Re: Ys Developer Wants To Release Two More "Refined" Games On Switch

Hydra_Spectre

I predict they would also release "Refined" versions of Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, and Ys SEVEN.
Ys: Memories of Celceta got a PS4 remaster while Ys Origin was released on Switch and PS4.

That said, I would love Switch remasters of every Ys game. And it would be amazing if Ys V (the lost one) gets a canon remake as well.

Re: Sega Thinks Its "Super Game" Could Bank Over $600 Million USD

Hydra_Spectre

@daveMcFlave That's good. A complete reboot in an alternate continuity like the Online games (and their spinoffs) would be good.
But I feel like making a sequel to the original Phantasy Star games would be insulting to fans. It had the perfect ending. And a prequel would just be needless fanservice.

Phantasy Star IV is probably one of the best finales in gaming, and it should stay that way.

Re: Sega Thinks Its "Super Game" Could Bank Over $600 Million USD

Hydra_Spectre

@RedBlueSpot Phantasy Star IV was such a perfect ending to the original Phantasy Star series that I would rather they never follow the original series ever again.

I would be down for remakes, but new stories in that universe won't work because the Phantasy Star original series has a definitive beginning and a definitive ending.

If they make Phantasy Star V, it would most likely end up undoing the ending of Phantasy Star IV, which would rub fans the wrong way. Phantasy Star V would most likely destroy the artistic integrity of the original Phantasy Star series. I heavily respect creators who have the integrity to end a series on the highest note possible, without making a sequel to undo the happy ending.

I would be okay with alternate universe spinoffs like the Online games, but the original series should be best left as the grand finale. The endgame, if you will.

Re: Rumour: Possible First Look At Mario's Movie Face Appears Online

Hydra_Spectre

Mario's eyes look more anime here than he ever did.
Then again, this is still a US-France-Japan co-production with both Nintendo and Toho's (Godzilla, Your Name., Weathering With You, My Hero Academia, SPY x FAMILY, Jujutsu Kaisen) involvement.

I just wonder how this will perform in Japan compared to Toho's other animated film: Makoto Shinkai's Suzume no Tojimari.

Re: Rumour: New Metal Gear Solid Remasters Reportedly Incoming

Hydra_Spectre

@progx Yeah. But they won't be releasing a plain emulation of the game, they must do a remaster from the original source code (or reverse-engineering the original game).
Hell, if MGS4 cannot be on Switch, then it probably won't be on PS4 and Xbox One either.

MGSV can definitely run on the Switch. With better performance and graphics than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but not quite as good as the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Re: Rumour: New Metal Gear Solid Remasters Reportedly Incoming

Hydra_Spectre

Here's my idea for a multi-volume Metal Gear collection.
Metal Gear Solid: The Original Trilogy

  • Metal Gear (MSX)
  • Metal Gear (NES)
  • Snake's Revenge
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid - HD Edition (based on Integral version with VR Missions)
  • Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - HD Edition (PC/Nintendo Switch exclusive because Nintendo partially owns this version; maybe Konami could have some agreements with Nintendo to port this to PC)
  • Metal Gear Ac!d - HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - HD Edition (with restored content from Subsistence such as Secret Theatre, Snake vs. Monkey [PC/PS4/PS5-only] and Metal Gear Online 1)
  • Metal Gear Ac!d 2 - HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - HD Edition (combined with Portable Ops+)

Metal Gear Solid: The Future Collection

  • Metal Gear Solid Mobile
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (with Metal Gear Online 2)
  • Metal Gear Solid Touch (not on Xbox because of the touch controls)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops (MTX-free version similar to an Apple Arcade version of a free-to-play game)
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Solid V: The Ultimate Experience (basically The Definitive Experience but with Metal Gear Survive included for free)

  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (with Metal Gear Online 3)
  • Metal Gear Survive

The idea here is to include every single Metal Gear game, regardless of canonicity and actual involvement from Kojima, as he's out of the picture now. It may be nice if they could have an agreement with Kojima to use his name and company logo for promotion)

A single collection having everything would be impossible unless it was a box set containing multiple discs and cartridges, but it would be nice if they did have a box set.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Documentary 'GoldenEra' Snapped Up By Streaming Giant Cinedigm

Hydra_Spectre

I know Cinedigm distributes the DVDs and Blu-rays of Shout! Factory (a boutique distributor for anime and horror films, among other things), GKIDS (an arthouse animation distributor), Studio Ghibli, Hallmark Channel, and many more.

Altitude Films is a UK company that most famously dubbed Studio Ponoc's anime film Mary and the Witch's Flower, but they have lots of other films.

Re: Sega's Financial Results Bolstered By Sonic Origins And Pachinko Machines

Hydra_Spectre

I loved Sonic Origins. It’s a really solid way to play the classic Sonic games. And it’s now the definitive way to play Sonic 2 after they fixed the Tails AI (which was also broken in the mobile remaster).

That said, I have a grudge against pachinko as it’s what drove Konami away from making more AAA games.
It’s already been seven years (damn, it’s that long) since their very last AAA release: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Konami cut all ties with Kojima to make pachinko and mobile games and look where they are now.

I am happy with Kojima leaving Konami but not in a way where he would never touch his past ever again. If Kojima became independent, he should still have ties with Konami that allow him to oversee any of the IPs he started there.

Konami doesn’t even care about Metal Gear, if they do, they could’ve at least released a massive complete collection for modern consoles and PC, alongside mobile ports of the MSX games, the AC!D games, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker.

I would hate to see the day SEGA becomes the new Konami. I don’t want to see Sonic Frontiers become their Phantom Pain.

Re: Sega Rolling Out New Update For Sonic Origins, Here's What's Included

Hydra_Spectre

My only gripe is that you still can't play as Sonic & Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
You have to go to the Level Select to do so, even when Sonic & Tails mode is unlocked after beating the game once in the 2013 mobile version.

Knuckles & Tails in Sonic 2 and Tails in Sonic CD are similar New Game+ unlockables which are available from the start in Origins with no Level Select tricks required so they have no excuse.

Re: Whoops, Looks Like Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 Has Been Leaked

Hydra_Spectre

I hope these Nickelodeon crossover games would have some Paramount-owned non-Nickelodeon characters like Movie Sonic and Maverick from Top Gun.

These Nickelodeon crossovers could also have some Disney characters, with Doug and Indiana Jones having some history with Paramount despite being Disney-owned characters now.

Re: Monkey Island's Creator Seemingly Shuts Down Blog After Personal Attacks

Hydra_Spectre

The Lucasfilm fandom is bleak nowadays.
They are getting tons of flak over the new Star Wars films (and sometimes, the shows), and now Return to Monkey Island is getting just as much flak.

Congratulations, Lucasfilm fans, you are now worse than the Sonic fandom.
The hellstorm over The Rise of Skywalker seems quaint by comparison. And The Rise of Skywalker was about the only recent Star Wars content I actually hated. (except for Babu Frik, who is the GOAT in that movie)

Re: Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition Gets Original Version On Steam After Poor Reception

Hydra_Spectre

I'm pretty sure they are not allowed to release the original version on consoles.
The original source code is now lost and the "original version" on Steam and GOG is running on the ScummVM source port/emulator.

Mistic released some ScummVM ports of some Junior Adventure games on Wii back in the day, they were taken down as they failed to attribute the code to the ScummVM team.
Because of this whole debacle, Night Dive thought they cannot release the original Blade Runner running on ScummVM in consoles, and did the remaster.

Still, I'm pretty sure ScummVM is open source and Night Dive/Alcon can release the ScummVM version on consoles as long as they properly credit the ScummVM team.

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Working On Version 1.6, Includes "Some New Content"

Hydra_Spectre

I'm excited for this, but I would rather have ConcernedApe update the mobile versions to v1.5.
Mobile has been stuck on v1.4 for over two years now.

I prefer playing Stardew Valley on PC but I would love to get it on mobile since it's the only platform that allows (manually operated) cross-save with the PC version, provided they are on the same version of the game.

I don't have a Nintendo Switch so I can't get that type of portability. Plus, while it does allow the transferring of saves to and from PC and mobile, it would require CFW and hacking, which I don't want to do for a console with current support like the Switch.
I'm in for modding my PS3, though, as games there could be delisted or bloody expensive, and Sony doesn't ban HEN consoles.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: #102 - Resident Evil Gaiden

Hydra_Spectre

@Fizza Yeah. I love the US artwork's '90s anime style.
It reminds me of shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and Cowboy Bebop.

It makes me wonder how a '90s-style anime adaptation of Resident Evil would work out. But the only anime studios nowadays that can faithfully replicate the analogue '90s cel animation style are Studio Ghibli and Studio Ponoc (and the latter is an offshoot of Ghibli).
Ghibli and Ponoc are more associated with making family-friendly fairy tales than something like Resident Evil, but Hayao Miyazaki was planning on adapting the manga Parasyte at one point during production of Princess Mononoke, but it was cancelled because New Line Cinema held the film adaptation rights.

Studio Ghibli making an anime adaptation of Resident Evil would be amazing.

Re: SEGA Announces The Mega Drive Mini 2, Boasting 50 Genesis And Mega CD Games

Hydra_Spectre

I wonder what kind of licencing had to go through to include Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water in the console.
The game was made by Namcot (now owned by Bandai Namco) and it is based on an anime formerly owned by Toho/NHK, which went to GAINAX (the actual animation studio that made most of the show), and then as a joint property between khara (the producers of Rebuild of Evangelion) and NHK.

They had to deal with Bandai Namco, NHK and Studio Khara for it to be included.

Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'

Hydra_Spectre

@russell-marlow John Carpenter would be a great fit for directing it.
If not him, then it would probably be James Gunn. His crude humour and over-the-top gore would make him a great fit for Duke Nukem. The Guardians of the Galaxy films still carry his style while being well within PG territory.
The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker basically made me believe that he could do Duke Nukem justice.

Re: Feature: Sonic The Hedgehog Compilations - Every Sonic Collection Before Sonic Origins

Hydra_Spectre

I played Sonic & Knuckles Collection and Sonic CD on my old PC as a kid.
I loved the games but I always wondered what happened to Sonic 1 and 2, until I got Mega Collection Plus.
We never got any consoles and we got Sonic as it was the closest thing we could get to Mario on PC (we did not know about emulators at the time), and they didn't want me playing games like GTA and DOOM.
Still, even after I finally got to play some Mario games, I am still more of a Sonic fan than a Mario fan.

Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'

Hydra_Spectre

@JustMonika Deadpool only had 1 cut, an R-rated cut.
Deadpool 2, however, had three different cuts: a theatrical R-rated cut, an unrated Super Duper $@%!#& Cut, and a PG-rated Once Upon a Deadpool Christmas cut.
Grace Randolph was hoping they could have made a PG cut of Deadpool 1 but it didn't happen. It is possible, however, that Marvel may release two different cuts of Deadpool in the cinemas: a clean PG cut and an explicit R cut.

This kind of thing already happens in the Philippines, the largest cinema chain here: SM Cinema, refuses to show films rated R-18 (there are three flavours of the R rating here, an R-13, R-16 and R-18).
This is why the Fifty Shades Trilogy only got a limited release here yet managed to break records, even when they already showed the censored cut made by Toho for the Japanese release and the Chinese direct-to-video release.

The local horror film The Healing was shown with a wide release censored R-13 cut and a limited release director's R-18 cut with much more gore. They came out simultaneously.
This happened again with the Keanu Reeves film Knock Knock (a censored R-16 release with a limited R-18 release) and Midsommar (a heavily-censored R-16 release with a limited R-18 release of the US R-rated theatrical cut), both releases from Lionsgate Philippines.

Robert Zemeckis was going to release Beowulf with two different versions, a clean PG-13 cut with a wide release and an NC-17 cut with an IMAX-only release, but the decision was instead to release a single R-rated version theatrically with the NC-17 version being released on home video.
The "R-rated cut" ended up getting a PG-13 and the "NC-17" cut was still rated PG-13 on the home video release, if it wasn't unrated.

I hope that Disney could be comfortable with releasing a clean PG cut and an explicit R cut of Deadpool 3, maybe with different takes and jokes between the two versions, especially since the director Shawn Levy has more success with making PG family-friendly adventure comedy films like Free Guy and The Adam Project. He would even probably be forced to do the R-rated cut while his preferred director's cut is rated PG.
That already happened with the Lucasfilm animated film Twice Upon a Time, which was filmed to be quite clean and family-friendly but the dialogue was re-recorded (without the director's knowledge or consent) to be much more vulgar to get a PG rating for its theatrical release. It ended up bombing at the box office, and the theatrical cut was pulled in favour of an unrated director's cut that is much cleaner and would have received a G rating. The Warner Archive DVD actually has both explicit PG and clean unrated dubs, since the runtime and scenes are identical, the improvised script is just different.

That said, I hope that Duke Nukem gets two different versions (clean PG and explicit R) if executives are not exactly comfortable with Duke's signature crude humour.
They can probably even release an NC-17/Unrated cut for a limited theatrical release and for the home video release.

Re: Duke Nukem Is Getting A Movie From Legendary & The Creators Of 'Cobra Kai'

Hydra_Spectre

The film with the longest production time has to be Disney's The Snow Queen, a film that started as Walt Disney's successor to Snow White that wouldn't be made for over 70 years until it was heavily retooled and revamped into the final product that is Frozen.

If the Duke Nukem Forever curse still persists in the film, this would be The Thief and the Cobbler of video game movies, but if it is a success, it would be the Frozen of video game movies: a film with an extremely long and troubled production that became a massive success.
The Sonic movie is also that, since it was in development for nearly 30 years until releasing to a massive success.

Re: Random: The Powkiddy X51 Emulation Console Tries To Rope In Switch Fans

Hydra_Spectre

I would get one of these so I can have a portable emulation device while keeping my Nintendo Switch (if I had one) with the stock firmware.
But it looks like I would have a better time getting the Steam Deck so I have something more premium but something that still allows unofficial emulation.

With those prices, I would get a Genesis Mini or a Super NES Classic instead.

Re: Level-5 Launches New Ni no Kuni Game In The West - Features Crypto And Blockchain, Will Add NFTs

Hydra_Spectre

@Roibeard64 It also looks like Level-5 had little involvement in this or in the Netflix movie.
This game and the movie just used the Ni no Kuni licence from Level-5 but were not actually from Level-5.

Also, the subtitle of the Japan-only DS game was officially Dominion of the Dark Djinn (according to the soundtrack CD) but the literal subtitle and the fan translation's subtitle is The Jet-Black Mage.
