Re: Kirby Is Officially A BAFTA Winner, Takes Home Best Family Game

JakedaArbok

One thing that I love about Forgotten Land is that it kept everything that made Kirby good in the first place. Usually, when you make such a leap in hardware, you leave so many fans out in the cold. BOTW is a big example of this, but I even hear it with open-world versus course-clear Marios. But I have heard no one complain about this game that was already a Kirby fan. It managed to be a grand, sweeping adventure with some big additions while still being faithful to Kirby’s roots.

Re: Looks Like Poochy Might Be Coming To Mario Kart Tour

JakedaArbok

This makes me even more sad than when cool characters came to the loot boxes… at least then, I had a chance of pulling them, now, I’m either going to have to fork over real world money or grind ridiculously for them...

I may be one of the few people that actually preferred the loot box system, but I do understand while it had to go.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 25th)

I’ve finally decided to give Metroid Fusion a go, and I think I finally get Metroid. I don’t really like the exploration part of most Metroidvanias, but this game boils it down to a linear progression, with just a bit of exploration, and it finally made me see how fun it could be.
Otherwise, me and my brother just started the extra mode of Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, and it is suitably difficult.

Re: Review: Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe - A Suitably Dreamy Encore For One Of Kirby's Best

JakedaArbok

As someone that’s grinded on the Star Allies boss rush, I don’t think that extra difficulty would make a Kirby game more fun. They’re great games where I can just turn off my brain and smile at the happy-go-lucky worlds. If that’s not your thing, then fine. But challenge isn’t really Kirby’s thing either, at least unless you’re looking for it in the optional modes, and Kirby games usually deliver on that front.
As for this game, the demo had me hooked, and I’m picking this up day 1.

Re: Best Star Fox Games Of All Time

JakedaArbok

Guard is so underrated. A really unique and interesting tower defense game that no one will ever play because it’s associated with one of Nintendo’s most controversial games of all time. Speaking of Zero, it’s alright. I feel like the level design can be a bit wonky at times, but the control works for the most part, once you get the hang of it, and the story isn’t a direct copy of 64, so it’s an alright game. I’ve also played 64 3D, and I definitely get the hype. A phenomenal game that has cursed the franchise from the day 64 came out.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy Advance (GBA) Game Ranked

JakedaArbok

My list after playing the 6 very briefly:
6: Kuru kuru Kurin (no disrespect, it’s really good)
5: Super Circuit: easily better than Super Mario Kart, idk why people say otherwise
4:Minish Cap (again, absolutely no disrespect, phenomenal game)
3: Warioware Inc: a very vibrant game, and a very gutsy move by Nintendo to make this interesting experience
2 Mario Advance 4: These bonus levels are absolutely fascinating to play, and this is the best Mario 3 has ever controlled.
1: Superstar Saga: I am obsessed with the Mario and Luigi series, and this has all the fun of the fair. I prefer BIS and Dream Team, but this is an easy 3rd place.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked

@GameOtaku
Mario Land 2 and 3 are vastly different games. When you’re marketing a console, you kinda want to have a Mario game on there.
As for Alone in the Dark, that’s kind of an exception to the rule, I can’t argue that that’s weird. I still think the selection overall is weird, I’m just trying to get into Nintendo’s head regarding this.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy (Color) Game Ranked

JakedaArbok

@GameOtaku
I honestly think they might be going on a quality basis. Since the Switch’s life span is winding down, I have a feeling that they’re not going to put many more games on the system beyond the ones shown, and they’ll hopefully expand it next console. They’re hitting the Game Boy and GBA’s greatest hits, and Wario Land 3 and Mario Land 2 are the best games in their respective series on Game Boy.

Re: Nintendo Wins "Switch Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Lawsuit

JakedaArbok

Good night, the whataboutism in this comment section is terrible.
We can acknowledge that using your kids as bargaining tools to get easy money on a lawsuit is a horrible practice.
We can also acknowledge that Joy-Con Drift has gone down significantly in the past couple years, and can usually be fixed for free.
And we can acknowledge that having Joy-Con Drift at all is scammy behavior by Nintendo.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Re: Talking Point: 15 Years On, Should Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary Return?

JakedaArbok

Yes please. A thousand times, yes. I dunno why people rag on this mode so much, the levels were pretty fun in my opinion, and I really liked the original character designs. The story is the Nintendo crossover event everybody always wanted. The level design was a bit flat and boring, and there could have been more varied enemies to fight, but that just makes me think how much better a sequel could be. Smash Run on 3ds tells us that having varied Nintendo enemies would be very engaging, and in general a more expansive story could make the next Smash game the best one, even if they cut down on some characters.

@InTree
There’s more lol
Warioware:Get it Together

Live A Live
Fire Emblem (spinoff and new game)
Big Brain Academy
Pokémon (even if you don’t like the games, you have to admit they’re going in a positive direction

Re: Soapbox: Playing Games With Other People Made Me Realise That I'm A Monster

JakedaArbok

I’m very similar when I play with my little brother. I just want to tell him all the secrets or help him with the parts that were hard when I was little, and the worst part is he wants me to do that too (tbf, I would always resort to auto mode on games like NSMBW when I was his age). I have to restrain myself a lot of times when I watch him play, to the point where I either just go do something else or suggest a multiplayer game.

Re: Celeste Gets Beautiful New Collector's Edition For Fifth Anniversary

JakedaArbok

Great game, but that’s a weird-lookin cover for the simple reason that the person on the cover is not the same as the person in the game. Like, you can just look at the scrapbook and see those are two wildly-different looking images. Kinda a Mega Man 1 in America situation, where pixel art takes a character in an uncanny direction. Cool for you if you like it tho

Re: GoldenEye 007 Shoots Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch Online This Week

JakedaArbok

This game has aged very poorly. I played it on original hardware a few weeks ago, and there was no control scheme or way to play it that felt satisfying to hold. The gameplay itself is quite good for its time, and I could imagine the multiplayer would be good if you could get past the hurdle of the controls, but the hurdle's just too high for me to jump over.
Happy for people that are excited, but I was really hoping the next one would be Mario Party 3.

Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?

JakedaArbok

As a kid, finding the third star in Hands-On Hall in Super Mario 3D World. I had all the stars, all the stamps, all the golden flagpoles, I knew I just needed to get this one star. It took me like three months to figure out you could just walk the way the spikes were going and there was a whole other area.
My recent biggest frustration was presenting the Blue Badger at the end of the first Ace Attorney game. I knew what to do, I knew how to do it, I looked up about 15 guides to help, and it took forever.

Re: Soapbox: All Fish Pokémon Are Bad, And There's A Good Reason Why

JakedaArbok

I was gonna be outraged about this article, because I love water-types, but then I realized I only run with non-fish water types.
Pellipper and Buziel are staples of my teams, and I always pick the water starters, but I never bother with fish. If nothing else, they make good fodder for me to grind a grass or electric type.

Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

JakedaArbok

Finally finished the game… and yeah, I disagree on the score.
A lot of things said I do agree with though: the game is absolutely hideous in motion, it feels ridiculously unpolished, pop-in makes collectible hunting nigh-impossible, and Sonic tends to control either like a feather or a tank.

But idk, this game hits everything a Sonic game needs to hit. The music is the best since 06 (probably the only time you can use that phrase), the story is really intriguing, and while not everything lands, the stuff that does really does, and the Super Sonic boss fights are probably the highest amount of hype I’ve ever played in a video game.

It has so many glaring problems that I don’t doubt this was an honest review, but it’ll always be a great game in my heart, and I’m super hyped for the free DLC.
