still Targeting Switch Sales to Match the Wii

KirbyTheVampire

Not happening IMO. I think 50-60+ is achievable, but 100 mil is just way too high to be realistic. MAYBE if Nintendo doesn't bring out a 3DS successor and brings us some truly awesome games in the coming years, it could get kind of close to that target, but 100 mil would still be a pretty big stretch IMO.

Re: Analyst Firm Macquarie Predicts Impressive Nintendo Switch Sales in the Coming Year

KirbyTheVampire

@KIRO If the concept of hunting huge monsters and using strategy/working as a team with online players to bring it down appeals to you, go for it. (Pretty sure there's a single player mode too, though. There was one in Tri, anyway) I was addicted to the last one that I played, but haven't had a system to play the more recent games in the series until now. Monster Hunter was actually a pretty big factor in my decision to buy a Switch.

Re: Review: Mr. Shifty (Switch eShop)

KirbyTheVampire

So sick of this trend where unfinished games get pumped out and are called finished products. When a game that looks like it could run fine on consoles from the PS3/Wii era stutters this badly on modern systems, clearly it's just lazy developers who want to make a quick buck.

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

KirbyTheVampire

@Crono1973 That actually wasn't a factor for me at all. I kinda got out of console gaming for a while and really only played games that interested me on Steam, and I only started really following the gaming industry after I saw the Switch reveal trailer, so I honestly didn't know porting games was so prevalent in the industry. I just chose not to buy the Wii U only because there wasn't enough there for me, and because I eventually started hearing the NX rumors and figured I'd wait and see if it interested me more than the Wii U. But yeah, I can see how that could be an issue.

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

KirbyTheVampire

@Crono1973 Probably. IMO though, the Wii U was the worst Nintendo console ever made, in terms of first and third party support as well as the uninteresting idea that was the Gamepad. There were definitely some gems on the system, but a lot of the ones that I care about will be released on the Switch in the first year, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 (Not the same as Splatoon 1 of course, but close enough). Plus, I love the hardware, and plenty of franchises that I'm a fan of are either confirmed to be on the Switch, such as a new 3D Mario, or are extremely likely to be on the system, such as Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Smash, various RPGs and indies etc etc. It's what I wished the Wii U was. So I feel no remorse for skipping it.

Re: Preview: Battle Mode is Back On Form in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

KirbyTheVampire

@Dysnomia Yeah, I did. I was interested in some of the games on the Wii U, like Smash, MK8, Pikmin 3, Monster Hunter and a couple others like Splatoon, but ultimately there wasn't enough there for me to justify a purchase, especially considering I couldn't have cared less about the Gamepad, and wasn't super excited about the systems abysmal third party support, even from smaller devs. Plus, there was a distinct lack of franchises that are big selling points for me, such as Animal Crossing. (Not confirmed for Switch of course, but there is a very high chance that the Switch will have an AC) Plus, there was no 3D Mario in the vein of Sunshine and 64, which was a huge bummer for me, and I felt the same way with the Galaxy games, which were very linear.

With the Switch however, I was very attracted to its hybrid functionality right off the bat, and the fact that a lot of the games that I was bummed about missing on the Wii U would be on the Switch within a few months of release like MK8 and Splatoon, along with games coming later on such as Mario Odyssey (Which I'm insanely hyped for, considering Sunshine and 64 were among my favorite games ever, Sunshine especially) and a strong probability for series like Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Smash etc etc to appear on the system made it a day 1 buy for me. There seems to be pretty strong third party support for the Switch too. How good it will be in terms of AAA games remains to be seen, but at the very least there's already a very strong indie presence on the system, with plenty of RPGs coming later on to boot.

Plus, there's Zelda, which I honestly just couldn't stand to pass up.

TL;DR: Yep, I skipped the Wii U cause it didn't catch my interest enough for me to buy it. Love the Switch for its concept and its games.

Re: The Switch Is The Fastest-Selling Video Game System In Nintendo History

KirbyTheVampire

@Crono1973 That's true. I don't think they'll gather dust, though. There's no real reason to buy a Switch unless you plan on playing "hardcore" games like Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild or Splatoon 2, whereas with the Wii, all the soccer moms and grandparents got roped in just to play Wii Sports. The type of gamer to buy a Switch is likely in it for the long haul, for the most part anyway.

Nintendo generally has moved away from the Wii brand and is focusing on games rather than gimmicks.

Re: The Switch Is The Fastest-Selling Video Game System In Nintendo History

KirbyTheVampire

@BiasedSonyFan I didn't say the lineup so far wasn't good, but a few extra games to fill in the gaps in the first year and a few games for next year would still be nice. All I'm saying is that if Nintendo can't achieve that, then some disappointment on people like Yasume's part would be understandable. As it is though, his attitude that Nintendo has already failed is really jumping the gun.

The Wii U majorly hurt Nintendo's name in the eyes of many gamers, and to the general public, they largely dropped off the radar. The 3DS carried them through it, but they still can't afford another failed console. So I would say this years E3 is very important for Nintendo in order to solidify their place in the hardware market once again.

And I'm not saying E3 itself is that big of a deal when it comes to selling systems, seeing as pretty much only hardcore gamers watch E3, but it will give us an idea of how successful they could be with the Switch. You can dismiss E3 as relatively insignificant, and in a way it is since pretty much only hardcore gamers even watch E3, but a lot of people would be a lot more confident in the Switch if they came into E3 with announcements about a new Metroid, Pokemon Stars, a Smash port etc etc. E3 won't necessarily make or break the Switch, but if it turns out to be good, it will certainly help a lot, if only because it would confirm that the lineup is better than it already is.

Re: The Switch Is The Fastest-Selling Video Game System In Nintendo History

KirbyTheVampire

@BiasedSonyFan I'm not condoning anything. I simply can't force him to not make those comments. Even me saying "then you can continue to whine in every single Switch article" is ridiculous, because of course I'm not stopping him from whining right now. If he wants to be illogical and childish, who am I to stop him? I'm not a Nazi, and I don't have that kind of control even if I was.

And to be fair, E3 doesn't have to be super amazing, but if it isn't at least good, I think some criticism would be justified. If they can't manage at least a good E3 now, when they basically ceased Wii U game production for quite a while in order to make Switch games, and especially considering this could be their last hurrah in the console market if the Switch fails, then that's just sad.

Re: The Switch Is The Fastest-Selling Video Game System In Nintendo History

KirbyTheVampire

@Yasume I highly doubt there will be significant droughts. I don't know, of course, (And neither will you until after E3) but the fact that they're released ARMS and Splatoon 2 in such quick succession (ARMS in June, Splatoon 2 in July) seems to indicate that there will be other games on the horizon this year, IMO anyway.

Either way, please ditch the attitude that you know the entire first year lineup, cause you don't. If it turns out E3 sucks, then you can continue to whine in every single Switch article.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 12th April

KirbyTheVampire

The Nintendoomers have really been out-doing themselves lately. They're all crying Nintendoomed because not much was shown in this Direct. Did you people honestly think this Direct would show much of anything when we're only about 2 months away from E3?

If Nintendo had actually revealed a lot of games yesterday, they would all be saying "Now they have nothing left to show at E3! Nintendoomed!"

Get over yourselves and quit begging for attention by complaining about nothing. I just hope attention is all you want, and you didn't actually expect a big Direct when E3 is 2 months away, lol.
