Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2020

HexagonSun

I would love to see some Metal Gear Solid. Any of them will do at this point, though I still haven't played Phantom Pain yet. Twin Snakes could really use a remaster as well. I'd also love to see the HD Zelda games, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime Trilogy, GTAV, Final Fantasy XV and VII remake, Pikmin trilogy and the Shemue trilogy. I would settle for at least a few of these.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Looks At How Certain Wii U Games Might Run On The Nintendo Switch

HexagonSun

I really thought we would have had 3D World by now. I finally started replaying the Wii U version because I'm tired of waiting. It will still be a day one purchase for me. It has the best multiplayer in a Mario game, by far.

I also really want the HD Zelda games, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Star Fox ported over. Just bring over every exclusive Wii U title, Nintendo. I don't have enough time to play on tethered consoles anymore.

Re: Alienware Reveals Switch-Like Device Capable Of Playing PC Games

HexagonSun

@Doktor-Mandrake I prefer looking at it as Nintendo games retain their value. At least part of that is due to so many people still wanting to play their games, even years after they release. Mario Kart 8 is a prime example. I can understand that it would be frustrating when you just want to play their games without spending a lot.

@StevenG I love my Switch and I play it portably a lot. I've had the same one since launch and haven't noticed any of the problems you mentioned. No matter what you think of the build quality, it's a brilliant concept. There's no way it would have been the success it is now if it cost hundreds of dollars more. A successful hybrid is going to have to make concessions in order to stay competitive. If you're willing to pay so much more, it seems you're exactly the sort of customer Dell is looking for with its Alienware portable. It's a niche item that wouldn't make it if didn't play already established PC games.

Re: Alienware Reveals Switch-Like Device Capable Of Playing PC Games

HexagonSun

@Doktor-Mandrake Perhaps games and accessories, but not consoles. I'm talking about launch prices here. PS4 launched at $399. Xbox One launched at $399 and $499, depending on the model. This Alienware portable will probably launch for considerably more than that. The Switch is still $299 or $199 for the lite. I'll agree that costs can add up quickly if you're buying a lot of games and accessories. Nintendo usually keep their consoles affordable. That affordability is part of the allure.

Re: Switch Pro Rumours Resurface As New Report Claims Mid-2020 Release For New System

HexagonSun

It's hard to predict what Nintendo will do next. If they release a pro, I'm ready to buy it, but I don't think it's a good idea. I think it would be better to wait until a Switch 2 can be released at a reasonable price. I've said it before, but I think if Nintendo really want a stopgap, an upgraded dock is the way to go. It won't affect people with the lite and it won't alienate people who just got a Switch in the last year. It could just make the Switch a little more relevant when hooked up to a 4k display.

Re: More Than 40% Of Switch Owners In The US Have Another Video Game System

HexagonSun

Of the big three, I only have a Switch. If Sony were to release a portable or hybrid (that they're willing to support and doesn't use proprietary memory cards) I would totally be interested. I just don't have the time to play games tethered to a single room anymore. The Switch has enough third party games, that I don't feel like I'm missing much. I got an Oculus Quest for my secondary system and it offers a completely different experience and travels with me.

Re: Analysts Agree That Switch Will Be King In 2020, Less Sure About The Switch Pro

HexagonSun

I think rather than releasing a Switch Pro, Nintendo should release an upgraded dock that improves performance on the TV. Maybe it could upscale games to look better on 4K displays. This could satiate those wanting performance improvement without splitting the user base. It could even allow for attaching an external hard drive for optional high resolution texture packs. I'm not sure how that would actually affect the switching between TV and handheld. It might not be as instantaneous, but it could be a better solution that doesn't damage the Switch brand.

Re: Talking Point: Witcher 3 Gave Switch Fans Fresh Hope For Multiplatform Releases In 2019

HexagonSun

This is the first generation I ended up passing on a PlayStation as my secondary console since the PS1. I got an Oculus Quest to go with my Switch because I just don't have the time to be tethered to a single room for gaming anymore. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I'm not impressed with the demineshing returns of more power. There's plenty of great third party games on Switch and I'm sure there will be plenty more. More than half of my Switch games are third party games. Switch is the first Nintendo system where the gimmick isn't actually a gimmick. Portability is very practical. Not everyone has hundreds of hours to sit in their living room and play videogames. I hope that third parties realize that there are a lot of Switch only gamers who will pass on their games if they aren't released on Switch.

Re: Feature: The Game-Changing Nintendo VR Headset That Never Was

HexagonSun

I would love to see Nintendo get serious about VR. They could create the perfect software to really make VR take off with the masses. Maybe with Switch 2 or 3 they'll finally be ready to give it a serious shot. Even if it was only 3dof it could still be amazing. The technology has already come a long way. I love the Oculus Quest, but mobile VR would be so much better with that Nintendo magic.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

HexagonSun

My days of playing games of this size tethered to a single television set are over, so I welcome finally getting a chance to play Witcher 3. Being my age, I really don't care about graphical fidelity as much. It sounds like it runs well enough and it's a technical achievement that it's on Switch at all. I haven't played this game, so my only real concern is the combat. I hope I can get into it. I miss the days when most RPGs were turn based. Oh well. Back to DQXI.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th October (North America)

HexagonSun

I haven't had a chance to to play Witcher 3 yet, so I'll be picking it up physical. I won't start it though until I'm finished with Dragon Quest XI. I'm only 40 hours in, so that might be a little while.

For anyone who's played Witcher 3, is the game similar to Skyrim?

Re: The New Switch-Exclusive Bubble Bobble Will Include The Original Classic As Standard

HexagonSun

The original Bubble Bobble was one of my favorite NES games. I still love to play it on my AVS. I have a lot of great memories of playing co-op with friends. There was a cabinet at my local skating rink that I'd play regularly too.

I've been waiting for the arcade original on Switch forever. I'm a little nervous about the emulation considering Arcade Archives isn't handling it. Still, the inclusion makes the reboot a day one buy.

Re: Looks Like Nintendo Might Be Hiring Developers For A New 2D Mario Game

HexagonSun

I would love to see Nintendo do a 2D Mario with an art style similar to Wario Land Shake It. Give it hand drawn graphics in the style of the 80s/90s artwork. It's time to take the 2D series in a new direction

@BarefootBowser I would love to see a sequel to SMB2 as well. It's my favorite of the original trilogy. It's differences from the rest of the the series still make it a stand out entry.

Another 3D Mario is pretty much guaranteed. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a port of 3D World first. It's a no brainier and would be a perfect fit for the Switches focus on local multiplayer.

Re: Hardware Review: Big Hands, Meet The Hori Split Pad Pro for Switch

HexagonSun

I've had mine since launch and I love it. I use it whenever I'm playing in handheld for an extended amount of time. It makes the Switch as comfortable to hold as the Wii U gamepad was. It really feels every bit as good a pro controller. It has an excellent dpad. The analog sticks and buttons feel great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who spends a significant amount of time playing handheld.

Re: Switch Lite Added To Joy-Con Drift Class Action Lawsuit

HexagonSun

@Xelha I have the Daemon x Machina joycons and they're very comfortable. The analog sticks are standard full size sticks, so I don't foresee them having a drifting problem. I imagine these will be my most reliable joycon, which makes the $50 price tag more than worth it.

Re: Bloodstained Switch Updates Expected To Launch By The End Of November

HexagonSun

I only put a couple of hours into the Switch version and it seems like a really good game. I already purchased the game, so I'm fine with patiently waiting. They definitely made a mistake releasing the game before it was properly optimized for Switch. I have so many other great games to play through, that I probably won't have a chance to play through Bloodstained until the beginning of next year. As long as it's optimized by then, I'm fine with it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 28th)

HexagonSun

I just beat Link's Awakening in time for Dragon Quest. I ended up liking LA remake a lot more than I thought I would. It was a pure joy from start to finish. It probably helped that I hadn't played through the original in about ten years.

I'm looking forward to really digging into DQ XI. I'm a huge fan of the series and I was very impressed with the demo. It's an awesome time to be a Switch owner.

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart Tour Is Certainly Dividing Opinion, But Why?

HexagonSun

It's important to remember that Nintendo are catering to a different demographic with their mobile games. They tried the straight up approach with Super Mario Run and it failed. The FTP model with gacha mechanics is what mobile gamers want. I don't like it, but the casual phone gamers seem to embrace this model and only this model. I'm not sure if there's another way to make money off of this type of gamer. At least we're still their main focus. I'll happily enjoy full games on my Switch and leave phone games to others. Nintendo seems to know better than putting all their eggs in mobile phone games. It's a bubble that's sure to burst. In the meantime they're free to milk it like any other for profit company.

Re: Review: Super Mario World - Phenomenal Platforming Perfection

HexagonSun

@Antraxx777 Nostalgia certainly plays a part in how I view SMW, but it really is something special. I wouldn't say Nintendo doesn't make games like that anymore. BotW and SMO (as just a couple of recent examples) really capture that playfulness and the feeling of a "game within a game". I'm just not a kid anymore, so they don't hit quite the same way. I still get those moments of child-like wonder when playing a great Nintendo game. That's why I'm still such a huge fan after so many years.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Lite - Half A Switch, But That's More Than Enough For Some

HexagonSun

As attractive as the Lite models are, I'm sticking with my launch day Switch. I play on different TVs between a third and half of my playtime. It would of been a no-brainer if they actually allowed docked play. As it is, I already have a d-pad joycon and the new Hori pro joycon, so the included features don't cut it considering what's lost. It sounds like a great system for a different demographic.

Re: Prototype Wii Nunchuk Controller Included A Rumble Motor, According To New Photos

HexagonSun

The Wii got and still gets a lot of flack for it's untraditional controls, but, for the most part, I loved it. It did 3rd/1st person shooters and rail shooters/light gun games better than anything currently. It was also an important step in the evolution of VR. Wii motion plus got close, but we finally have one to one motion controls in VR systems like Oculus Quest. It's not surprising that a lot of the same genres that worked well on Wii work great in VR.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo GameCube

HexagonSun

I was one of those diehard Nintendo fans that waited in line at Toys R Us for hours to get a shiny new black GameCube on release day. I got Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Squadron with it. Coming from the N64, the graphics were really impressive. Both launch titles really showed what the GameCube was capable of. It was only a few years later that I finally picked up a PS2 for a few key titles (FFX and MGS2) and my first DVD player. The GameCube remained my main console for the generation. I really felt like Nintendo was misunderstood at the time. There were so many great games for the console that still hold up remarkably well today. I convinced more than a few PS2 only friends to pick one up after they spent some time with it. Hopefully, we'll get to see some of it's better titles rereleased on Switch some day.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

HexagonSun

I love the GameCube. It would be nice to get some of these great games on Switch, or Switch 2, or maybe Switch 3. It's like Nintendo is waiting for every fan to give up hope.

Re: Review: F-Zero - The Game That Sold Us Mode 7

HexagonSun

I was one of the lucky kids in my neighborhood to get an SNES at launch. Until that Xmas, I only had Super Mario World and F-ZERO. The graphics were amazing for the time. It truly felt like arcade quality graphics on a home console. Things like parallax scrolling and mode 7 were jaw dropping coming from the NES. So many SNES games have aged so gracefully. F-ZERO remains an excellent game and an example of what the SNES was capable of.
