Re: Video: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Showdown Seen In New Super Bowl Trailer

Hydra_Spectre

It's great that Sega is now in the Hollywood filmmaking business since aside from some Neon Genesis Evangelion films in 1997, all their previous films have been Korean. Sega was not involved in the Rebuild of Evangelion films.

Sega Films is a division of Sega that mostly works in South Korea.

My mother and sisters love watching Korean dramas and movies so they have seen a lot of Sega's Korean films.

I haven't seen a lot of Korean films but I loved the Neon Genesis Evangelion movies as much as I love the series and the Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

Get in the Tornado, Sonic. Or Tails will have to do it again.

Re: Poll: Do You Have An Issue With Xenoblade Chronicles' Accents?

Hydra_Spectre

I really wish more films, shows and games got British English dubs.
From the top of my head, I can list the following with proper British dubs (not just American/Canadian dubs specifically made for a British market):

  • Gamera: The Guardian of the Universe (the other Heisei Trilogy films never got British dubs but we did get a joke redneck dub of Gamera 2: Attack of Legion; it's satisfying to hear the word Gyaos being said in a British accent and the UK dub has rave music for the soundtrack)
  • Arrietty (honestly a much better dub than what Disney/Pixar/Lucasfilm/Amblin did for the American market, too bad GKIDS never released it in the US; ironic considering the film was a Japan-UK-France co-production; the US dub is now dated since it stars Disney Channel teen stars who have faded into obscurity while the UK dub has Saoirse Ronan and Tom Holland in his very first role long before he became Spider-Man)
  • Mary and the Witch's Flower (great that this British dub was also released in the US since the film was a Japan-UK co-production)
  • Inazuma Eleven
  • The Last Story
  • Pandora's Tower
  • Some awful German animated film called Monster Family

Re: Back Page: "My Uncle Works At Nintendo" - The Man, The Myth, And The Mendacity

Hydra_Spectre

"My Uncle Works at Nintendo" is a tale as old as time and a song as old as rhyme.

Also, I have an uncle who married a fairy that showed him that every conspiracy theory is true. Every single secret society and shadow organisation including the Illuminati and the Knights Templar are trying to hide the existence of magic from the world.

The Illuminati is run by a bunch of extremely wealthy witches and wizards (some of which are Reptilians) who hide their secrets of magic from the world, while they plan on bringing forth the apocalypse and commit mass genocide on all non-magic living beings to sate their sadistic pleasures.
They are also doing this to cleanse the world of all muggle scum as magic users are the Aryan race according to the Illuminati. As you may have guessed, the Nazis were a similar group as the Illuminati, except much less secretive about their methods though they still hid their magic.

They have their own leader who wears the skins of humans he killed, has lived since the times of Jesus, looks like a deformed rotting corpse, and is so cruel he would even brutally murder his own people for the most petty of reasons.

Those black helicopters? Actually dragons who camouflage themselves in the sky. And dragons are the trusty steeds of the Illuminati.

The Templar wants to eradicate all magic from the world behind the scenes, they are responsible for the Roswell Incident and the Varginha Incident, the "Greys" are actually a different race of trolls rather than actual aliens. Majestic 12 is just a front for the Knights Templar.

The Illuminati secretly controls the world and every government while they have a shadow war with the Knights Templar.

The Flat Earth is a different realm from ours which is the source of all magic. It is the realm where every single religious and mythological figure reside in. The Bermuda Triangle is also a magical portal able to go anywhere in the universe, including our Hollow Earth and the Flat Earth.

Vaccines apparently unlock magical abilities but one has to know how to use these magical abilities. The Knights Templar has been making antivax propaganda without telling anyone that vaccines unlock magic.

There is an alliance of elves and fairies who want to unmask their own magic and topple the evil of the Illuminati and the Knights Templar. As for what this has to do with Nintendo, my uncle said that they are working with these elves and fairies.

My uncle told me all about this. I asked him about QAnon and he told me he never heard of it from his fairy wife.

Re: Aardman Animations Working On 3D Action-Adventure Open-World Game

Hydra_Spectre

I had a dream that Aardman was working with Kojima Productions and CD Projekt Red on some new games.

There was going to be an open world strand-type life sim game made as a collab between Aardman, Kojima Productions and CD Projekt Red that would be a massive crossover between most Aardman franchises, mostly focusing on Wallace & Gromit, and it would be directed by Hideo Kojima.

There would have also been a Chicken Run Tactical Espionage Action game and an Arthur Christmas Tactical Espionage Operations game produced (but not directed by) Hideo Kojima alongside a What's Up With Everyone visual novel/interactive movie also produced by Kojima.

Lastly, there would have been a Shaun the Sheep platformer and a Rex the Runt point-and-click adventure by CD Projekt Red.

It kinda makes sense, since Hideo Kojima is an admitted fan of Aardman.

Re: Netflix's 'The Cuphead Show' Gets Debut Trailer, Streaming Begins Next Month

Hydra_Spectre

I love how this looks but my problem is the analogue film filter.
If they really wanted to emulate how 1930s animation looked while working digitally, they should not have filtered the series and instead printed the raw digital files out to a high quality 35mm printout then said printout gets scanned back in 4K for the final release.

This is exactly what Dune 2021 did and it looked amazing. It had the crispness of digital film and the nostalgic feeling of analogue 35mm film. The printout process in the 2D releases of the film (the 3D conversions did not go through the 35mm printout process) helped a lot in building Dune 2021's aesthetic, and it should be a process that more films and shows do.

And if you people say that 35mm film is too expensive for a TV show, I'll have you know that HBO's Euphoria is filmed in true 35mm film for Season 2. HBO's Westworld was also filmed in 35mm film.

Studio Ghibli, while I love their films, also falls into this trap for their digital films (starting with My Neighbours the Yamadas), which are similarly filtered to look like analogue 35mm films even for Earwig and the Witch, their first 3D CGI film.
They clearly have the money to issue high quality printouts for a 4K scan but they only reserve said 35mm printouts for Ghibli Museum short films and promotional material for the Ghibli Museum, which still use 35mm film to this day.
It would be much better if Studio Ghibli did not filter their digital films to look like analogue film but rather printed out to true high quality analogue 35mm film similar to what Dune 2021 did. Their analogue films (Princess Mononoke and everything before that) did not fall under this trap and are pure 4K scans of the original negatives (they did not even apply the dreaded DNR which plagues most anime HD/4K remasters) in all their analogue glory.

Re: Best Of 2021: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

Hydra_Spectre

The original Deus Ex is still not on Nintendo hardware, despite being one of the best immersive sims of all time.
That said, Human Revolution: Director's Cut is on Wii U but there are no other Deus Ex games on Nintendo hardware.

Then again, Deus Ex is historically more of a Windows PC franchise.

Re: Soapbox: In Defence Of Balan Wonderworld, 'The Worst Game Of 2021'

Hydra_Spectre

Balan Wonderworld is just Yuji Naka's equivalent of John Romero's Daikatana (well, Daikatana was made under Eidos before they were bought by Square Enix).
Both are Square Enix games made by well-respected developers that went through a troubled production and was an utter failure on release, with terrible ports on Nintendo consoles.

At least Balan Wonderworld didn't have an ad campaign saying that Yuji Naka will make you his b****.

Re: 'Gex' The Forgotten '90s Video Game Mascot Might Be Making A Comeback

Hydra_Spectre

We can all thank Scott The Woz and videogamedunkey for this.

Also, I really wish Square Enix would've brought back Deus Ex for the long-awaited conclusion to the Adam Jensen Trilogy instead of Gex. And also, an official Deus Ex 1 remaster for consoles and PC that would basically be an official release of the Deus Ex: Revision mod.
Maybe a remaster of Human Revolution that has all of the features and fixes from both original and Director's Cut versions would be great as well. We can even have a downgraded Switch port of Mankind Divided and a port of Invisible War.

I would also love a Xenogears: Director's Cut remaster, even if it has to be a Nintendo Switch-exclusive due to Monolith Soft now being owned by Nintendo.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Official Movie Trailer Released

Hydra_Spectre

@HotGoomba Me and a friend of mine (coincidentally enough) had dreams that this happened.
Remember, Toho (Godzilla, Seven Samurai, Your Name., Weathering With You, My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia) is involved in both the Mario and Sonic movies as well as the Monster Hunter movie.

We both dreamed that Toho partnered with video game companies and Hollywood studios in making a Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe.

Re: Garfield Joins Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl "Later This Month" On Switch

Hydra_Spectre

If it's not just Nickelodeon and it can include any character owned by ViacomCBS, I want the following:

  • All Tom Cruise roles in Paramount films (he is easily ViacomCBS' mascot alongside SpongeBob; his films would include Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Jack Reacher, and many more)
  • Movie Sonic (the movie incarnation of Sonic is co-owned by Sega and Paramount Pictures)
  • The Black Lodge from David Lynch's Twin Peaks as a stage
  • Beavis and Butthead
  • Daria
  • Star Trek characters
  • Indiana Jones (for this, they would have to deal with Disney similar to how Smash got Sora)
  • Some Marvel characters (Paramount co-produced some of the earlier MCU movies even if Disney now owns all of the Paramount-distributed MCU films; same deal with Indiana Jones)

And as for proper Nickelodeon characters (or characters who appeared in a show that aired on Nickelodeon or an affiliated channel):

  • Timmy Turner
  • Goku (Dragon Ball Kai aired on Nicktoons)
  • Dora the Explorer
  • Paw Patrol
  • Doug (same deal with Indiana Jones)
  • Danny Phantom
  • Jenny
  • TUFF Puppy
  • El Tigre

Re: Random: Want To Smell Like Sonic? Then Check Out These Official Sega Colognes

Hydra_Spectre

@CactusMan If we can get cologne from Atlus characters, I would want a cologne based around Joker from Persona 5.
Who wouldn't want to smell like a stylish and elegant Phantom Thief.

But out of these smells, I would want the Sonic cologne the best.
I don't like smelling like alcohol or tobacco. I would want to smell like ocean breeze, though, one of the smells in the Sonic cologne.

Also, isn't Ryo a teenager? Why would he smell like tobacco when he legally cannot smoke? Probably from being in '80s Japan, a time and place when everyone smoked everywhere all the time.

Also also, why are they marketing the Shenmue and Yakuza cologne as unisex when they are clearly men's cologne, even being described as "masculine" by the official description?
This reminds me of the time when Square Enix released official Cloud Strife cologne that they marketed as unisex even when it was a reference to his crossdressing sidequest.

Re: Nintendo's American Branch Didn't Like The Idea Of GameCube Being Purple

Hydra_Spectre

The silver/platinum one is definitely my favourite of the regular consoles. I don't like black, dull consoles.
It may not have the testosterone that black has but it has a certain elegance and sleekness to it.

My favourite one would have to be the red Char Gundam GameCube from Japan, its colour of red is striking and I am just a fan of Gundam so I may have a bias.

@The-Chosen-one Lookie here, we have a man of culture.
Only problem is that there is no Component output for the DVD player.

It looks gorgeous but it's much more practical even back then to just get a GameCube and a DVD player separately. And you would even get component cables and 480p/576p for DVDs if you got a higher-end (at the time) model that had Component, but even the PS2 and Xbox had Component for DVD playback.

Back then, Component on DVD players was a rarity, especially in Japan. Only the best models usually had them.
I have a China-made budget DVD player from 2018 and it has Component output.
A PS2 or Xbox would've also worked great for a DVD player, if you didn't want to stick with one console.

Hell, the GCHD dongles are not compatible with the Panasonic Q.

Re: Video: Check Out This Side-By-Side Comparison Of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City On Switch And PS Vita

Hydra_Spectre

@Slowdive The RenderWare engine's very last game would be Persona 4 Golden for the PS Vita and Steam.

I hope someone can repurpose the reverse-engineered GTA code to reverse-engineer Persona 3 and 4 so we can get fan-made homebrew source ports of Persona 3 (that also includes the best of both FES and Portable) and Persona 4.

I am not sure but Persona 1 and 2's PSP versions may be RenderWare too so they could get similar source ports, especially if we get English translated versions of both parts of Persona 2 that can use saves from the previous game.

We would also need that so that we can finally get more mods and source ports of Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, especially since Shadow the Hedgehog was never ported to PC. I am still waiting for my damn PC port.

Re: Rumour: Seth Rogen Will Apparently Star In A Solo Donkey Kong Movie

Hydra_Spectre

@Clamango Too bad Paramount has Sonic and Sony has MGS.
Sonic, Mario and Detective Pikachu, however, are both co-produced by Toho (even if the first one is Paramount, the second is Universal and the third one is Warner Bros.).

Toho should be the one to do this Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe and they would just be collaborating with Western companies. Toho should be part of the MGS movie. It would be Toho's biggest blockbuster franchise and they no longer have to rely on Godzilla, Studio Ghibli or Makoto Shinkai.

Imagine if Toho made a Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe with both live action and animated films. I would really love a sort of Persona anime movie that crosses over the characters of the Persona games and also puts them in this cinematic universe. This universe can also be much more varied than the MCU, with films being as family-friendly and G-rated as Kirby or as gory and R-rated as Resident Evil.
We could also have a Fire Emblem anime based on the Marth games.
What if we also get a new Street Fighter anime film that would also tie in to the Smash Cinematic Universe?
GoldenEye was also once part of Super Smash Bros. (albeit only weapons from the game appeared) so we could even have some James Bond movies in this universe, and MGM and EON already did work with Toho on a Bond film with You Only Live Twice.
Or my personal dream for this: a Zelda movie by Studio Ghibli.

Outside of anime, we can have yet another Resident Evil live action reboot that is actually closer to the games and ties in to the Smash Cinematic Universe.

Illumination is known for making mediocre films that sink the reputation and bar for Western animated films, and their success tends to ruin Western animation more than help it.
I really wish Nintendo just worked with Studio Ghibli for the Mario movie especially since the designer for Mario previously worked with Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, and Studio Ghibli is actually experimenting with 3D CGI with Ni no Kuni, Ronja the Robber's Daughter, Boro the Caterpillar and Earwig and the Witch. And their experiments are pretty good considering how poor most CGI anime usually are and considering they have limitations with each of their 3D films (Ni no Kuni had PS3 limitations, Boro is a very limited-release short film and both Ronja and Earwig are made-for-TV projects, with the former being a full series).
Earwig and the Witch is actually really good in terms of made-for-TV CGI. I would say it's even better than Miraculous Ladybug or The Clone Wars which has been the benchmark for TV CGI. Hell, it's even better than most of Illumination's films.

Re: Random: Chris Pratt Will Also Be The Voice Of Garfield

Hydra_Spectre

Chris Pratt was originally considered to be Tom "Donut Lord" in the Sonic movie before they got James Marsden, they also considered Chris Evans and Paul Rudd.

We could have had an alternate universe where Chris Pratt was in the MCU, a Garfield movie, and both Mario and Sonic movies, but James Marsden had to be a spanner in the works.

I still hope Chris Pratt can be in one of the Sonic movies, he could be a good Shadow and it would be a good break from his usual roles. He could also bring a sarcastic side to his portrayal of Shadow.

I love them both, though. They're both really cool and really hot.

The next milestone for him after being in both Mario and Sonic is to appear in an anime English dub.

Some of his fellow Marvel actors voiced some roles in anime. Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett (both from Thor: Ragnarok) were both in the English dub of Ponyo; Christian Bale (soon to be in Thor: Love and Thunder) was in the English dub of Howl's Moving Castle; Tom Holland was in the British English dub of Arrietty (his very first film role too, long before he became Spider-Man); while Samuel L. Jackson produced and starred in Afro Samurai.

Re: Castlevania Advance Collection Gets Updated Rating In Taiwan, Dracula X A Surprise Addition

Hydra_Spectre

I am happy that they included Dracula X as a bonus game but I would've been happier if this was a GBA+DS collection which also includes Harmony of Despair with all DLC while the Dracula X games (Rondo of Blood, Vampire's Kiss, Symphony of the Night) being their own collection with their own bonuses (especially if we get the Sega Saturn version of Symphony as a bonus but without the slowdown, like what some hacks do).
Even better if they even do a collection of the 3D games like Legacy of Darkness.

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

I would love to see a Dante and Knuckles with Mario movie directed by Hideo Kojima and Rian Johnson with a ridiculously long title and tons of expectation subverting.

It would be the ultimate memefest. Then give it a sequel that is completely unrelated other than the name with another ridiculously long title and still directed by Hideo Kojima and Rian Johnson. Sony Pictures should produce it.

It would be the ultimate meme comedy.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Is 'Coming Home' To A Nintendo Console Via Switch Online

I would prefer it if the remasters were here and they edited the Nintendo product placement back in.
I would also really love remasters of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark on Nintendo Switch with gyro controls, a toggle between the original and remastered graphics, surround sound, rumble in GoldenEye, the option for modern Switch controls and retro N64 controls, and all of the ultra-widescreen options of the original N64 version.

Re: The Super Mario Movie's Release Date And Cast Are Revealed

Hydra_Spectre

@Silly_G It is still a Japanese co-production with Nintendo, and as usual with almost all Universal and Illumination films since 2009, with Toho (of Godzilla, your name., and My Hero Academia fame).
That said, they should've made it a 2D anime with Studio Ghibli with animation similar to the Famicom cover art, which was drawn by an animator who worked on Studio Ghibli's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Studio Ghibli can also do pretty good CGI with Earwig and the Witch (it was limited due to it being their first fully CGI production and being low budget since it was made for TV, a theatrical CGI film from Ghibli would look much better than Earwig) so Nintendo should've just got Studio Ghibli to do the Mario movie in either 2D or 3D, though I would still prefer 2D.
If Studio Ghibli can't do it, then Studio Ponoc can, since they were also made up of former Ghibli animators.
Hell, I would be down for a Super Smash Bros. cinematic universe by Studio Ghibli/Ponoc with the Sonic movie in 2D animation similar to Sonic CD's FMVs, a Mario movie, a 2D Detective Pikachu movie (made as a co-production between Ghibli and Pokemon's animation studio), and a Metal Gear Solid movie designed after Yoji Shinkawa's artwork.

I think Makoto Shinkai would be a terrible fit for a Mario movie. But Nintendo teaming up with Illumination and Toho is great since Illumination is quite popular in Japan (one of the only popular non-Disney Western animation studios) and Toho is the biggest film company in Japan, beating even Disney. 2020's highest-grossing film: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, was distributed by Toho. And Toho also has a history with working with Universal with King Kong vs. Godzilla, King Kong Escapes, and even AKIRA.

Re: Castlevania Advance Collection Gets Updated Rating In Taiwan, Dracula X A Suprise Addition

Hydra_Spectre

In Japan, Dracula X was called Dracula XX as a side-story, Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night are part of the Akumajou Dracula X subseries and they were released on PSP as part of The Dracula X Chronicles, which did not include Vampire's Kiss/Dracula XX.

Also, it would be a real disappointment if the DS games are not included in this collection. Especially since Dawn of Sorrow is a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow, which is in this collection.

The Castlevania Advance Collection should include, in my opinion:

  • Vampire Killer (1986, MSX2)
  • Castlevania Chronicles (1993/2001, Sharp X68000/PSone)
  • Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (Rondo of Blood/Dracula X/Symphony of the Night/Rondo of Blood Remake) (1993/1995/1997/2007, PC Engine CD/PSone/PSP)
  • Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (2001, GBA)
  • Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (2002, GBA)
  • Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (2003, GBA)
  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (2005, DS)
  • Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (2006, DS)
  • Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (2008, DS)
  • Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (2010, PS3)

No 3D games but I would be open to a collection containing only the 3D games.

Half-Life 2 Remastered Collection is a real thing but not quite what you expect.
It is an upcoming fan-made mod of Half-Life 2 and its Episodes with upgraded lighting, tons of bugfixes and a commentary mode while still staying true to the original game unlike most remaster mods.
It has been made with Valve's consent and while it's not out yet, it is happening.
It is the next version of the pre-existing Half-Life 2: Update mod.

Re: Soapbox: Space Jam 2 Is A Video Game Cash-In That Doesn't Quite Get It Right

Hydra_Spectre

The real Chad film from 2021 about a virtual world would be Mamoru Hosoda's Belle: Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime.
It's not exactly about a video game but it is about a 3D virtual world/social media site (think Second Life, Fortnite Party Royale or VRChat but 3DCG anime) and the story is basically Beauty and the Beast but in a virtual world.
The film received a 14-minute standing ovation at the Oscars, it is definitely better than Space Jam 2.
