The Media Create results are available, as is the norm for a Wednesday, and they bring more positives for Nintendo in what is generally a quiet week for releases.
Starting with software, the highest new entry in the top 20 is LEGO Worlds on PS4, but that's in fifth place with just 11,578 sales. Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) is still number one, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is showing solid momentum in second spot. Mario Sports Superstars has gone past 50,000 sales after its second week and is in third, while 1-2-Switch also secures a top five spot; the top 20 (with lifetime sales in brackets) is below.
- [3DS] Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) (Capcom, 03/16/17) – 65,672 (1,322,152)

- [3DS] Kawaii Pet to Kurasou! Wan-nyan & Mini Mini Animal (Nihon Colombia, 04/06/17) – 3,631 (New)
Moving on to hardware, the Switch maintains reasonable momentum and is well out in front, though Nintendo will no doubt hope to see a bump in sales once Mario Kart 8 Deluxe lands at the end of the month. New 3DS LL (XL) holds on in second place amid general drops across the market.
- Switch – 41,193 (45,509)
- New 3DS LL – 19,533 (25,719)

- PlayStation 3 – 704 (1,724)
- Wii U – 358 (449)
- Xbox One – 132 (187)
A decent week for Nintendo in a quiet spell, all told - we'll see how things go next week.

Wow! If all the 3ds XL people bought a SWITCH instead!
Japan loves their handhelds. Lego Worlds didn't sell very well.
Interesting to see Vita sales take a big drop there recently. The Vita had been a very solid performer in Japan, having much greater success there than in any other region. I haven't been keeping up with Vita's releases though. I know they have way more games there than here, but I wonder if their releases have slowed, hence the drop off in sales, or if the Switch had anything to do with it.
It still blows my mind how many 3DS units are sold every week in Japan. I mean seriously, who over there doesn't have one by now?
@cfgk24 wait until monster hunter Switch comes out...
With more than half a million Switch's sold in Japan, there is still a significant number of Switch owners who haven't bought Breath of the Wild; wonder what drew them Switchwards?
If Capcom were to release for the Switch a Monster Hunter XXX (well that's a horrible image now in my head!) I can imagine sales taking off. If stock remains healthy.
@FX102A
Monster Hunter XXX ? LOL
@FX102A
Monster Hunter XXX
Lol Lol
Pretty good hold for the Switch. This will be the point when Switch sales begin to overtake Wii U sales in Japan when sales are aligned.
Wish Nintendo would release the Monster Hunter Stories game in the West with English translation. I really want to play that game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Lego Worlds is getting slaughtered in some reviews.
So Switch and Monster Hunter are leading the way? Monster Hunter for Switch should be imminent! Maybe even at E3? ;D
'[PS4] Blue Reflection: Sword of the Girl Who Dances in Illusions'
Catchy name
@FX102A Switch had a bigger launch lineup in Japan, including both Dragon Quest Heroes games in one pack. And DQ has always been a big hit in Japan.
@Tsurii and on Monster Hunter Stories for that matter. But hey, it's not like either of these games wouldn't get its localisation budget back and likely then some.
Not at all surprising. Hopefully Nintendo can keep up this momentum and we may see a return to form! That would be amazing, still my favorite, even after my hardcore Sony phase.
Also, I can't get enough of MHXX, so fun. o3o
1-2-Switch continues to sell incredibly well (all things considering).
As always, love the Xbox sales numbers. Will they even bother to release the Scorpio in Japan?
Monster Hunter on Switch is so happening. The Japanese lap that series up on handhelds. It may take time though as Capcom need to overhaul the graphics engine.
@nhSnork I'm hoping DQH and Romance of the Three Kingdoms comes out West.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Do you think Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild will cut into Monster Hunter's numbers, or will it boost them when it finally comes out for the Switch?
98,571 consoles were sold in Japan last week and Nintendo held a 68.2% share of the market, which is up from the 66.8% share from last week. Nintendo's share grew by 1.4% of the market.
Overall, Japan's weekly sales fell by 17.6% over the last week, but Nintendo did better than the market average, with a lesser 15.8% decline in sales, leading to the gain in market share.
More Nintendo domination.
@ballistic90 dqh yup romance I doubt it
Thats all great and all..but we still need to see some real 3d party support for Switch. Hope Fifa 2018 and NBA2k18 sell well.
And in the U.S.?
@thesilverbrick
I talked to this guy I know who visited Japan. He said that it's a strange phenomenon. Everybody walking in the streets is holding a 3ds!
Still say mario sports should have been a switch game.
@FX102A I'm sure they'd be all over a Monster Hunter game called "XXX", lol.
@DarthFoxMcCloud It bombed hard in Japan, and the people who imported it say it's pretty average.
XB1 sales...ouch
@Jaredfrogman 1million consoles sold right there!
Japan adores MH. No surprise there.
Anyone have sales for previous Zelda games to compare to? I feel like this is stronger sales for a Zelda game in Japan than usual
Steady as she goes for the switch, but slumps all round, not a great week in japan
This isn't the fault of Nintendolife but when I read "Nintendo Switch and Monster Hunter XX" I got real excited for a second.
@EternalDragonX
Some Japanese don't like Western product like xbox. They might reply with weird reaction "Xbox ? Nani sore wa ??"
@IceClimbers
At ~350,000 copies sold, Breath of the Wild on the Switch has just outsold Skyward Sword.
Twilight Princess has sold ~550,000 on the Wii, so it will take a fair bit longer for Breath of the Wild on the Switch outsells that, but it's going to happen, almost certainly before the end of the year.
@CrazedCavalier Guess you're eating your words now eh? LOL. Monster Hunter Stories has in fact been announced for a western release Fall 2017 on 3DS! WOOT!!!!! Looking forward to this!
@DarthFoxMcCloud And I'm confused and disappointed by its announcement.
@CrazedCavalier LOL. Well aren't you hard to please. Well really you shouldn't be disappointed. If you don't want the game, don't buy it. There's plenty of us who want to give it a shot and don't speak Japanese and don't have Japanese 3DS systems to import the game on. So those of us who want the game can play it and you can just avoid it. Really doesn't impact you one bit when you think about it.
@DarthFoxMcCloud The game bombed in Japan and impressions have been mixed-- I am firmly convinced localizing the game will be a waste of time and resources.
@CrazedCavalier The anime is hugely popular in both Japan and the West though. Who knows, the game may not have connected with Japanese audiences. But frankly, that doesn't mean it won't connect with Western gamers. So you won't know that, until the game launches here. I'd be totally fine if it was an eShop exclusive, then Capcom and Nintendo could save on production costs. But still, we won't know if the game is popular or not over here until it launches.
