Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 20th)

HexagonSun

I've been stuck on playing nothing but 3D Mario games for the last week. I'm mainly playing 3D World, Sunshine, and I started a new game of Odyssey. I might get to Crash 4 this weekend, but I'm not always so good at predicting what I'll actually play. I'll also be watching Star Trek and reading Dostoyevsky. As always, there's always plenty to keep me occupied. Perhaps too much.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Re: Memory Pak: Looking Into The Light In Super Mario 64

HexagonSun

To this day, Mario 64 is still my all-time favorite game. I was a teenager when it came out and coming from 2D games, there was nothing like it. A major part of the challenge was just learning how to properly control Mario in the third dimension. Like all great Nintendo games, there were so many little secrets that made exploration so rewarding.

Re: The Guys Behind Streets Of Rage 4 And Scott Pilgrim Are Making A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game

HexagonSun

This is potentially exciting news. TMNT was a big part of my childhood. I still have the original cartridges for the arcade game and Turtles in Time. If the new one is even close to being as good, it'll be an instant classic. As long as it comes to Switch, it's a day one purchase. Hopefully, it will get a physical release.

Now we need a sequel to the Simpsons arcade game. I would settle for the original, though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 6th)

HexagonSun

I've still got about 30 shines to collect in Bowser's Fury. I'm about to finish MGS Twin Snakes on the GameCube. I've really been feeling like Zelda lately. I started new games of BotW and TP, so I'll be playing those, as well. I also started new games of Diddy Kong Racing and DK64 on my N64. Plenty to keep me busy.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

HexagonSun

As someone who has put in well over 100 hours into 3D All-stars, I definitely got my money's worth. It was an anniversary collection. Nintendo obviously has other plans for the titles. Nintendo maybe a little overprotective of their IP, but it's understandable. It's their most valuable resource. If you really want these games in this specific collection, they're widely available. Limited time releases aren't anti consumer. Especially when they're announced from the beginning as being limited.

Re: Feature: Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link Taught Me The Value Of Perseverance

HexagonSun

I have a soft spot for Zelda II. I still have the original NES cartridge, but I don't have the patience or time to beat it on the original format. I had it when I was a kid, but didn't actually beat it until the 3DS VC. The music is so iconic. If any Zelda game deserves a remake, it's that one. There's a really great game hidden under the archaic mechanics. It's amazing how well the first game holds up today in comparison.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 27th)

HexagonSun

I finally started Bowser's Fury this week. I'm very impressed. It feels very different from the other exploration based 3D Mario Games. There's also a big nod to Super Mario Sunshine, which I find pretty cool.

I'm still playing Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes on my GameCube when I'm off work. It's slow going, but it scratches the itch for MGS nicely.

I have a desire to play through the original Legend of Zelda with the original cartridge on my Retro USB AVS. I want to play through all the Zelda games this year, so I'll start with the NES original.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Re: Yooka-Laylee Developer Playtonic Games Teases New Reveal Coming "Soon"

HexagonSun

I wouldn't mind another 3D Yooka Laylee, myself. I would also love a spiritual successor to Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. The first Yooka Laylee might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it felt like a Rare N64 game. That was the point. The sequel felt like a true successor to the SNES DKC games. I can't wait to see what they'll do next.

Re: Street Fighter II Turned 30 At The Weekend

HexagonSun

I used to stand in line at the arcade to wait for my turn to play Street Fighter 2. There was a second monitor above the cabinet for watching matches. I mowed lawns for a summer to buy the SNES original. It's hard to believe it was so long ago. I count myself lucky to be part of that generation. It was a fun time to be a gamer.

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario 3D World Is The Closest To A Super Mario Bros. 2 Sequel We'll Ever Get

HexagonSun

Great article! It inspired me to fire up Super Mario Bros 2 on my Retro USB AVS. It's still a fantastic game. Super Mario Bros 2/USA was always my favorite 2D Mario. I still remember being so excited for its release. It was so different from the original in that it gave the player a lot of freedom to explore. I always felt that Super Mario 64 was a follow up in the amount of freedom it gave the player. I can't wait to play through 3D World again.

Re: Nintendo's Paper Mario Series Is Now 20 Years Old

HexagonSun

Despite some misfires, Paper Mario is still a great series. Origami King was definitely a step in the right direction. Having just played through Thousand Year Door again, it's still the best in the series. I hope the next game will see the return of the classic turn based battles.

Re: Feature: Every 2D Super Mario Game Ranked

HexagonSun

It's not my personal list, but they're all truly great games. SMB was my first console game and SMW was the first game I worked hard to 100%. I have good childhood memories attached to all of the older releases. SM2/USA will always be my favorite.

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

HexagonSun

My Wii U is hooked up, but I still want all my favorite games ported to Switch. I have much more time to play Switch over Wii U. I hope Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are brought over to Switch soon.

Re: Poll: Which Is Your Favourite Nintendo 64 Console Variant?

HexagonSun

I like them all, but ultimately the charcoal grey is my favorite. I still have one hooked up via an Eon Super 64 adapter. I have a lot of nostalgia for the N64. It was the first console I bought myself as a young adult. I'm over the whole mini plug and play console fad, but I would still jump at an N64 mini.

Re: Feature: Remembering Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World’s Oft-Forgotten Predecessor

HexagonSun

I replay 3D Land often. It's my favorite 3DS game. I can't imagine playing it without the 3D effect, so I don't know how I would feel about a remake. The whole game revolved around stereoscopic 3D. It's still a joy to play and I would honestly rank it a little higher than 3D World. It looks great with the New 3DS super stable 3D. This article makes me want to play through it again.

Re: Best Of 2020: Star Trek On Nintendo Consoles - Where Are The Great Star Trek Games?

HexagonSun

I'm a huge Star Trek fan. I'm sick and in quarantine right now and binge watching TNG and DS9 for the millionth time.

Unfortunately, I haven't played a good Start Trek game. The 25 anniversary NES game was okay when I was a kid, but doesn't really hold up well today.

I've thought about buying Bridge Crew for my Oculus Quest but I'm a little put off by it being multiplayer only. I wish it had a single player campaign.

I could see Star Trek doing well as a point and click adventure, so hopefully we'll finally see a great game that lives up to my favorite television series.

Re: Random: Banjo-Kazooie Creator Reacts To Duo's Bittersweet Cameo In The Latest Smash Trailer

HexagonSun

I still play the original two on my N64 with an Eon Super 64 adapter. I would love it they were ported over to Switch. No fancy remake required. Whatever happens with the series, I hope it makes it to the Switch/current Nintendo system. That's where it would be most appreciated.

In the meantime, I've really enjoyed Yooka Laylee. Both games are fantastic and definitely give the BK vibe.

Re: Random: These Nintendo Box Art Wood Carvings Are Simply Sensational

HexagonSun

@NintendoPete I'm probably about halfway through chapter 8. At least I think so. It's been several years since the last time I played through it. It's slow going since I only get a chance to play on my days off. I always had good feelings about TYD, but I forgot just how great it actually is. As far as Paper Mario goes, it was the perfect storm.

Re: Random: March 31st 2021 Is Becoming An Increasingly Depressing Day For Mario Fans

HexagonSun

I honestly think this is being blown out of proportion. I won't be surprised if Nintendo sells the Allstars games individually or adds them to NSO. It's just limited as a collection. Nintendo may want to develop Mario 35 into a full fat retail game, depending on how it preformed. The game and watch was always going to be limited. It's a celebratory collectors item. A Wii U game getting it's online multiplayer shut down isn't surprising. There's already a sequel being supported. I really don't see anything to be upset about. Personally, I'm hoping there will be a similar celebration for Zelda.

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

HexagonSun

My Wii U will remain hooked up even though so many of it's exclusive games have been rereleased on the Switch. It's one of the best, if not the best systems for local multiplayer. Add Wii backwards compatibility and the virtual console and there's still plenty of life in Nintendo's most under appreciated home console.

Re: Poll: Which Will Be Your Second Console - PS5 Or Xbox Series X?

HexagonSun

Accessibility is king, for me. I mostly only have time for Switch. I have so many games in my backlog, I'm not even concerned with anything new. My home console time is mainly for retro consoles. Right now the GameCube is my go to console on my days off. Since getting my GameCube HD adapter, it looks great on my 50 inch 4k.

Re: The Origami King Is Now The Fastest-Selling Paper Mario Game Ever

HexagonSun

I'm playing Origami King on the go and Thousand Year Door at home right now. They're both excellent games. I like the battle system in TYD better, but OK has better exploration. I would highly recommend Origami King to anyone on the fence. Chances are, if you enjoyed the first two Paper Mario games you'll probably enjoy OK.

Re: Soapbox: An Ode To The 3DS, Nintendo's Workhorse Console

HexagonSun

I have a 3DS XL, New 3DS, and a New 3DS XL. I absolutely love the system. I still carry my small model New 3DS with me wherever I go. I have a game case that holds both Switch and 3DS games and still play my 3DS quite a bit. One of my favorite gaming memories is the first time I booted up my 3DS on launch day and saw the logo pop off the screen. I know 3D isn't for everyone, but I still find it impressive in a way that resolution and fancy graphics will never touch. When implemented well, the 3D effect is so immersive. There's just so many great games on the system too. I doubt I'll be retiring mine for years to come.
