Re: Gearbox CEO Doesn't See Borderlands 3 Coming To Nintendo Switch

IronMan28

"...which is worrying when you consider Nintendo's very real need to secure as much third party support for Switch as possible."

No kidding. It doesn't even sound like it's a "power issue," hopefully Nintendo figures out its fans would want to play games like this on Switch. Imagine how cool it would be to play this on the go with console quality graphics. Vita owners would weep more than they already do because Nintendo fans would have this on the Switch.

Re: Feature: Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Preview Event in London

IronMan28

I'm stoked for Breath of the Wild on Switch. I can picture myself playing it in handheld mode often, just because having a game like that in the palm of my hands is too cool. On top of that, Sonic Mania looks like it'll be a blast. Super Bomberman R is another game I think will be pretty cool. Disgea 5 will round out my collection, too. Heck, I'll probably get MK8 Deluxe later down the line.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Briefly Addresses Topic Of Carrying Over Online Purchases To Switch

IronMan28

@electrolite77 Building up a user base is typically how shareholders are appeased. I think Nintendo's assuming that adding value to older games by implementing online play in NES and SNES games is enough. While it would be enough if they were contingent upon being a member and they included later generations (N64 and GCN online play would be awesome, especially in older Mario Kart titles and the like), I don't think they're making the right move at this moment. However, if enough people buy Switch and pay for the premium service, Nintendo should get the capacity to provide a good rewards program. Time will tell and if Nintendo smartly integrates handheld and console lineups for the Switch, it can justify the gouging at the beginning a bit more if it gives away more as the service matures.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Briefly Addresses Topic Of Carrying Over Online Purchases To Switch

IronMan28

@JaxonH I understand your points and appreciate them. However, I will counter with the Big Mac example. In marketing, we say that if a Big Mac cost McDonald's $5 to make, the firm couldn't charge $7 because nobody is willing to pay that price. As far as an upgrade fee, I don't take issue with that too much because it really isn't a simple cut and paste activity to move VC games. However, Nintendo still has to come to terms with the reality that customers won't pay for certain games over and over again unless there are legitimate incentives.

I pre-ordered a Switch, but that doesn't mean I think the VC is going to be perfect and can still appreciate the merits of both sides of the argument about the platform.

Re: Guide: A Breakdown of Confirmed Nintendo Switch Games and Release Dates

IronMan28

It's amazing how Switch is launching just like the other 2 consoles did upon their release yet everyone is acting like this is a brand new phenomenon. And people are even treating Switch like it's been on the market as its 2 closest competitors. I guess I shouldn't be that baffled since everyone reacted to the Wii U this way, and it would have taken a new Metroid or F Zero (or both, and at launch with the 3D Mario) to placate people.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes On Ten Minutes Of Splatoon 2 Gameplay

IronMan28

Can't wait for this game. And when MS first started Xbox Live they charge people for online services while giving them absolutely nothing. Until this generation, MS didn't offer anyone free games, but could do so once the service grew. Nintendo is trying to grow its platform, so it's charging people to play online. Really, Wii U's online was pretty good in terms of fidelity. Switch will likely continue that trend, but improve. Most people perceive Nintendo's online services as "bad" because of the lack of voice chat, which I take issue with because that isn't an issue of quality. Yes, Smash could use work, but MK8 and Splatoon are as good as you'll get without being charged to play people online.

Again, Nintendo is trying to improve its offerings and charging people will help them obtain the necessary capital to reach the levels of competitors. However, I won't defend the free monthly rental for NES and SNES games because that's legitimately egregious, those games should have online features and be free as long as someone pays for the premium service.

Re: Poll: Are You Optimistic for Nintendo's 2017?

IronMan28

I just want Nintendo to shut up the trolls with Switch. Who am I kidding? That's never going to happen unless they go third-party, and even then, haters gonna hate.

Also, @JaxonH "So ya, I'd be down with an eventual Switch upgrade. Especially given a launch price of $250 (same price the dinky little 3DS launched at) which would mean maybe $100 to upgrade with a trade in."

I've pretty much said since it was revealed we'll probably see the Switch upgrade, the market is okay with the idea since product life cycles of consoles have been altered this gen.

Re: New Features for 'Mario Kart 8 Switch' Appear in Box-Art

IronMan28

It's amazing how many people wanted this to be true, either to deride or praise it. Either way, I'd probably buy it for the portable factor. As one poster said earlier, if this were for 3DS more people would be okay with it, but since the fake was for Switch they were up in arms.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th December (North America)

IronMan28

@Grumblevolcano Honestly, I don't have high hopes for the VC out of the gate anyway. Yes, it's disappointing that Nintendo doesn't have it together on that front, but it's pointless to worry so much. Either way, sucks that we'll have to pay to upgrade again for the Switch version of VC games.

Re: More Switch Rumors From Laura Kate Dale

IronMan28

@Shugo "Unless he's straight-up lying, that means Game Freak has nothing in the works for Switch right now."

I wouldn't say they have nothing in the works right now, and straight up lying isn't out of the question. As a business major, I've learned that lying to your constituents isn't out of the question and considered necessary in some cases. Of course, that isn't to say everything Eurogamer reports is gospel, but I'd like to think they've heard from what they feel are reliable sources. Then again, we'll all just have to wait and see...

Re: More Switch Rumors From Laura Kate Dale

IronMan28

@Shugo "Despite the fact that Pokemon Stars likely doesn't even exist (especially after that recent Masuda interview)"
"Without a doubt, Nintendo Switch is the future, but we will have to wait until it goes out on the market and study how it can benefit from Pokemon. When people have it, we will have too see and deeply study how to use it so we can think how the next entries of Pokemon are going to be and how the saga can benefit from the new console."

Sounds to me like they want to create a Pokemon game for it, and since they rarely have anything to do with the spin-offs, it's likely he is saying they'll put a mainline game on there. While this is conjecture at this point, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that Stars doesn't exist, although I can see where one might believe that. However, Eurogamer's earlier reports on Switch were fairly accurate and they may be right on Stars, too.

On to the contents of this article. As long as Nintendo can keep a lineup that equals 3DS and Wii U for Switch, it'll sell well enough for the revised 2.0 hardware that'll satisfy more "core" gamers. On top of that, I'd like to know the best battery life it gets, and even 3 hours isn't horrible considering it's much more powerful than 3DS, which launched with a life of 3-5 hours.

Re: NES Classic Edition Sold 196,000 Units in US Launch as Pokémon Sun and Moon Set Records

IronMan28

@Nintendoforlife Still bugs me, that they don't separate 3DS and Wii U Smash...

@IceClimbers Huh, I didn't realize it's by revenue. And, yes, that does make Pokemon's numbers even more impressive since that's the case.

@Dakt I'm less cynical than that, but it's possible you're right.

@GreenMonkie I appreciate your logic, honestly, I'd rather NPD gave the same treatment to Smash than Pokemon get the Smash treatment.

Re: The Nintendo Switch Power Debate is Back - Report Suggests It Won't Quite Match PS4

IronMan28

@emperorbob While I respect your viewpoint, I disagree. If you're not one of those people who saw the console games that 3DS couldn't handle and said, "I wish that was on 3DS," then I completely get where you're coming from. However, if you are one of the people who thinks that way, I feel like Switch will fulfill your needs eventually (assuming the battery life isn't a minimum of about 4 hours, then it may be sooner). Of course, I say that assuming you're more into the ease of taking the Switch with you, which is harder than taking a 3DS XL. Again, I think I get your point, but there are pros and cons to having an integrated device.

Re: The Nintendo Switch Power Debate is Back - Report Suggests It Won't Quite Match PS4

IronMan28

Hybrids typically have strengths and weaknesses associated with what's crossing over. It's on Nintendo to convince people that it's worth buying the Switch, and the easiest way to do that is to integrate handheld and console lineups.

Either way, didn't reports from the likes of Emily Rogers say that it'd match the original Xbox One at launch? I say "at launch" because ever since I saw the Switch's form factor it seemed pretty obvious Nintendo's aim is to create iterations of the hardware. If it sells well enough, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out with a 2.0 edition, and the market seems okay with that given the advent of the Pro and Scorpio.

Re: Interview: Learning More About the Adventure in Wii U Exclusive Twisted Fusion

IronMan28

@rjejr My daughter is 2 and my wife is currently pregnant with our son, so he won't be playing games for a while. However, my daughter plays Splatoon, she can maneuver pretty well for being so young and she can even kill enemies. Either way, I was the primary Wii U gamer while in school and working full time, so for me the system had more than enough software.

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

IronMan28

I got XC for Wii U only because I've held off on buying it (not being able to locate my physical copy has aided me in my decision process). However, most of these rewards are very bad. What's worse is it was my birthday yesterday and I got an email from Nintendo saying I'd get a discount on select games. I won't lie that I quivered a bit reading the "select" part. And pretty much as I predicted, I owned literally all of the games they were going to give me as a discount for my birthday. Nintendo needs to get smarter with these rewards, loyalty programs are pointless if not implemented very well.

Re: Interview: Learning More About the Adventure in Wii U Exclusive Twisted Fusion

IronMan28

@rjejr "So we barely got enough games to justify the price, but I was expecting more than enough, so I wouldn't have to try and decide if we got enough or not when we'd reached this point."

Honestly, I feel like I had more than enough games on Wii U. Then again, I was in school for a good portion of the time it was considered "alive," and I'm in grad school now so Switch will (hopefully) have more than enough for people with more time on their hands to play than I do.
