Remember when Nintendo revealed the Switch, and showed off a cool car mount which would allow passengers to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on road trips? Fast forward to 2019, and we're still waiting.
Given that Nintendo appears to have had second thoughts about the product, we'll have to make do with this third-party alternative from accessory maker Olixar.
Priced at just £5.99 in Mobile Fun's Black Friday sale, it clips onto the headrest section of the seat in front, giving you the option to play hands-free (kinda) while you're on the move.

I need one that goes over the steering wheel.
This is an incredibly tenuous 'article' just made so Nintendo Life can benefit from an affiliate link. So, same old same old really.
@Emob
But how would you hold the joy cons? Unless you can steer with your feet? Oh! There we go! PROBLEM SOLVED.
Btw, there are two problems i concerned by playing video games inside the car.
1. It will be very dangerous if put in the front as it will distract the driver to keep their focus during driving.
2. You may get nauseous after several minutes playing video games in the car
For this I would get a Actual portable LCD TV that powers off A/C adapter and hookup the HDMI and that will give you a bigger playing screen. That is the setup I would like to have.
Did you really write 5 sentences to make money on an affiliate link?
Like, seriously, this is what you count as an article these days?
What happened to you guys? I know affiliate links help the site, and it's 100% fine to use them, but seriously? This is just selling out.
I mean, come on, this ONE comment already has more substance than anything you wrote here. This is just sad.
Thanks for posting this 'article' and a link directly to the product.
Otherwise, I would have no idea about this product being available.
I'm not going to buy one as I don't need it, however.
@Anti-Matter In Canada you would lose your licence if they caught you doing that including texting now.
This is fantastic and the price is too. Good find
@YourGoodFriendly do you pay to visit the site and the content they give you? I suspect not. Ill take an affiliate article now and then for the privilege of reading.
As for the item, spot on. Something I didn't know I needed till now.
@Mdhoover The site uses ads. Also, again, I am okay with affiliate links. This is not an article, it's a commercial, and it should be criticized for being so low quality.
"Privilege of reading" THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF CLICKS. They have the privilege of an audience, don't act like this is some kind of service they are doing out of kindess.
Please actually try making sense next time.
@YourGoodFriendly try reading again pal, what I said makes sense.
Put it behind a paywall. As an article it's fine by me.
(Language!)
@Mdhoover again, they make money off of readers. They make money on game affiliate links. Because of this, low quality commercials like this have no excuse.
It's not an article. It's just "this product exists. Buy it."
Just because something has no paywall, that doesn't mean it has to be so terrible.
Your logic is flawed.
@YourGoodFriendly my logic is flawed? Your opinion is subjective.
Vote with your web browser pal.
@Mdhoover Why does me paying matter or not? That argument would only make sense if they HAD to do this for money. They don't. It would take like 5 minutes to write an article of substance.
And that's not an opinion, the article legitimately is "Here's a product, buy it".
There is not much you can say in literally 5 sentences. It's a commercial. If you legitimately think this is acceptable as a NEWS article, I would suggest limiting yourself to Nintendo's official Amazon page, as then you'd have many "articles" to read all the time.
This is a news site. I want news. Ads are okay. Affiliate links are okay. These are acceptable because I can still read news. This? This ain't an article.
@YourGoodFriendly let it go mate, I have.
I can't wait to put my switch in my new headrest mount. This s*** beats Xmas all day long.
If you want news go read the daily mail. This is a Nintendo site, that is a (3rd party) Nintendo product. Thus relevant. I didn't once suggest it was a news article my pedigree chum, you seem to be the one obsessed with this point.
I'm not bent out of shape about it, but I think instead of the "News" tag, they should add a "Sponsored" or "Affiliate" tag for stuff like this.
@Emob Probably illegal in most places.
Though I do recall James Rolfe and his friend Mike doing a parody/PSA video about playing a Wii in a car.
Incredible accessory, abusively cheap!
I don't get the whole fighting over small articles and affiliate links. Yeah, the site makes money off them, makes money from our clicks, but it is 100% free to read or not read. I myself skip a lot of articles that just don't sound like I will enjoy. Just skip it
Whether this is news or a commercial, I don't really care. But honestly, for a handheld device, this seems almost useless. They should have at least gotten a picture of two passengers playing Mario Party or Kart together. If you were going to play Odyssey or BOTW, why wouldn't you just hold the system in your hand?
Why hasn't Nintendo acknowledged this yet?
But actually, come to think of it, this peripheral was probably just to promote the Switch's two-player experience. Almost (Not everyone owns a Switch) everyone has one, but you can just bring two Switches together for local multiplayer. There, problem solved.
Oh good, a fresh way for drivers to be negligent and wipe me out on my motorcycle.
@TheFox To be fair, there are a decent amount of applications that would make this far from "useless". If you on a long car ride and you want to watch Hulu on your Switch instead of your phone, as well as be able to do so without having to hold it in your hand for hours at a time, you can. If you were wanting to play with a Pro controller in the car, with this you could do that too.
@Anti-Matter Your comments really baffle me, you know.
@graysoncharles heh. You again? Stalker.
@Mdhoover
He’s not wrong, admit it .
It’s pretty useless product if games can already be played in handheld mode.
It’s just a click bait article for a redundant product, enjoy your head mounted neck strainer.
@Emob Jokes aside, I can confirm that a switch screen without controllers on the side wedges just perfectly in place on the top part of a Ford Escape's steering wheel for the purposes of gaming, without need of a mount. Helps pass the time while waiting to pick up family members.
I find myself constantly criticizing articles on NintendoLife for being irrelevant, but this actually is relevant.
