Re: Review: Dodonpachi DaiOuJou Blissful Death Re:Incarnation (Switch) - Poetic Bullet-Hell Perfection

Honestly, it's rather frustrating to see how this can't get a western release, yet brick and mortar places have tons of borderline shovelware on the shelves, the eShop gets literal asset flips and shovelware with names like "Counter Call of Medal of Strike Honor" and the limited run publishers do their best to make a expensive limited edition out of every semi-solid indie that is rightfully 10$ on the eshop...

Re: Sega Plans To Revive Even "More" Legacy Franchises

@Thomystic
About great 3d beat'em ups, i think the Dynamite Deka series is very good, people generally seem to love the first one that was released as Die Hard Arcade in western countries.
Sega really should have made that game Steets of Rage 4 and the sequel SoR 5 (with some changes to the characters and settng of course).

Sega's SpikeOut and SlashOut series also feel a lot like good spiritual successors to SoR and Golden Axe.

Also, there's Yakuza's combat.

Played a lot of Air Twister, love they musical-like feeling. The controls could be a bit tighter, but everything else is relly how i like it.

I'll also try to put some time in the shmup/rhythm game hybrid Noisz which i got from the JP eShop, i really hope NL will review it when it comes to Europe (or do an import review).

Re: Review: VISCO Collection - A Well-Presented Neo Geo Arcade Set With Online Play

EmirParkreiner

Some ok games, some mediocre features/emulation, that's what one can expect from the combination of QBite and Visco.
However, as a collection this is a nice little history lesson, particularly considering Andro Dunos 2 turned out very good, so it's nice to have the original available.

From the perspective of giving attention to good/interesting stuff that might otherwise fly under the radar, i think i'd rather have seen a review for one of the recent Arcade Archives releases or the recently released Deltazeal.

Re: Review: The Rumble Fish 2 - A Cult Classic Fighter Gets A Great Port

EmirParkreiner

So, is there even a European/UK version of that collector's edition?

Importing from Japan seems unattractive because of the included included print material which i wouldn't understand , importing from the US seems unattractive because i don't have a US eShop account to access Rumble Fish 1 and the DLC fighters.

On a sidenote, it's quite ironic one of the three DLC fighters is named Greed...

Re: Deathsmiles Collection Gets A Western eShop Release At The End Of The Month

EmirParkreiner

@masterLEON
About DeathSmiles II, i wouldn't say polygon graphics are inherently bad for shmups, but Cave was not very experienced with polygons when they made DS2.
I mean, Ikaruga, Border Down and Under Defeat look great... and Cave not even being able to match the quality of Dreamcast shmup polygon shmup graphics made DS2's look on the 360 even more disappointing.

Re: Mini Review: DoDonPachi Resurrection - Same Great Game, Same Old Problems

EmirParkreiner

While i personally would still rate it 9/10, i definitely agree that considering the complexity of the gameplay and the wealth of mode and features, the game definitely does not do enough to explain anything.

Honestly, i think that pandering exclusively to people who have a lot of experience with shmups and going out of their way giving modes and versions strange names is a general problem with Cave games.

Re: Earth Atlantis Is Getting A Physical Edition In North America

EmirParkreiner

This is nice and all, but i think reporting on how Eschatos and Illvelo Swamp come out on Switch in Japan this week is the more important event for Switch-owning shmup fans right now.

I mean, Illvelo Swamp even gets a physical release, and importing a game from Japan/Asia is not more of a hassle then importing a game from America for the large EU/UK part of your readership.

(Don't get me wrong, it's really nice your reporting on physical releases of small games like this, i just think considered the Switch is region-free, NintendoLife's coverage of interesting japanese releases could be expanded.)

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - October 2021

EmirParkreiner

It was a great month for the eShop with gems like The Good Life, Fatal Frame 5, Gleylancer and Voice of Cards.

However, my favourite was rRootage Reloaded, which NintendoLife sadly has not reported on at all so far. It's a really cool minimalist shmup with game modes based on Ikaruga, Psyvariar and Giga Wing.
