Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC - What Would You Have Liked To See?

JimmyFleck

I have a million ideas about what I’d LIKE to see for DLC, but the main thing I’ve been clamoring for in BOTW and TOTK is music! Zelda has almost 40 years of music to tap into and it’s been disregarded for so much of these 2 games. I know it’s a whole different sound design and all, but there just feels like so much potential that’s missed musically in a series that is renowned for it. The beautiful hints of tunes in TOTK just makes me want more of it.

And where is Kass? He was one of my favorite characters from BOTW.

Re: Poll: Breath Of The Wild Vs. Tears Of The Kingdom - Which Final Zelda Trailer Was Better?

JimmyFleck

Both are fantastic trailers, but BOTW is far superior. And is still the best videogame trailer of all time. That can be said that after playing the game the BOTW trailer a till only scratches the surface of all the experiences you’ll have in the game. Keeping in mind that it was meant to be a hype trailer as we already knew quite a lot about the game.
It’s the opposite for TOTK. The game launches in a few weeks and, even after this trailer, we still know so little about it. We just got a taste of what Nintendo has been holding back and can’t wait to see more. And we know there’s a LOT more to see and discover. The game may ultimately be better than BOTW, but the trailer isn’t.

Re: Talking Point: Should Link Have Voice Acting In The Next Zelda Game?

JimmyFleck

While I don’t think a voice is necessary, Nintendo could always use one of the voice selector options that so many games use as so the player could choose the voice they want. Then the player is still Link. My biggest question for a voiced Link is if they’d find different actors to portray different Links. This could be jarring, or worse, one actor could be amazing while another might be terrible.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The New Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer?

JimmyFleck

Watched the presentation and I still feel like we didn’t learn anything about the game. And I like that as I don’t want too many spoilers. This is probably the last thing about the game I’ll watch until launch. However, I was disappointed in just how much it looked like Breath of the Wild. I’m sure there will be tons of content and I’ll be blown away by others creativity…but for some reason, seeing the same dragon from BotW flying in the background really let me down. The wonder they brought upon discovering them previously was almost unmatched. Seeing them again is boring. Hearing the same music while riding the horse is disappointing as well.

Re: Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

JimmyFleck

I don’t play many demos. But I will say that the best I personally ever played was for Bayonetta 2 on the WiiU. I was on the fence about the game, hadn’t played the first, and figured I’d check it out after the epic E3 trailer. I must’ve played that demo 100 times and easily 100 times more in the actual game. The demo was mind-blowing and showed us what we were in store for later on. Never got such a rush from an opening of a game before or since.

Re: Feature: Samus' Suits, Ranked - Every Metroid Box Art Suit Design, From Worst To Best

JimmyFleck

I voted Dread as seeing the suit and playing the game, that suit is the only one that clearly makes Samus look like a woman. I get that at the beginning of the series we were “tricked” by our assumptions that the character was a man and the design probably came from that idea, but all these years later it’s great to recognize her as a woman whether she’s in her Zero Suit or not.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime Remastered?

JimmyFleck

They took an already flawless game and made it even better! Brighter colors, (especially on an OLED), better signposting, smoother gameplay, and weapons that actually feel “punchier” than they have in the past. There are a few areas they could have pushed further…sound and camera movements in cutscenes perhaps…but then things may have started getting further away from the original.
I haven’t played the original in a while, and had actually forgotten how slow the story drips out and is told to the player. It’s brilliant how the mystery keeps deepening and deepening after that set-up on the frigate over Tallon IV.

Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?

JimmyFleck

I’ve had way too many frustrating experiences with games over the years. And I love a good challenge, so that’s not it…my main frustrations revolve around the “why?” of some games. I get frustrated when you get a new power/item/skill/whatever (usually in a metroidvania) and then are IMMEDIATELY tasked with having it mastered before you can exit the area where you got it. No chance to really learn about it.
I also get frustrated when games are just too long for what they are and overstay their welcome. Not every game needs to be a 50+ hour epic. People have complained about Metroid Dread’s playtime, but it was perfect for what it was and didn’t slog on. Too many games just drag and are for no real reason. Give me Untitled Goose Game and Gato Roboto all day for achieving what they set out to do and wrapping up.

As far as recent gaming frustrations…collecting chest pieces in Bayonetta 3. Zero fun. Bailed on most of them.

Re: "We Could Make Nine Of Them" - Hideki Kamiya Doesn't Think Bayonetta Will End

JimmyFleck

I’m one of those who is completely torn on Bayonetta 3. Performance issues aside, I really didn’t care for the weapons/upgrade system. I miss being able to mix and match different weapons for hand and feet, then switch setups on the fly while fighting. Only getting one weapon set per demon seems like a step backwards. And though I don’t think Platinum will continue this series without Demon Slaves, I hope they do. The whole concept slowed down the game and really took away a lot of the spectacle and intimacy of the combat in the previous games. Though I really likes the wink slaves. That could be a fun mechanic to grow. That being said, it’s a good action game. Still one of the best out there. Not a 10, but a solid 8 from me.

Re: Hands On: The Witch Is Back - Bayonetta 3 Is Real, And We've Played It

JimmyFleck

It’s funny that people are talking about the seemingly “dull” color palette when the entire first game was drab as could be. Bayo 2 was vibrant and colorful, for sure, and nothing we’ve seen so far with the third one indicates to me that it won’t be just as colorful and stylish. Go back and play the beginning of Bayo 2 and pay attention to how drastically the environment changes in a measly 10 minute span. I’m sure number 3 will be filled with jaw dropping moments and visuals.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker

JimmyFleck

@KingMike Yes, that’s right, but I recall the advertising being lead by the Ocarina of Time bonus. Like “get the Ocarina of Time and The never released Ocarina of Time Master quest…when you pre-order wind waker…” As the main feature was the ports and not the new game. Know what I’m saying? I could be wrong, but that was my perception at the time. Or maybe I was just more excited for the ports back then.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker

JimmyFleck

It’s funny…this box art taken completely out of context of the environment the game was released into is really difficult to judge all these years later. At the time, the marketing around the game was filled with apprehension and uncertainty. A big push in NA was the inclusion of an Ocarina of Time AND the Master Quest port to Gamecube. I recall these being highlighted more than Wind Waker. I think all these box arts tried to NOT remind people of the game’s style but more to the “It’s the Zelda you know” concept.

The beautiful WiiU cover is a testament to how well the game and its style have aged and how wonderfully unique it is.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Has Been Updated On Switch

JimmyFleck

@roy130390 oooooh….maybe? But it’s very frequent. I’ll pay closer attention when we play tomorrow. All of us are confused by it, even my son who plays as Raph. So it seemed disconnected and random. He’s 13 and would be able to tell us if it was his button press. Thank you.

I’ve also experienced that frozen in mid air glitch that others are talking about.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge Has Been Updated On Switch

JimmyFleck

Me and my kids love this game, but we do get one audio glitch that is annoying so far. The phrase “I am one tired turtle” plays every few seconds regardless of what is happening on screen. It’s happened on multiple play throughs and sounds like, maybe, Leonardo’s voice. It’s tough to tell though cuz it’s disconnected from all the mayhem happening on screen. Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Fantastic Metroid Dread Trailer Shows Off Frantic Gameplay And A New-Look Kraid

JimmyFleck

Fantastic trailer! Right up there with the BotW Switch trailer as a masterpiece.
Couple of things stood out to me…Samus’ attitude and emotion is conveyed with no dialog. Charging her beam by “Kraid” as he’s restrained…overwhelmed at the end and reaching out her hand, almost asking for mercy or saying “enough, I can’t take this anymore”. We’ve haven’t seen Samus truly overpowered like that since Super.
Finally, her eyes at the end…to me (and I’m probably way wrong here) it looks like when they reopen, they’re child’s eyes…bigger, rounder…and maybe it’s a Chozo POV that in that moment recognizes Samus as the child they raised all those years ago and it relents in its attack, granting Samus her new suit that’s in all the artwork. I dunno. Fun speculating though.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 11.0.0 Update Arrives Later Today

JimmyFleck

@The_Pixel_King You’re welcome. I can sympathize...I loved everything about Smash...the characters, the stages, the music, the trophies, the chaos of it, I loved everything it had to offer, but was constantly puzzled as to why I was so bad at it. I’ve been playing it since the beginning, and I just topped out at a very low skill level until Ultimate. I’ve been getting progressively better at it and some of it was just seeing the enormous roster and saying “I’ll never know how to use all of them, so I’ll pick 3”. Then a lot of the techniques with those three translated throughout the roster and I found more characters to use and have fun with.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 11.0.0 Update Arrives Later Today

JimmyFleck

@The_Pixel_King I was the same way...love Smash but was terrible at it. Still had tons of fun with it though. There are a bunch of books or online guides and videos on YouTube. Check Amazon...I got the official guide and it helped a ton though it doesn’t now contain any of the DLC characters. Regardless, pick a character or 2 and learn their basic moves. Then move on to a totally different character and try them out. Everyone CONTROLS, for the most part, the same, but the moves and combos are different. Once you get a feel for the flow of the game, you’ll feel the differences between characters and connect with someone’s move set.

Re: Feature: Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 10 Years Of Nintendo's Straightest, Greatest Sequel

JimmyFleck

Galaxy 2 is by far my favorite 3D Mario game. I loved the original, and would have been happy with “more of the same” but it blew me away and expanded on so much of what I loved from the first. I think this feature nails it though when it mentions hive trim and streamlined Galaxy 2 is. There’s nothing bloated about it. For me, it was the first, maybe only, game I’ve ever played where I felt there wasn’t a single wasted frame of animation.
