Hideki Kamiya’s "Very Sorry Stream" just wrapped up and if you're wondering why it was called that in the first place, it's because PlatinumGames has had to delay its upcoming shoot 'em up, Sol Cresta.
Kamiya broke this news very early on in the stream. While the game was originally locked in for a 9th December release but has now been pushed back. There's no date just yet, but Kamiya says it's "not possible" to launch the title by the original date anymore. Here's a rough translation of what he had to say:
"The release date for Sol Cresta of December 9th...working hard to make that date, but very sorry but that release date has become not possible. I apologise very sincerely from the bottom of my heart...We are very sincerely sorry for making you wait further.
"...We really do apologise for delaying the game, but some schedule issues, some quality issues that we want to focus on, make sure that everything's right, and we came to the tough decision of delaying the release."
Hideki and his co-workers further stated how development needed a bit more time, and hoped fans would understand. At this point in time, there's no other information regarding the game's release date.

Comments reciting Miyamoto's "delayed game" quote incoming.
A 1 hour stream for a shmup is enough time to show the entire game lol.
Cool. Make it good, make it right.
I want to make jokes, but the game actually does look pretty fantastic.
Thank Gods! For a second there, I thought Kamiya committed a crime or something.
Just make it better than Terra Cresta II and Terra Cresta 3D as they are average at best.
Moon Cresta is one of my favourite looking games on the Switch Oled! Simple but comes to life on that screen!
@Erigen well, they did delay a game, and that's always a crime with fans.
I filed a complaint, but it got blocked by Kamiya. But seriously, I'm more than happy to wait on a game that looks like it will be really good.
A developer that delays a game past Christmas deserves respect. They sacrifice a lot of potential sales for the game to be playable at launch, which isn't common nowadays.
Fans in general are a lot more forgiving about delays these days, but I think the practise of a company not announcing a release date until they're 100% sure it'll be ready needs to be used more. The days of Final Fantasy and the Last Guardian and Spider-man and Crackdown 3 or Beyond Good and Evil 2 being promoted for years before release doesn't do anyone any favours. Do we really need more than 2 or 3 months lead up time to know we want a game?
I think it makes Nintendo insisting Bayonetta 3 not being shown too early makes a lot of sense.
Are things okay over at Platinum Games? 😟
They're taking in a lot of projects, which is resulting in a lot of delays.
It reminds me of the last two years at Telltale.
They need more time to add annoying mechanics, probably not enough multitasking and cheap deaths yet
Oh well, might as well release the game on April 1, 2022...
The good news is that tate mode is confirmed now.
Also, Gleylancer and rRootage just came out and Gynoug, Eschatos, DeathSmiles 1&2 and Illvelo Swamp are still on the way this year, so as a shmup fan i certainly can't complain about a drought on the Switch.
@MrGawain i think they're usually prodded by the console creators to announce games ASAP, to try & sell consoles, so people will be able the see their "favorite games" & know they're coming to that particular platform. The Bayonetta 3 request was indeed unique, but hopefully it sells extremely well so that console manufacturers see that it's not a hindrance to wait to show big titles like this (though, it still probably won't change their behavior or expectations in reality, sadly).
I don't think anyone except casual gamers get mad about delays these days. Gamers usually know what it means if they release the game on time, even when they're not finished or confident in their product, & would rather avoid getting a glitch filled mess just because it's released "on time". Sadly, this is usually do to publishers wanting their return on investment, & they probably blame the developers for not working hard enough or without problems during development. The publishers are strictly interested for profit, & don't consider games the art most gamers do. The publishers want their money, even if it means the customers have to put up with a little jank. I've heard them say if they gave the developers all the time they needed, games would never release, so they have to have hard deadlines, etc. I wish there could be some middle ground, at least. I know AAA devs of games of proven franchises can get this middle ground, sometimes, but not smaller studios, or unproven AAA games, usually. I can understand both sides, but i really wish developers could self-publish always, because we get the game most authentic to the artist's original vision in those cases, most times.
Meanwhile, it's been nearly 2 years without any news on Wonderful 101 kickstarter DLC (Luka's 1st and 2nd missions). What the hell is happening with Platinum?
I'm not sure why a delay to improve a game is such a tough decision. I would have thought deciding to release it half assed would be more painful. Lol, imagine that. The very sorry stream. 'I'm really sorry. The game is a mess. Please buy it day one.'
Anyhoo, I don't think Platinum is a massive studio, but anyone else think they seem to have loads of projects on the go at the same time? Dunno, maybe they are bigger than I thought.
Looking forward to playing this so much. I love Moon and Terra Cresta to bits. But I'll happily wait for it
