With Nintendo planning an eShop sale to coincide with The Game Awards, in addition to being up for some of the upcoming event's prizes, it's been clear the company is continuing its run of involvement with the show. Now the hype is ramping up further, with confirmation that there'll be an 'exclusive new look' at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during the show.
First of all, the announcements are below.
It's worth remembering that the first extensive look at gameplay for the title, while it was unnamed, was during The Game Awards in 2014. The title has certainly changed a fair bit since then, but it'll be worth tuning in with the prospect of a decent amount of footage.
Despite the extensive Wii U demo at E3 and all of the Treehouse streams, much of Breath of the Wild is still mysterious. Nintendo will hopefully fill in a few gaps with its offering at The Game Awards, though naturally plenty will still be left as a mystery ahead of the 2017 release. It'll also be interesting to see whether Nintendo opts to showcase it on the Nintendo Switch, now that the upcoming console has been revealed.
The Game Awards go down on 1st December at 5.30pm Pacific / 8.30pm Eastern / 1.30am UK / 2.30am CET (starting with the pre-show); naturally we'll be streaming and live blogging it all here on Nintendo Life. Are you hyped for this Breath of the Wild footage?

I will have to watch it later that night. Looking forward to something new to see!
Maybe we will get a confirmation of the release date then again.......
1:30am?! For goodness sake...
Still, more Zelda is more Zelda. And we need more.
How long does it usually go until? I'll be out when it starts for a couple hours at least.
May just watch certain parts at least I guess
Sleeping time
How about a not so exclusive look at finding an NES Classic Edition?
I really hope to see a more detailed story trailer with NPC's, a bit like the 2nd Twilight Princess trailer of E3 2005. Set the stage for the actual story please!
Maybe a story trailer finally???
Or how bout a release date? A release date sounds good.
Niceee! Hopefully we'll get to see a new area. They've shown quite enough of the Great Plateau.
Sucks for all you European guys that have to stay up late to watch this.
@PtM LOL, was this the show where they showed how the Gamepad worked with Breath of the Wild with that awkward tv setting? Long time ago...
@abbyhitter The pre show will start at 2.30am and yes i have to work on Friday but who cares, it's ZELDA
@PtM I know. I am a bit gutted that they cut the gamepad from the Wii U version.
I'm willing to bet we'll see little to nothing new. Maybe a new item or ability but not much else.
@MrHero Agreed.
Nice, I'll have to check it out.
Yay!
@Moshugan Amen! Enough of the Great Plateau!
Maybe it's to show off the first wave of amiibo for the game that comes out the day after! Yeah!
Thank goodness. I was a little afraid Nintendo might be serious about keeping shut until Jan 12. Everything is always so complicated with them, they can't just mean what they say or say what they mean, it's always riddles to be solved.
They won't give a date at TGA. And really, what's the point after the last time when Anouma said it would be out in 2015? Hopefully they'll make fun of that last appearance and somebody will ask about the release date and somebody will answer "2017, no serious, I mean it this time, it really is coming out in 2017, stop laughing."
I'll probably be watching the stream over at Pushsquare, their will likely be a lot more Sony news than Nintendo.
I'll be watching the game awards at the Microsoft theater, so excited!
@rjejr I'd have to disagree there. Don't think Sony will show much of anything because PSX is on Saturday.
Damn. I'm going to be a zombie at work on Friday.
Sucks that they won't make much use of the gamepad could've been perfect for inventories because this game has a lot of goodies
Thursday night? I'll be watching!
@abbyhitter Thankfully everything is recorded in the interwebz so we can watch it afterwards.
No Reggie! Please don't show Cranky Kong!!
Ah...I remember the days when I was sad for not being able to play Breath of the Wild because I never have the time to play TV Consoles and am forced to do portable only...those certainly weren't good days.
@IceClimbers Sony won't show off any new exclusives at TGA, but I'm expecting more of Horizon, God of War, The Last Guardian. It will be hard covering my eyes and ears every time Uncharted 4 comes up, getting that in my Slim bundle for Christmas. And The Witcher 3 should win an award or two, so I'm looking forward to that footage. I'd like to play it some day, but I really don't know if that will ever happen.
But besides Zelda all we'll see new for Nintendo is the same Super Mario Run commercial half a dozen times. It will be too depressing to watch the stream here. I'll be back Jan 12 for Switch. Too bad Nintendo climbed back up its mountain, it could have used TGA as a makeshift Switch party.
I hope we will see something from the story, a nice trailer that will blow us away
@rjejr No way God of War shows up at TGA, and I'd be surprised if it showed up at PSX. Not expecting new God of War footage until E3.
Nah, Nintendo will show that new Ever Oasis trailer, and maybe a DQVIII trailer.
I don't expect to see anything groundbreaking, but I'll probably tune in for the BotW segment.
@rjejr They said they're not talking about the Switch until Janurary 12 and they aren't. They're talking about Breath of the Wild.
Superb.Hopefully we'll get out first proper look at the Switch version, although we may already have without knowing it.Those 3 short trailers they released last time might have been the Switch version.
Would love to watch the live unveil, but not sure if I will, as many of the other trailers and adverts tend to have pretty strong language. At least, that was the case either last year or the year before when I watched, I can't remember.
Yeah baby! Got my copy of FFXV, a day off work and this awesome news! Today is a good day!
@IceClimbers "God of War"
I wasn't thinking GoW until he started showing up in the TV commericals.

2 seconds, 17-19, 23 1/2 That's 3x in 30 seconds, so TGA is feasible.
And mid-Nov at 1:56

Also Spiderman should be at TGA, but I think Sony will keep it off of Switch.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Rumour has it BotW is going to be on Switch. They also said they were only having Zelda at E3 but they spent 2 days of Treehouse on other games b/c Zelda was the only "playable" game. It's always something with Nitneod, kings of cryptic conversations, no name spokespeople and going back on their word.
That brings back memories, 2014 sure was a fantastic year. This time I haven't decided whether to stay up late but I'd imagine BotW would be the show closer like 2014 to hype people up for January.
So is it 1:30am on the 2nd December for UK?
I've seen mentions that the rumoured demo for BotW may also be released during the game awards, which would be awesome, but there's no evidence to back it up unfortunately.
Although, it would make sense timing-wise... it'll basically serve as an alternative to a Christmas release for the Wii U... not a full game, but we'll inevitably spend a lot of time playing it in order to look for as many little details as we can.
Plus, following the Switch event in January, all of Nintendo's focus will be on that, which could easily overshadow a Wii U demo (even if it is a dual release)... so they'd likely drop the demo some time in December in order to avoid that.
Release dates! To be confirmed?
The only thing that matters
Yes the start time sucks for Europe
I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever they choose to show, unless it's just the same area as the E3 demo... but really hoping for a release date (and that date being in March.)
@Spoony_Tech I think amazon has a preorder for march 31
hmm, not sure if I will be home by then. I'll just read the follow up articles.
Hopefully the NS version will be shown .
@iamseamoose That's just a placeholder date. Too many rumors as of late saying it won't be a launch title. I want Nintendo to tell us otherwise.
@IceClimbers I forgot Gravity Rush 2. I had no idea what that game was until I played the demo, it was great. It was like Bayonetta, only, well there really is no "only, it was basically Bayonetta 3.
OK, if I had to make a distinction it's a cell shaded Bayonetta.

This is the first time I've looked forward to the game awards.
@Wizelf402
Lol, me too
