Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are just a few months away from launch, and The Pokémon Company has finally given us another deep look into what we can expect to see.
A new trailer, which was featured in today's Pokémon Presents show, gives us our best look at the new remakes yet, showing off plenty of returning places and characters, as well as some new and revamped features. Make sure to give it a watch above.
Among the highlights in the new footage are character customisation (a feature not present in the original games), the Grand Underground, Super Contest Shows, capsule decoration, the Union Room, and the fact that Pokémon follow you around as you walk. It was interesting to see that various Pokémon appear on-screen just like in Pokémon Sword and Shield's Wild Area, too.

It's also been revealed that a special Nintendo Switch Lite system featuring artwork of Dialga and Palkia will be launching this November.
Will you be picking up Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl when they launch on 19th November? Tell us below.

So far so good.
Day one ?
Kinda temptating since during this year i still keep busy hunting for old games from Wii / Wii U / Gamecube or building my PS4 games library during semester 2 of 2021.
I will have some deliberation first.
the game itself looks really fleshed out and fun.
that shift between average sized battle characters to chibi model characters still looks terrible, though.
Holy Hanna! ... They made so many things come back and Pokemon follow return! I'm WAY EXCITED now!
I never thought I would say this. But I'm excited about a Pokemon game. Massive improvement over the first reveal trailer.
Still not a fan of the chibi, but I will admit it looks waaaayyy better than before! Now I'm actually excited for this!
This game looks even better, I am absolutely gonna pick both of them up.
It's definitely looking better. Not sure yet if it's a day 1 purchase for me though... I'll wait and see for now.
I'm so pumped to revisit team Luxray and Starraptor. Rolling in with two intimidates on double battles is so satisfying 😏
This looked better. I still would have liked to see GTS or wonder trade. I wonder if the new underground will have the different versions respective Pokemon.
I do have to give them the point that trainer customization is much more than I ever expected of this game. But the game just can't be saved by that. It's still a super-conservative 2.5D remake of a game that was already 2.5D. They may have improved the lighting, but the rest of the graphics remain unchanged. It looks very drab and lacks the refinement of other 2.5D games published by Nintendo on the Switch. I can not shake this feeling that the game still looks very cheap. It's the overworld models. They just look somewhere in between DS and 3DS instead of Switch.
It looks a lot better. Graphics still aren’t quite there but they’ve got everything that the DS game had so uh, I guess there’s that?
@Harmonie This is full 3D though, not 2.5D? Every asset is 3D, I didn't catch any sprite models on the field. And lack of camera control doesn't mean a game isn't 3D...
@Broosh I mean 2.5D in style. 2.5D refers to 3D objects formatted in a very 2D way. It has had that definition for as long as I remember.
@Harmonie Ah, gotcha. I thought 2.5 was 2D sprites in a 3D environment or nice versa (like Klonoa PS1 or the Pkmn DS games). So Let's Go Pika/Eevee would also be 2.5D, yeah?
@Broosh Yup. Just think of it as if even if the game had a controllable camera, the environments and set-up of objects would not look anything like a 3D game. Still very square and blocky.
Diamond/Pearl deserved better than this.
They really buried the lede with walking pokemon coming back. It's weird how it's not shown in 90% of the trailer, but then confirmed afterwards.
At this point all I want is to be able to use new pokemon in the game. If they give me that I'm sold.
I feel like I'm the only one who prefers this new artstyle to what we got from X & Y to Sword and Shield. Those games just looked ugly to me; devoid of emotion. These new ones, although chibi, actually look aesthetically pleasing in my eyes.
Although one look at any social media website, and I can quickly tell this isn't the consensus. Everyone's prolly going to get this DESPITE the artstyle, not because of it.
Contests look gorgeous, chibi style is growing on me
I might have to pre-order this as it looks better than I expected, will still hold off till closer to release though.
Lighting looks better like it did in the brief footage from the Switch OLED model trailer, and it's good to see some new albeit mostly cosmetic features.
@DrLockdown You arent the only one. I agree. I can take or leave the chibi characters but the world looks great. I also really liked the Let's Go art style as well, so what do I know...
All I care about is the Battle Frontier and although I know that was only in Platinum originally it was legitimately the most fun thing and would love to see it again redone
It look really better than that anouncement before. So many new feature add to this remake. Can't wait to try this.
Game looked better for sure, but I was disappointed in how little they told us. Are there HMs? EXP share? How big is the Pokedex, and what limits are we going to have for transferring Pokemon in. All this time waiting for news and there was very little? Probably still going to buy it, but I don't want to feel like I'm playing a 15 year old Pokemon game.
@Peach64 That's definitely true. They showed quite a lot but told us nothing, similar with Legends: Arceus.
I really wish they'd be more communicative. It kind of felt like they were tossing this out to appease fans after a long silence and now they're just going to disappear again.
On positive notes, I like the graphics overall and I love that backgrounds stay consistent in battles, rather than the bland empty voids you see so often in Sword and Shield. This game already makes Sw/Sh look even more rushed than they originally did.
Still basically the same game. Going to skip this and just get Legends.
I have to get off my chest how badly edited that trailer is.
Zooming into text windows with like 5x magnification to highlight a key word like Union Room or Stickers is a mess, just use title effects!
How does humble pie taste, doomers?
Will defenitivly buy it.
Somehow it appeals more to me than Sword/Shild (that i haven't bought until yet and never will)
If the Battle Frontier returns then i am in. Joking, i will buy this regardless. I played Pokemon Diamond on my Nintendo DS for months and it was a amazing experience
Looking more closely at the footage, it seems like the chibi overworld character models no longer have super-oversized hands, which definitely improves the artstyle a bit.
Looking good!
Platinum content is a must to earn a purchase from me.
Just have to wait and see.
Sweet. I always enjoyed the underground mechanic in gen.4, nice to see it get a spotlight in the new trailer.
This is looking waaaay better than the first trailer. The Pokémon following you are so cute!
So have we seen anything in the larger Platinum regional dex yet?
I loved what I saw, and the outfits and follow mechanics are actually a big deal for me. Also glad that the Underground and Super Contests are making a comeback. Still keeping an eye out for Platinum content.
As I suspected, the art style is also growing on me, though I still don't like the view shift between 3D and 2.5D. Nostalgia maybe, but it seems more jarring compared to the sprites used in the original game.
@Redax Why would it not have the National Dex? They’ve already shown that it has more Pokemon as part of the Underground.
@Redax This isn’t even made by Gamefreak. And the original games didn’t have generations 5, 6, 7 and 8 Pokemon either. Which is a much much bigger undertaking than having the first 4 generations.
Of course they aren't going to show everything. Gotta save some goodies as we get closer to release.
@nessisonett they should take an example with Links Awakening! Which looks amazing, this spooks way too cheap in comparison. And no new features? Expanded Pokédex, Story missions? Mega Evolutions, new Pokémon from other gems. Will they include all legendaries like other games! So shocked they didn’t reveal any key data on this.
@Peach64
In regards of transfer, Home support will not be ready until 2022.
Lots of missing info, but I'm satisfied with this trailer. There will be more in near future as they ramp up advertisement.
I do like what has been revealed so far and think is shaping up nicely. However, I'm waiting to see if all Platinum content will make it in. If not, it will be a hard pass for me.
I do think EXP Share will be present, just hope is the toggle version and not the SwSh route. They mentioned "faithful" remake with QoL so I imagine is there.
I also think the National Dex will be Gen 1-4. More is always welcome, but I personally would be content with that roster.
Same for "gimmicks." Mega Evo would be nice since region's professor specializes on Evo, but is not a must for me.
I'm basically hoping for a definitive Sinnoh experience so this has to top Platinum!
Judging by the comments here, the road to praise is to make a bad trailer and then a good trailer. Many people will then offer praise because the new trailer looks better than the old trailer.
I don't really understand the negativity towards the "chibi" characters when the first 5 generations of pokemon all had chibi sprites.
Anyway, I'll be picking one of these up for me and mrs to play.
Hopefully the statues will allow non-Sinnoh Pokemon to be captured in the underground.
@Crono1973 : Yeah, pretty much. I almost immediately started cursing at the screen during the first reveal trailer, because it started off with a world of promise with the opening shot of the original DS zooming in to footage from Diamond/Pearl, only for the first shot from the actual game to include a hideously cheap-looking chibi model.
Yes, this trailer has redeemed the games in a lot of respects, and I am a little more enthusiastic than I was about 6 months ago, but I won't praise TPCi to high heaven for their obvious complacency either.
The irony is that the remakes are how I anticipated (more or less) how the DS games would have looked like prior to their reveal back in the day, considering that the DS was capable of far superior visuals than the N64 and was in turn capable of pulling off graphics that were superior to the Pokémon Stadium games (for example, compare the night-and-day difference between Super Mario 64 and its DS remake and Mario Kart 64 to the DS installment).
@Inc : I don't recall anybody ever referring to the sprites from older games as "chibi" models. The sprites looked the way that they did due to the resolution/technical constraints of the day and the choice to use such character models was more practical than stylistic (as it would be difficult to depict the illusion of height in a sprite-based game from a bird's-eye perspective with such limited resolution), while in BD/SP, there are no such technical limitations, and the decision to adopt a chibi aesthetic is... baffling to say the least, especially as previous installments on Switch have had more realistically proportioned human characters in the overworld. I suppose I "get" that they are trying to replicate the experience of the original DS games more closely. I personally don't like it, but what's done is done. I suppose if there is any consolation to this, I guess it can be seen as a good thing that TPCi is more open to considering disparate aesthetic choices between installments, which may benefit the series in the long-term. Time will tell.
I'm not a fan of the chibi style but I have to admit that it does look beautiful and charming. Returning to the basics in some aspects while improving others seems to be a step in the right direction as the presentation of these games seem way better than the last entries. Sometimes simple details like battles having the right background or pokemon following you make a big difference.
@Harmonie Well said.. still disappointed with this chibi remake.. really weird to see the shift from chibi to full sized trainer in battle. Not worth it for me personally.. can't believe it has the same price as Legends Arceus
@Silly_G Yessss. That's how I've always felt. These were not design choices by choice, they were forced by hardware limit. Pokemon has no business looking like this on an HD system in 2021, and it has even less business charging a whopping $60 for it.
@Skitrules indeed I hope battle Frontier makes a return. It gave me an extra reason to come back and play (other than filling the pokedex)
Now mentioning pokedex though, they haven't confirmed if all the pokemon up to diamond and pearl will be available to catch/use in this remake
I have somehow gone my whole life and been a Nintendo fan and never played a single pokemon game, so I decided to get Brilliant Diamond.
I like the Chibi style personally.
Chibi Dawn is just too adorable! 😍
Seriously, the improvements and new features actually look quite exciting, the new Underground looks amazing!
That said, the presentation focused only on new features. I wonder if there will be stronger forms for Dialga and Palkia and the starters, just like ORAS.
You know i s till don't understand why people are getting so hung up over the "chibi" characters that's how it was on the DS original too
Never had a 3/DS, so while I'll wait for it fall to <$60, I am excited to play my first 'Mon since Gold!!
