Re: Review: Arcade Love: Plus Pengo! - A Unique Bundle Of Japanese Zaniness

EmirParkreiner

Nice to see this one getting a review on NL, it definitely deserves some attention. It's a really good fit for the Switch, both because the Switch is the new king of shoot'em ups and because of the great 8 player local multiplayer experience Pengo! provides.

I imported it from Play-Asia when it launced and i'm having a good time with it i personally would rate it 8/10.

@GFoyle
RXN -Raijin- is 16:9 and was developed with that aspect ratio in mind from the ground up.
While Radirgy Swag isn't 100% 16:9 because uses relatively slim borders for various information, it's pretty close.

@xxx128
We got some pretty good new releases from teams that have a strong history of developing actual japanese arcade shmups.
Try:
Radirgy Swag (from the successor team to Milestone, the developers of Radirgy, Karous, Illvelo and Chaos Field, which in turn was a team with former Compile staff that worked on Aleste)
Rolling Gunner (former Cave developer involved)
Sisters Royale (from Alfa System, developers of Castle of Shikigami trilogy, the game feels like a smaller spinoff compared to the main games, but is good anyway)

Also, Caladrius Blaze and Raiden V (from Moss) and Arcade Love Plus Pengo! (from Triangle Service who made Trizeal, DeltaZeal, XIIStag) are coming soon and are not all that old.

Re: Review: Psyvariar Delta - A Classic Shooter That Will Leave You Buzzing

EmirParkreiner

As someone who owns this game on Switch since it's japanese release last year, i have to say that while i mostly agree with the text of this review, i find the score highly problematic.

Psyvariar Delta absolutely deserves a 10/10 in my opinion, and seeing how other shmups scored on NL i really think anything lower then a 9/10 really is misleading people.

I mean, this is the same score the mediocre Q-YO (or whatever it's named, i already forgot) got for being a somewhat working shmup with some humor.
Many Psikyo shmups got this score, and while those are roughly on the same level of pure gameplay quality, they are incredibly barebones compared to Psyvariar Delta.

I'm sorry, this is currently the best shmup on the Switch by a landslide, and the text of the review does not seem to disagree, yet the Final score is a 8, while tons of others also got an 8 and some even a 9, this doesn't make sense.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Shmups

EmirParkreiner

Glad to see this list was updated to include the new king of shmups on the Switch, Rolling Gunner.

However, NintendoLife should really also give some attention to Quad Fighter K and the 2 excellent japanese eShop exclusives Sisters Royale and Radirgy Swag.

Re: Review: Contra Anniversary Collection - Run 'N Gun Perfection

EmirParkreiner

Pretty awesome collection, but i really hope they make Contra Collection 2 with Shattered Soldier, Neo Contra, Rebirth and Hard Corps Uprising.
All those later games, particularly the PS2 games SS and Neo were just as good as the originals, but sadly few people gave them a chance after getting burned by the 2 outsourced PS1 stinkers Legacy of War and C: The Contra Adventure.

On a sidenote, it's interesting how the interview with the director of Contra III and Hard Corps foreshadows the new Contra game that got announced at E3, Rogue Corps.
It's not only that he says he's back in Game development. He also mentions that he worked on the Turtles Games, and the new game has some Turtles refferences (the Krang-like alien in the female character's stomach and throwing enemies at the screen.
Also, he mentions he recently found out Contra is popular in China, and now the new game has a Panda character.

Anyway, i'm very hyped for the new game with the Contra III/Hard Corps/SS/Neo man directing it, despite the obvious lack of budget for the graphics.

Re: Random: Respawn's New Star Wars Title Is Inspired By Metroid And Dark Souls

EmirParkreiner

@Damo
I think this is simply a matter of priorities.
I mean, it's clear that because of the mention of Metroid Prime, it can be justified to put an article like this on a Nintendo-centric website.

However, NintendoLife isn't like those blogs (GN, MNN...) that report on anything that is slightly related to Nintendo.
There are good Switch games that got little to no coverage on NL, and it's frustrating to see NL reporting on something like this Star Wars game being mildly inspired by a Nintendo game, while good actual Switch exclusives like Quad Fighter K, Radirgy Swag or Sisters Royale get completely ignored.

I mean, yes, Sisters Royale is JP-only, but the Switch is region free, and a new exclusive shmup from the creators of the famous Castle of Shikigami developers is something people should know about, as opposed to that Sonic-themed curry that makes people poop blue (which NL reported on despite the product being JP-only from what i remember).
