Last week, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made a return in their new video game outing Shredder's Revenge. While most players are probably having a blast in the game, there have been a small number of issues popping up here and there.
Dotemu and Tribute Games appear to have the situation under control - rolling out a new patch that addresses some of the issues reported by players so far. Once again, it's all minor stuff, but if you haven't already booted up the game, be ready to install Version 1.0.2 next time you launch it on your Nintendo Switch.
Here are the patch notes in full via the game's official Discord server (thanks, Nintendo Everything):
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge - Version 1.0.2 (June 22nd, 2022)
- Fixed random crashes that occurred at the end of the stages.
- Improved online stability when droping in and out.
- Potential improvement for the “10 min boot” issue faced by some users.
- Fixed minor issue when posting score in Arcade leaderboards.
If you haven't already played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, what are you waiting for? We labelled it the best turtles beat 'em up ever made - awarding it an "excellent" nine out of ten stars.

It's so good. Singleplayer, multiplayer, it's all so fun. I haven't personally experienced any bugs.
@Mikmoomamimocki
I had a single end of level crash after several hours. When I booted back up, it still had my info saved through that level!
This really is a solid game.
I'm soooooo tempted to buy this digitally, but its only a few weeks til my physical copy comes
[edit] July 29 UK release date for those wondering!
As a beat'em up and turtles fan, this game is really appreciated. I already invested dozens of hours on it and can't get enough.
Me and my kids love this game, but we do get one audio glitch that is annoying so far. The phrase “I am one tired turtle” plays every few seconds regardless of what is happening on screen. It’s happened on multiple play throughs and sounds like, maybe, Leonardo’s voice. It’s tough to tell though cuz it’s disconnected from all the mayhem happening on screen. Anyone else have this issue?
The only thing I've had is that on occasion, one of my characters will get stuck in midair for around 5 to 10 seconds. Usually when they're only an inch off the ground. Has anyone had this happen. It's happened to me several times.
This is great the way Sonic Mania is great. It's how you REMEMBER all those great old games.
@GregamanX I’ve had this happen to me I think in the sewer level. When I jump or walk off the ledge to the lower level, I float stuck in the falling animation. Jamming on the buttons seems to release me but I’m not 100% certain.
@GregamanX Yes, I experienced this on my Splinter playthrough. Frozen jump kicks close to the ground. It wasn't game breaking but it was a little annoying.
@JimmyFleck I think that's Raphael's phrase. Could it be that one person is constantly pressing the special attack button (X) without energy? The character will say that over and over if he can't make the attack.
Fantastic game that is so easy to get into. So far all my online multiplayer games have been without problems, and just plain fun.
@roy130390 oooooh….maybe? But it’s very frequent. I’ll pay closer attention when we play tomorrow. All of us are confused by it, even my son who plays as Raph. So it seemed disconnected and random. He’s 13 and would be able to tell us if it was his button press. Thank you.
I’ve also experienced that frozen in mid air glitch that others are talking about.
@JimmyFleck No problem! You probably already know this, but the taunt (R) is another good way to charge the special attacks as long as it isn't interrupted. there's even a brief sound and animation of the character glowing when the energy bar is charged. In the case of Rafael, his taunt is to laugh. Have a great time playing!
@PBandSmelly You can exit the map with the B button without having to enter a stage. That way you go directly to the "select your hero" menu and you don't have to see the tutorial again.
I hope they fixed arcade mode. My buddy and I beat it without using continues and got a few other awards. Then when we started the game back up the next day, the achievements were gone.
Bought it, it's fun, probably scored too high as it's very short and it's repetitive, but it's fun. We did have it crash, so the patch is great.
Honestly Switch Sports is dramatically better and I'm sure the family will be playing that long after we've forgotten TMNT.
This is fantastic, Tribute Games are now officially on my list of great devs for Switch right behind WayForward, Shin'en, Panic Button, Saber Interactive, Moon Studios, NightDive Studios, Headcannon, Yacht Club Games, Shiver Games, PlatinumGames, Monolith Soft, Arc System Works, Falcom, NIS, and Studio MDHR.
@cyrus_zuo If you don't mind, what is your opinion of Switch Sports? Because I thought the TMNT game is awesome, but I don't have Switch Sports to compare. I played the Wii version and loved it (boxing ftw), but I've been holding buying this one until I can try it out and I'm gathering all the opinions that I can hehe.
while i´m here writing, my wife is playing this game right now. So much fun!!! Incredible multiplayer coop. The nice thng about the game is that you compete the same time you coop. You fight for the cumulative stats: points (number of kills)..stage after stage...(history mode). I like it so much!
You can play with 4..5..6..players a complete history mode and compete for kills till the end! Love it!
Can you disable the voice acting?
@JimmyFleck i believe the tired turtle line comes up if you try to perform a special attack without the special bar being filled up
@BloodNinja I had the same concern about the voices, among a few other things before I go ahead and purchase it. I saw videos showing the options screen and there is a setting for voice volume, so that should take care of it.
How is the lag online?
@GregamanX happens on ps4 too. Had it a few times when dropping off a ledge or jumping close to the roof at the start of the 2nd lvl. Usually stuck until i get hit out of the air.
I wish there was a way to tell what difficulty people are playing on when joining an online lvl in Story mode and/or joining an online session of Arcade mode. Also I wish there was a ‘restart the level option’ in the pause menu for a lvl instead of exiting to the map to start the lvl from the beginning. Other than those I’m having a blast with this game
We could do with a new Golden Axe that's as lovingly made as Streets of Rage 4 or Shredder's Revenge.
@GregamanX It seems to have to do with attacking midair while moving from a higher elevation to a lower, like moving off a ledge in the sewer or subway. It’s happened to me a handful of times.
@samuelvictor Yeah I've been playing single player on GamePass, but have my physical copy ordered for Switch, and looking forward to trying put multiplayer when I do. Only minor issue is that Live A Live is out the week before...
The article says, "If you haven't already played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, what are you waiting for?"
Well, I will tell you. Waiting for my physical copy from Limited Run Games. Since I am getting it from Limited Run Games, I will probably receive the game in March or April 2023! T_T They take forever to send out stuff. T__T
After all the online nonsense that has been happening with Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony lately where players could not play their digitally purchased games cuz 'their servers didn't feel like working' or cuz 'reasons', I will wait it out for the physical Turtle's game to avoid all that... even if its gonna be a year or whatever.
I know stores like Target, Best Buy will have the game in July or August but Limited Run Games have extras coming with the regular physical game, [not the HUGE collector's edition], that those stores won't have.
@roy130390 @Skoffo Now I’m thinking that my 13 year old was just being a jerk and just saying “I don’t know where that sound is coming from” as we were all annoyed by it. 😂 That makes the most sense.
I enjoyed it but was seriously taxed by all the glitches.
Game crash error, people getting stuck, invisable starts and framerate death.
If they could get rid of all these and throw in a few extra modes as it's very short ie a boss rush and like endless hoard endurance mode, maybe a vs mode
@WindWakerLink I'm still waiting for my physical copy of KOTOR from LRG. My copy of Treasures of the Aegean has been ready to go for a couple of months but I ordered it with KOTOR to save on shipping...
@JeanPaul Switch Sports is a lot of fun online, particularly if you have someone going online with you from your same console (volleyball and tennis really shine, but aren't nearly as fun solo).
Offline the game is ok, alright for a group, but somewhat limited.
@sdelfin Oh nice, thank you! I might actually give it a go in that case.

@samuelvictor Huh? Everywhere I look says August 29th...🤔
@JimmyFleck I'm not familiar with the Switch version, but is it possible it's a button-mapping issue? When in doubt, you could always turn down the voices in the sound options. Speaking only for myself, voices get tiresome after a while if they're a bit too frequent in such games.
My friend couldn't even boot up the game at all without deleting his WiFi connection settings from the Switch. Apart from that he's had a blast with it but what a weird issue.
@Bizzyb Interesting... I ordered from https://www.coolshop.co.uk/product/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-shredders-revenge/23BU6C/ and the release date quoted is July 29. Cowabunga Collection is Sept 30 from the same site. Maybe the date is different depending on your region, or which edition you are getting?
@cyrus_zuo happy to hear that online is so fun, definitely will add it to my games, thanks!
@sdelfin @Skoffo @roy130390 Well…there you have it…I confronted my 13 year old about it and he fessed up to trolling us with the sound. 😂
@JimmyFleck At least you know. I always hated that stuff, even when I was that age. I was never into that. As I said, you have the ability to lower the voice-over volume as a counter punch. That was something I wanted to make sure was available before buying because that could get annoying quick, even with normal play.
@samuelvictor Ahh ok...yea I'm in the U.S.
It really sucks how they make us physical owners wait to play it 😕
@Bizzyb Yeah the US has a different distributor. Sorry to hear you have to wait longer. Its super frustrating knowing the game is out and being really hyped for it, but having to wait. At least its coming sooner than many of the Limited Run games, which I've heard of people waiting years for, apparantly. I'm glad they are doing a proper "normal" retail release that isn't limited.
@JimmyFleck Haha good to know that it's solved! The little guy almost got away with it 😆
OK cool. Hope they fix the floating glitch.
@BloodNinja we are finally chipping away at you to finally try it, huh 💁🏻♂️
@Magrane Hahahah, yes
Hopefully they fix the bad grammar. "Defeat 1 enemies by using traps"
@JimmyFleck don't worry I had the same issue with my 4yo and I figured that out when I saw him mashing buttons senslessly so yes it's our kids that need a patch
@BloodNinja
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA APPROVED?
@Skoffo I could agree with that…but at least yours was doing it unknowingly. 😂
I wouldn’t mind a “retry level” option if I goof up and want to quickly restart without going back to map and all that jazz.
@Franklin That has a really nice ring to it lmfao. But I’m a human, so I can’t claim it. Gotta let an official turtle who also happens to be a ninja that loves video games take it!
NINJA APPROVED <3
Hope the new patch makes it to the physical.
I'm sure there are a ton of variables to take into account, but I'm hoping the gap between digital and physical launch is to allow for early updates to be included. Always a bug-bear (pun intended!) of mine when the version on the cart has some issues.
no crt filter = ruined pixelart
@Magrane So, my birthday was on Monday, and I checked in with Steam today and one of my friends gifted me TMNT! So I turned off the voices and gave it a go today and while it lacks the magic of TMNT 4, it’s combat is very, very fun! Not one of my top games, but it’s certainly a good one! I wish I could turn off the challenge nags, though. Maybe an update will address it.
