Gotta be honest. No Random Encounters really strikes me as an improvement to the series. I hope the spawn mechanics are well thought out with regards to rarity and re-spawns. It would be really nice to have a new Main Line Pokemon where you actually have to hunt for Pokemon instead of Spin in a Circle and Hope for a RNG Pop. Random encounter battles have never been fun in Pokemon, but for no random battles to work, they are going to need to make the Trainer Battle repeatable or something.
Nintendo tried not doing this with Mario and the Game Flopped.
Mobile Gamers will only play games that Nickle and Dime them.
That said,
"Problem is, these loot boxes don't just unlock them item, but provide stamps you'll need to use to eventually purchase it. Which means you'll essentially need to sink a large sum of money into Pocket Camp to be within a chance of getting the new gear you really want."
This doesn't really make sense. Are you saying it is bad that when you open a loot box and don't get the Item you want, you acquire a secondary currency that means you will definitely get it eventually? How is that a negative?
@Incarta There is a very very Large Gap between Everything Spawning outside your house and Nothing Spawning anywhere near your house. It's fine to make people wander to find rare Pokemon. It not okay to make the game unplayable. You should be able to catch Common Pokemon while taking the dog for a walk.
In the three areas I have Lived in the Past 2 years, none of which are particularly sparsely populated, it was/is not possible to Play Pokemon Go without, a) Driving Across Town or just driving around in general, b) Walking more than a mile between spinner or c) Loitering in a Mall or Shopping Plaza
It does not makes sense to build a Smartphone Game that half the Population cannot play without dedicating hours of their life to a single play session. They really need to stop spawning creatures almost exclusively at Pokestops and Start Spawning them everywhere.
The Switch hardware Sale will be fine. So long as this isn't such an easy hack that a computer illiterate person can do it, Software Sales will be fine too.
The only time Software Piracy really has an impact is when the System is completely Open. I believe only one console has ever made that mistake.
This could have been a great game. The Combat is hectic and challenging enough to keep you on your toes, but its so linear and completely devoid of puzzles. I am absolutely stunned that the folks that made Trine made this game and did not put a single puzzle in the game. The linearity could be forgiven if there were puzzles to be solved. The other huge omission is loot. This is a Gauntlet Style top down dungeon crawl and there is no loot. There is no reward for killing anything or breaking anything. 4/5 Quills in every level are just on the path as you walk and the chests are more or less useless. This game needs a patch. It is mechanically solid and artistically beautiful, but it is really lacking in the basics of its genre.
I still don't understand why Sega insist on sticking with this fundamentally broken Corridor Running design. You want a good 3D Sonic Game, easy.
Step One: Design a 100u x 100u square
Step Two: Add 3 to 5 paths that can be run from the top of the square to the bottom and vice versa. Include jumps loops springs, whatever, just be sure you can run each path without stopping.
Step 3: Do the same thing you did in Step Two, but Left to Right and vice versa. Ensure Paths visibly weave with Step Two Paths
Step 4: Create one Path diagonally across the square from Top Left to Bottom Right and one Path diagonally from Top Right to Bottom Left
Step 5: Repeat Steps One through Four a Hundred Time
Step 6: Place One Hundred Square in 10x10 Grid
Step 7: Diversify Environmental Art
Step 8: Repeat Steps Five through Seven two more times
Step 9: Stack Three 10x10 Grids on Top of One Another
Step 10: Add Enemies, Obstacles and Collectibles.
There you have it. Open World 3D Sonic in 10 Steps. Stop using corridors...
But if they put Star Wars Battlefront II on Switch I'll never touch my Xbox again... Seriously, it's the only game left for me to justify owning a Second Console...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nah, 60 fps only matters to people have phenomenally bad reaction times or just really really want it to matter to them.
Anyone who tells you any game is less good because it is not 60 fps is a liar. A straight up liar. Frame rate cannot have an impact on the quality of a game unless it is different for every player. All that matters is that it is stable. If frame rate is the reason you can't play a game, it's not the frame rate, you just suck.
@WhoaManWtF This game is still good as a Single Player, but it is Optimal for 2 Players. 3 and 4 Player games are fun, but they are significantly easier than 2 Player.
@Metroplex360 I own it. It would be a pretty good game if the Controls and Menus were a bit better. The "quest" system could use a little work too. It's definitely not unplayable, it just works against itself a bit too much.
Oh man, I'm so happy right now. That game is really weirdly addicting, but its so hard to play when you can't read it. I never thought this would come west.
I dunno why people are having such a fit over this. I'm just happy it's not a 50-100GB install like Xbox/PS. The 5GB Save file is probably because of something like the Game builds Custom Custscenes using your Avatar and its faster to save them in solid state than it is to render them in real time. Also possible, any customizable texture would need to be saved in 1080+ to pull off those graphics.
@Yorumi Once again, you are not wrong, but at a certain point it becomes a very simple choice, do something or do nothing. Nearly every action that has ever been taken with the intent to create equality has been by definition Racist or Sexist or Bigoted. The entire concept of imposing equality is fundamentally flawed in this regard. Unfortunately, the option of doing nothing is a guaranteed path to not solving the problem and in most cases, makes it worse.
Human beings are inherently selfish. The emotions many argue are the core of our humanity make it impossible to look at otherwise simple issues without the use of a perception that is inevitably bias toward our own benefit. To guard against the abuse of these perceptions, we must make policy that nullifies the negative perspectives which would otherwise generate more divisiveness and animosity. The colloquial being the bigger man approach. It is far easier to given assurances to the disenfranchised and create self-imposed unfairness for empowered than to create a true balance of power, a practical impossibility.
@Yorumi That is going to be true until the end of time. We talk about race, sex and gender in terms of "minorities" and "majorities", but these are highly inappropriate terms when you actually look at the issue at play. It has nothing to do with how many people get to do a certain thing. It is the perception that one group, currently Straight White Men, have all the power and get to make all the decisions. Calling it racist, sexist or bigoted is the knee-jerk reaction to the perception of a lack of power. These things exist, but in most cases they are not the real factor at play.
All that said, it is incumbent upon the empowered to overcompensate for the disenfranchised to create balance. The empowered must give extra to ensure that when the time comes that power changes hands, they are not subjected to the same perceived injustices that were present on their watch.
@Rafx It doesn't matter if there is an agenda. This is a PR problem. Melee is one of the most visible eSports in the world. When they do dumb things like this it hurts the entire industry. It doesn't matter if they meant to do it or not.
I really don't understand why people still reply to @SLIGEACH_EIRE. He's not even a real troll. He's a Nintendo Fanboy who like to annoy people. No one who spends that much time on Nintendo Life and Submits that many leads for publication doesn't own and love a Nintendo Switch.
As for the Shovelware, Realms of Arkania probably should have been a good game. Tactical RPG with First Person Exploration should have been a home run on the tactical scene, they failed. World Racing could be fine. The rest of them are well outside of my wheel house. I hate Pure Simulation games.
@Benjamin I don't think they did anything wrong. I don't even think it's a very serious issue at all. It's just the kind of dumb mistake they should not have put themselves in. They should have known that they needed to ask 10 women to join or it would have turned in to a thing.
The actual story here is that the Melee Rules committee is being populated by the reigning champions of Melee. Essentially giving them the power to shift the rules in a way that keeps them on top. Not saying they will, but they could.
Rules Committees should not be populated exclusively by one segment of a population, but it's far more important to ensure that outside perspectives are present to counter balance any misguided ideas that could restrict new entrants into the competitive scene. If you are the World Champion, you are going to fight tooth and nail to block any rule that compromises your supremacy in game.
@JHDK "One of the committee leaders, Matthew Zaborowski, tweeted that two women were actually offered roles but declined to join. "
Two women were offered a spot on a 25 member panel and said no so they just decided to not ask any more?
I'm not big on the Social Justice for the sake of Social Justice, but you don't come out and publicly say you did not even try to get women on the panel and not expect some level of push back.
Good game. Has a lot of interesting Mechanics. Hope they make a sequel that builds on the Systems in this game, even if they don't keep the Character/World/Story.
Nintendo will definitely appeal to prevent a precedent and because they probably didn't actually lose the legal fight. These kind of lawsuits are always lost by foreign companies in the US because the people who choose the winner have no idea what the actual law is and just votes against the foreigners. A panel of Judges, on appeal, will over turn this is a heartbeat because it's not a legitimate lawsuit, just a patent troll.
A lot of people seem to be quite skeptical of their reasoning for this bug, but honestly it kind of makes sense. The Nintendo Switch is a Tablet, so like any other tablet or smart phone it more than likely does not release all of its RAM freely. Most Smartphones have an option to do this manual in the Settings, but you can also force it to happen by turning the device off and on again. It is very possible that Nintendo's OS does not currently account for this issue and Troll and I does not have a built in work around.
There are two other Major Bugs I have seen that get resolved by turning the System off and on again.
Repeated Network Connection Error in Splatoon.

All three of these issue could be cause my the same System Level Memory Bug.
