If Chris Pratt taking on the voice of Mario in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animation wasn't already enough for you, a "lifelong Nintendo fan" and beginner Unreal Engine user is reimagining the Super Mario Bros. NES title as a realistic game starring the new voice of Mario.
Yes, Chris Pratt is even infiltrating the games now in this new fan-made creation. The first trailer (above) has gone live, showing off the project's first major update. It's got a "much-improved likeness", new levels, "actual gamplay", coin collection, power-ups and everything else you would expect from a Mario game. Even the end of level warp zones are in there, but they haven't been activated just yet.
The creator also plans to insert Jack Black as Bowser. For now, there's just a placeholder block in his place but he'll "probably" be in the next update. Here's a bit more about this project from the creator and YouTube channel Re-Imagined Games:
"I'm creating a Realistic Super Mario Brothers Remake with Chris Pratt as Mario! This is a preview of gameplay from the first four levels.
"I am a life long Nintendo fan, and I'm very excited for the Super Mario animated movie from Illumination and Nintendo! So, I decided to make some sort of fan project while we're all waiting for a trailer. But, then I started to wonder what it would look like if Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key, were actually these characters in a realistic mushroom Kingdom. That seemed like an incredibly fun idea, and that's why I'm attempting to make this game. With zero game development experience, I'm learning unreal engine from scratch and picking up any other skills that I can along the way, in an effort to make this a legitimately great action game!"
And here's some extra gameplay footage, if you haven't already seen enough:
If you're looking for a more authentic Mario experience, a Super Mario Maker 2 player recently crafted an unofficial "Super Mario Bros. 5" game featuring 40 courses across 8 worlds. You can read more in our previous story.

The Man giving us the goods once again.
Nintendo must hire Mr. Man now.
Funniest sh*t I‘ve seen in a while! At this point I am more excited about the upcoming memes than the actual movie.
Hey the Mario movie is looking pretty good after all!🤣
Already look and plays better than new Sonic!
No deers, no sell

Nintendo's new direction for Mario is strange, but I guess all series have to inevitably tie into their movie counterparts for marketing.
Reminds me of these old classics ...
Most Unreal Engine ‘updates’ take old classics and inevitably turn them into unsettling pseudo-realistic uncanny-valley nightmare-fuel.
Making a game in which that is the whole point is a stroke of genius.
This is way more epic than it has any right to be! Must…. See…. More!
That was amazing
Everyone is talking about how good it is, sure, but no one is talking about that one rouge goomba like seriously, how does his story end!
Joke aside. This has no right being this good, but I love it so much! At least I know, if the movie doesn’t do well, the memes will be legendary!
Honestly this is some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen. The amount of work that went into this is funny on its own. But also playable? I’m dying. 😂😂
It's exactly how imagined a game version of the old Hoskins-Leguizamo Super Mario Bros. live-action movie would be.
Also, just to nitpick, it bothers me that the star wasn't bouncing away and that the goombas just disappear when invincible Mario runs into them instead of falling off the stage.
At 2:08 when he sinks into the lava without having any reaction 🤣
No thanks to all these unreal engine nonsense. This joke died like 10 years ago and putting Chris Pratt in it didn't make it any better.
I really like the camera angle
Looks like PS5 game.
This is what nightmares are made of.
Knowing we're due for a trailer for the movie soon, that thumbnail and headline scared me for a second...
The 3D makes it look like Super Paper Mario for Wii, loved the switch to 3D mode on that game, shame they never carried it on.
Well, I didn't ask for it but I got it.
Legendary. Super legendary
It's not Almost Unreal anymore.
This is just about the only way Pratt should be taking the role off of Charles Martinet.
Well done this person! Too much free time...
I love this so much! Great video too
That narrator makes me feel incredibly happy.
Only problem I have is that the screen's a bit too small. You couldn't even see that 1-Up.
Hey! Isn’t that Honest Trailers’s Epic Voice Guy?
Never thought the Mario movie would look like this. Awesome trailer!
The Mario movie could turn out to look like this, like some modern day version of the cheesy 90s film, and I'd be totally on board with it.
I'm in the small camp that likes the 90s film. It's terrible, but in all the right ways.
So where can i play this new immersive experience??
Did they synthesize the movie trailer guy's voice?
That is some creepy stuff right there 😂
Dang, now I want to play that 😂😂😂
Pd. Wonder what Ninja said that got him banned :/
What everyone expected was some creepy, knock-off mess. What everyone saw was a fan's dream and passion brought to life.
Should be way more zoomed out...
@Browny I’m in the same camp 😂 where I got my name from.
Hahahaha! Everything about this is so bizarre and unhinged.
Holy cow. That's it, that's the comment.
I know the real work was the game itself (which is really impressive) but the commentary on the trailer is so funny
@Purgatorium Yeah I hate those AI voices, they sound so awful.
Looks absolutely shocking on every level!!
How is it that this guy manages to make a pretty spot on model of Chris Pratt and then death stranding can only come up with a greasy plastic wrapped version of their guy
all that love and passion for the franchise and Nintendo will probably send him a cease and desist legal notice
Funny as hell, and actually really impressive! 😂
@Maxz I kept watching purely to see what new horrors were available in every angle on a Goomba's face. It's like Doom and my shih tzu united for ultimate evil.
@Browny
It’s aged like fine wine in my opinion.
I hated it when I watched it as a kid. But I rewatched it last year and I actually adore it now.
The movie is unintentionally hilarious. It’s no Street Fighter with Van Damme. But it’s up there with the best “bad movies that aged very well.”
So does this actually have Nintendo's approval to help hype their upcoming movie? Or are the dusting off their cease and desist cannon as we speak?
First off RIP BloodNinja - one of the users here who wasn't afraid to speak his mind.
Second this looks hilarious at this point I'm looking forward to the memes of this movie more than the actual movie itself.
Wowowow, Honest Trailers guy has some time on his hands!
This....... could actually provide a good target render for future Mario games. But seriously wow, so many production values here XD.
