If you're a fan of 3D platformers of yesteryear, one game you might want to keep an eye out for in the future is TY The Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue HD.
At the start of this year, Australian developer Krome Studios launched a Kickstarter for this HD version, and it reached its goal of $75,000 USD in just 8.5 hours. To remind fans it's still en route to the Nintendo Switch this year, Krome has now released a new trailer:
According to the Kickstarter page, the estimated delivery date July 2021. In the meantime, you can always try out the HD version of the original game, which got a release on the Switch eShop last March.
TY 2 was first released on the GameCube, PlayStation 2 and original Xbox in 2004, and published by EA Games. The sequel is an open-world adventure featuring more boomerangs, mechs and "more everything" - with the task to stop the evil machinations of the "diabolical Boss Cass".
Is this a game you think you would be interested in playing on the Nintendo Switch? Tell us down below.

I want to know what are the different features between Ty 1, 2 and 3 ?
I have Ty 3 Gamecube version but the game looks blurry on my Wii.
Really enjoyed the original game back in the day but this one doesn’t look much like a traditional 3d platformer. How much 3d platforming is there?
Sad to see these games that were once published by one of the big players had to resort to crowdfunding in order for it to be ported to modern hardware.
I'll consider a physical edition, which probably won't happen until any other sequels have been ported as well.
@Anti-Matter apparently ty three is quite a bit different from the first two. More combat focused
@Silly_G It's probably for the best that EA isn't involved this time. Imagine having parts of the game locked behind paywalls.
@Anti-Matter ty 3 is way edgier.. there's melee combat and a combo system in that game.
Ty 1 and Ty 2 are very similar, just the first one is a hub world + multiple worlds collectathon (mario sunshine, spyro, lego star wars, etc) while ty 2 is a more open and mission based collecthon with practically the same gameplay for the most part. Ty 3 is more open and mission based like ty 2, except the combat added melee combos which take up a majority of the combat actually, more vehicle segments, and overall its kinda all over the place.. whether thats good or bad depends on who you ask i guess.
@Freddyfred
The original has more 3D platforming than the 2nd and, as others have said, is much more of a classic collectathon platformer (Spyro is probably the best comparison IMO). The 2nd definitely has platforming but brings much greater gameplay variety, with a greater focus on vehicle missions, but you should know that both are, like Spyro, very "chill" experiences: there's no challenging platforming or enemy encounters, collectables are not really hidden, these games just have a very satisfying feel to play, watch, listen to
When I read the title, all I could think of is Rule 34...
It looks fine. The first one was more of a traditional 3D collectathon, and I do love collectathons, so not sure if I'll like the second one as much.
I remember enjoying the original a fair bit when I was young but I already felt a little too old to play this one when it originally came out so I never bothered.
Was it any good?
I played through a lot of this on the ps2 but never finished it. If I wasn't interested back then I doubt I will be now. The first was good but I think this one just got boring. I never got to play #3, though, so I would be more interested in that.
@Freddyfred If you enjoy roaming around a somewhat open hub world looking for level entrances that don't seem to exist, then wait 10 minutes every time you want to go in/out of the only town (at least the only one I ever found) then this is the game for you! I believe a lot of the collectables respawned as well, which is a pet peeve of mine in these old platformers. Just make stuff cost less.
Never played this game, but it actually looks pretty fun! I might give it a go.
I've only played the first one, but it's hard to recommend when there are so many other truly great 3D platformers on Switch. Only a hardcore fan of the genre is going to get anything out of it.
@DrDaisy Nah, EA would publish a sloppy and overpriced re-release of the first game and decide the fate of the franchise based on that.
Nice! I read an interview with a guy from Krome saying they would like to bring HD versions of 2 and 3 to the Switch. Hopefully 3 will come as well.
it could go either way in terms of quality, but at least it's a 3d platformer on switch. There aren't that many good ones if you have Spyro, Hat in time, Odyssey
@Anti-Matter It is because the original version of the game was clearly not designed for these newer and better flatscreen HDTVs!
Oh sweet ^3^ I love this series so much ♡3♡
"launch trailer" but releases in July.
@DrDaisy I think EA only published the first one.
@brandonbwii According to GameFAQs and Wikipedia, TY The Tasmanian Tiger 2 was also published by EA. The third game was published by the other tyrannical titan Activision before Krome published the fourth game and remakes themselves.
@DrDaisy It was actually Vivendi who was later bought by Activision but yeah.
