One of the new things we learnt about Splatoon 2 during today's Nintendo Direct was the introduction of a co-op League Battle mode, which sounds like a fun addition to put the online features and online app to work.
Within the new League Battle mode you can form a team with friends and fight alongside them to battle your way to the top of the charts in a series of 4v4 battles, which can last up to 2 hours (it also stops when stages rotate).
You can enlist help from a friend to create a pair and get matched with another pair, or even connect with 3 of your friends to form your squid team quartet.
You can play this mode as a Ranked Battle and if you have the skills you will be awarded with a medal within the game.
How cool is that?

All this stuff is making me glad I'm buying this
Hahaha online matches that last up to 2 hours?
Nope, my conection is gonna be interrupted halfway or even before...
Pass. Splatoon 1.5
@kotag
Really? I couldn't even tell you how many hours I sunk into the first game, and I rarely had an issue with disconnection. That said, I play Overwatch a lot too, and even that drops in mid-match sometimes.
If each Ranked Battle mode has its own rank, then why don't they have their own rotations?
I still haven't understood if you are able to play the game Splitscreen multiplayer for online matches. Can you or not, anybody knows?
@MoonKnight7 third world country pal.
May be the reason, or not.

I'm gonna live and die for this game... And so's my squid team!
@kotag
Fair enough.
@kotag I don't think the match lasts 2 hours. I think it counts all your matches in a 2 hour period and then awards points.
I would just like to point out...
The pyramid looks like candy corn.
@marnelljm
Yeah, Splatoon 2 is largely more of the same, but what's wrong with that? I'm of the boat that sequels don't always need to be that innovative beyond their predecessors, unless the developers come up with something they believe will bring new life to the franchise. Otherwise, we end up with games like Sticker Star, and everyone wishes they had just stuck with the original formula.
In a big, single-player-focused game like Super Mario Odyssey, people naturally expect innovation, and we see that with Mario's new "capture" ability and the crazy new worlds. But in a game like Splatoon, I'm honestly not sure what they can really do to make it that different without ruining the established formula.
Another new game mode or two would be nice, but it's not necessary for me. I love all the returning Battle Modes in MK8 DX, but I would argue the new one—Renegade Roundup—is easily the worst, in my opinion, and I would rather it not be in the rotation. The point being, new isn't always better, and I'd rather stick with the fun modes we have than add something new to the shuffle just for the sake of being new, if the end result is something unenjoyable.
Sorry this reply is so long, but it's a thought that's been on my mind for a while now, especially when I see comments like these about Splatoon 2 not being a real sequel...and there are a LOT of them! (In fact, I might start a thread about this subject, if there isn't already one.) Then again, I'm one of the few people who still really likes the New Super Mario Bros. games, so maybe my opinion just stinks.
I understand Splatoon 2 isn't for everyone, but I for one can't wait! And I wasn't even the biggest fan of the first game, but the present changes like the graphical overhaul really make a difference to me.
Did they say that you can't play Salmon Run whenever you want?
@SethADrekin If that's the case, that would be far better.
@Not_Soos If the graphics looked at least a little better, that'd be enough, but not even that. It looks exactly the same as Splatoon 1.
"One of the new things we learnt about Splatoon 2 during today's Nintendo Direct"
@Dazza: That's just wrong. We already knew about this over a week ago.
@Melkac Don't trust Youtube's compression. The graphics look considerably better. Did you play the Testfire in March? It was immediately superior looking, and it was only 720p back then, it's been upped to 1080p since. It's an online shooter with new modes, new weapons, new gear/stats, and updated graphics. Like every other online shooter's annual sequels for the past 15 years.
@marnelljm are you kidding?
Do you need the app to play matches with friends online?
@shani maybe I should rephrase to "one of the things I learnt..."
@Dazza
No problem (I hope my comment didn't come off too harsh), I was just surprised when I read that.
And of course the Nintendo Direct was still very insightful and offered lots of new information!
That's a lot of great new characters!
B-But none of my friends own a Switch! And they might not get one until next Christmas!
Begs hands asking for Switch friends... Switch friend codes anyone?
I love how people get so offended at my opinion of the game. If you feel it's worth $60 for a copy-paste of the first game then by all means go for it? Trust me I'm not alone regarding my opinion.
