Re: Dragon Quest Builders Leads A Switch Takeover Of The Japanese Charts

IronMan28

Switch beat PS4 on the last chart as well. Not surprising given nothing very big has come to either system (in Japan) since MHW. I expect the trend to continue for a while, given the Switch's form factor.

Edit: Also, for those who were complaining about disingenuous NL headlines when PS4 was beating Switch in Japan, here is the current headline for the Japanese charts over at Pushsquare.

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/03/japanese_sales_charts_even_dragon_quest_cant_knock_monster_hunter_world_off_the_top

So, yes, even they spin things positively for PlayStation at Pushsquare. Not justifying (or even criticizing) the behavior, just saying your claims are wrong.

Re: Surprise! There's A New Nintendo Direct Coming, And It's Due Tomorrow

@rjejr Technically, we're both right because it's still before E3 and around the one year mark.

I also hope we don't see too much Kirby and Mario Tennis, although a 3D Mario Tennis with an RPG mode is pretty exciting to me.

Edit: Sounds like your son is sold on Kirby.
I loved the demo and so did my daughter (she screams Kiwby! excitedly when we start it up), I may even be able to convince my wife to play it! I will also fully admit that Kirby is an easy sell for me since the games are almost always enjoyable.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Learned A Lot From Wii U’s Struggles During Its Own First Year

IronMan28

Wii U was pretty much DOA, and I was one of many people here who couldn't admit that. On the other hand, Switch seemed poised to do well before launch. For one, people didn't seem to like the Wii U hardware, contrary to the Switch. So much so, I would read that people said it had good games but was a bad system. That is a ridiculous statment, but I read it in more than one place. In fact, that pretty much sums up the gaming community at large's thoughts on the Wii U.

Switch is nothing like that, and that's one of many reasons why it has done better than Wii U ever will. Add the fact that Switch will also get the games that Nintendo handhelds normally get, and the other perceived problem with the Wii U (games) is likely not going to be a long term problem for Switch. Both devices share similarities, but from form factor to marketing, Switch has the clear edge.

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For A Switch 2.0, Sources Claim

IronMan28

@bratzdoll the headline is misleading, the source that WSJ is citing said there would be longer times between revisions to keep Switch around for longer than the standard Nintendo console lifespan of 5-6 years. NL just wants to keep the narrative that Switch isn't replacing 3DS because they still want 3DS around.

Re: Nintendo Has No Plans For A Switch 2.0, Sources Claim

IronMan28

Misleading headline. Nintendo specified that there would be no revision in 2018. They plan on having bigger gaps between revisions than their handhelds, that's how they plan on keeping the system around for longer than 5-6 years, which you note in the quote from the source article. That matters more than you're letting on.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd February (North America)

IronMan28

Might get Toki Tori 2+ and will finally buy Steamworld Dig 2 (Switch). Mulaka looks interesting, but that's next week and hopefully that reviews well. And every week for Switch has been packed with content. Yes, there are ports, but the games are coming, and Wii U never had as many consecutive weeks of great content that matches the games found on Switch each week.

Re: Soapbox: Switch Continues To Give Older Games A Second (Or Third) Chance At Redemption

IronMan28

I look at Switch now like I did when 3DS launched, we're getting portable versions of games that weren't on handhelds before (save for Hyrule Warriors, which ran poorly on 3DS). I'm okay with that, and frankly, won't be surprised when we see more ports from older consoles later on. Nobody will care about the first year in year 3 because if history about Nintendo handhelds tells us anything, Switch will end up having a hell of a lineup by the end of its lifespan. Then there will be NL articles on keeping the Switch going forever.

Re: Review: Fe (Switch eShop)

IronMan28

@bLiNdSiDe82 is the platforming good, or is it more the world is interesting? People criticized more than the length and "EA factor," so that's why I ask.

@PhilKenSebben It's Octoberfleshed. I keep my personas different, and have been accused of being a fanboy there (oddly enough, of Sony and Nintendo systems and I don't even have a PS4). Is your name the same here and there?
