@rjejr Thank you. I can see where you might have thought I meant your link. Trust me, I read the article you posted and had to do a double take since both your link and the one for this article are from CNBC. Your post actually threw me off for a second because I read the article Dom posted earlier this morning.
On a related note, the market seems pretty keen on Switch, which is why I've invested more in Nintendo since I began investing 6 months ago. And it does seem like Switch contributes to some company share prices performing well. Even Gamestop got a small bump a while back because of Switch, iirc.
I'm buying digital, but it's a nice trend that the OwlBoy devs and now Zoink are telling people physical releases are on the way before their game comes out.
@Rjejr The article linked on this post mentions the Switch. I suspect many commentors here didn't read the source article. Yes, it was partially speculation, but it's based on insider knowledge.
I don't think people really expect everything to come to Switch. Still, now that Nintendo revealed some major, albeit one is old, current-gen games coming from Bethesda, that changed some expectations. You're kidding yourself if you don't think this makes some other publishers look bad. If nothing else, it provides the appearance that publishers who weren't putting games on Switch because of power don't have an excuse. Yes, you note in the article that DOOM has an engine that can scale well, but Switch supports UE4, which is also an engine that scales fairly well. Not expecting people to want at least a little bit more at this point is a little silly.
@Roam85 I didn't end up benefiting from the bundles because I owned every game in them. That's made me more hesitant to buy Switch Indies, for better or for worse. But the irony is that some Indies have come forward with news that their games have done well on Switch, and I've not supported that many of them and I used to make it a point to pay full price on most third-party games for Wii U.
@BAN I'd do that, but all of my siblings will be there, along with my nephews that I (and my wife and kids) rarely see. I'm almost obligated to go because I actually like my family, lol.
I loved the first game and want to buy this day one, but my funds are low due to medical bills and my sister's upcoming wedding, which will cost an arm and a leg to attend. Oh well, I'll get this and the other Indie games I've skipped out on when there is a humble bundle for Switch indies.
If I had Minecraft for Switch, this would be pretty cool news. I haven't heard anything about the release date for the pack that gives the game really slick graphics, though.
It's possible it'll sell handheld numbers, but even 3DS didn't manage that so I'm not sure why they assume it'll sell better. Only reason I can muster is that it didn't have the massive lull in popularity a few months after launch that 3DS had.
How do people not realize that Nintendo usually doesn't make huge announcements when they say they're covering a period of time? They've even done that for the last few E3's, which is why they've been so bad. It was good if you had realistic expectations, which doesn't include having the entire Xbox/PS third-party catalogs in a week, or having a new AC/F-Zero.
Looks great. I'm going to try the demo later, but I've already downloaded it. Hopefully Switch gets a lot more RPGs, both Japanese and "Western" as time goes on. That's one genre that Nintendo home consoles have lacked since the N64 days.
I've heard good things about this game and its sequel. I want try this, aside from supporting third-parties on Switch. Nintendo is doing a lot wrong with the Switch, but it seems like they're doing more right.
Also, @rjejr might be happy to know there is an Odyssey bundle coming stateside on October 27th.
Seems like the Switch has caught on in Japan. Hopefully it maintains momentum in the US. Europe is slower, but that's to be expected since it's Sonyland over there.
I can honestly say that I've used Switch in many settings, which is probably why I appreciate its flexibility. It really is the system you can play anywhere, anytime. That is much cooler in practice than in writing.
@FragRed My excuse for not buying this on 3DS is I don't have a 3DS. I don't think Switch/3DS owners are dumb enough to skip this game just because it's on 3DS.
@rjejr Yeah, Nintendo's organizational structure makes sense, in the regard that they're such an old company that sticks to tradition. They don't trust Gaijin with making their own decisions, apparently.
@rjejr An XC2 bundle this year? That's a tall ask. Not that I'd complain, hopefully they do come out with a bundle, but I'm not seeing it happen this year. If they do, expect the same value as the Splatoon 2 bundle. That is to say, pretty much none.
@BanjoPickles Lol, that's okay. I've missed sarcasm more times than I'd like to admit. This Direct should be decent, though. Looks like @rjejr might be right and we'll get an XC2 release date, though. I hope so, anyway!
@BanjoPickles I need to use sarcasm font a little more often. Also, if any of those happened during a random Direct like the one on the 13th, I'd probably have a heart attack.
Time to list my completely serious and believable list of predictions:
GTA VI Switch exclusive (timed, of course)
Dishonered Collection for Switch at $29.99 MSRP
New Advance Wars for Switch, with a return to the GBA game story
Animal Crossing Switch
2D Zelda (Switch)
Virtual Console with Mother 3 as the first title for the service
F-Zero for Switch
Pokemon Switch trailer (around the time they show us more of the 3DS games)
Metroid Prime 4 trailer
Last, but not least:
Half-Life 3, Switch exclusive
Loving it, aside from a few minor gripes. Not being able to message friends, folders, lack of apps, and no VC. Other than that, this is probably the most fun I've had with a system in a while. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, its first year is leagues better than Wii U's. I didn't get either 360 or Xbox One in their first years (I can wait on consoles that I get for third-party games) so I can't compare those two based on firsthand experience, but from the outside looking in, the latter was pretty bad in year one.
Can't really ask for much more, especially since the lineup is filling out quite nicely for a first year console.
Pretty much exactly what I've read about the game everywhere else, sounds really good. I hope this is as rewarding as the original, because once you figure out skill links and how to manage your party, it's excellent.
@electrolite77 Yep, even at its best, Wii U wasn't having nearly as many consistent announcements of games. Plus, third-parties in general have warmed up to it as its first year has gone by, very unlike the Wii U. Wii U was cold as ice within 18 months of release. In fairness, there were many factors contributing to Wii U's failure, but it's still a far cry from where we are with Switch right now.
@rjejr Switch's first year is leagues better than Wii U's, but that's admittedly a bit of a low bar. Thus far, it's been the anti-Wii U, which is good in many respects.
Not surprising numbers. Switch is still doing fairly well, and the momentum will likely continue in the land of the rising sun. People bow there to show respect, I like that. We need more of that in America.
@rjejr EA published Amalur, and there was a big stink about its DLC, IIRC. I bought the game for my PS3 (I was in my early 20s and I had plenty of spare cash and all of the major consoles) and thought it was very enjoyable.
As for Schilling, I'm a big Phillies fan, and liked him when he was on their pitching staff, but that was before I knew more about him. As time wore on, I became okay with the idea of a Schilling-less Phillies organization. That, and post-Schilling, the Phils won a WS.
I hope they do a Direct for XC2, as well. The first game was one of my favorite Wii titles.
As someone who actually OWNS the system in question (unlike a portion of the people commenting here) I have to give it a solid A-. Needs more app support, it's bare bones. One might say it's inadequate in that regard, and they'd be right. Other than that, the software is great, and switching between play styles is a breeze. Can't ask for a system to do much more than advertised.
@rjejr Ah, I honestly forgot a lot of that game (although it was pretty good). I also remember that the dev was funded by the state of Rhode Island, which is ironic because Curt Schilling is very conservative and claims to dislike the idea of Socialism, only to benefit from something resembling the economic system. Regardless, it was a pretty good game that just didn't do very well because EA botched the launch.
I will reiterate that this game is one of my more anticipated Switch games coming soon. This, and the obvious ones coming out into next year (meaning pretty much everything that was announced at E3 2017).
@rjejr Kingdoms of Amalur is one of those games I feel is oddly M-rated. That game wasn't particularly "mature" if memory serves, so I'll agree with you and your wife's assessment on that game. My 5-month old son seems poised to also love games, since he seems very interested in when I'm playing Zelda or my wife (or I) is/am playing Splatoon 2. Both of my kids are excellent at keeping myself and my wife very busy. My daughter has an affinity for cars, so she'll routinely play either version of MK 8 we own, or Retro City just because of the car factor. But yes, parenting is very hard in many facets, especially when it involves your hobbies.
I want a solid release date for this, too. We're already in September, but they were also slow with FE: Warriors, so they may announce it on a random Tuesday this month. Either way, it needs to happen very soon.
XC 2 looks great. The first was epic, and X was a blast. Getting lost on Mira was way too cool, and finding my way around Bionis was excellent. Can't wait for this game!
Side note: I'll just play when the kids aren't around and put on the parental controls so my 3 year-old doesn't play this game. She already plays Retro City Rampage DX and tries to park the cars she's stolen, not really understanding ANYTHING going on in the game, but this is still probably not appropriate for someone that young.
@rjejr I should clarify that I'm talking about the Switch in comparison to Wii. Wii and Switch aren't comparable because of the conditions outlined in my reply to Oorwhatshis/hername.
@OorWullie Exactly, comparing Switch to consoles that launched not only a decade ago, but in the Holiday season is a little...stupid? Besides, I take the @rjejr approach and argue that it's not a console or a handheld, so there are no current apples to apples comparisons. And yes, if one were to compare the sales of both Switch and Wii, it would be smarter to compare them after about a year on the market.
