Re: Review: Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth - The Last Picture Show

Discipledoctor

As a completely pitiable persona fan I have really been enjoying this, even more than Q. This fixes the major problems with the first - the dungeons (so far, I’m almost done with the third) haven’t had any really annoying puzzles or gimmicks and the battle system is way better balanced - there’s no required Naoto here. There’s also a way to level up unused party members so you’re not totally screwed by leaving someone behind.

And of course it’s got all of the character interactions and fanservice you could want. Really good stuff.

Re: Talking Point: Does The Nintendo Switch Game Voucher Programme Offer Value For Money?

Discipledoctor

It’s an unbelievable value if paired with discounted eShop cards, and still a pretty good value otherwise (reckoning by US dollars). One set of vouchers pays off your yearly sub, plus gets $5 back. If you buy cards that get discounted to $42.50 every now and then, then you can end up paying about $85 for two brand new launch titles if you so choose. I’d like to see a retail deal beat that!

Presumably there will be a couple new pre-purchases added after E3, but it’s stupid that it ends so early in the US. I’ll probably end up buying a few sets though - I can easily think of six upcoming Nintendo-published titles that I’ll want, so it’ll be worth it.

Re: Talking Point: Detective Pikachu & Let's Go Are The Keys To A New Pokémon Audience

Discipledoctor

My hope is that the existence of Let’s Go means that the “real” games can be aimed at more serious players. The lack of any real reason to train powerful teams - outside of the same copy paste battle tower that’s been around longer than my youngest brother (who can drive) - is really a killer towards getting engrossed in the game. B2W2 was great as the medal system rewarded and recorded all kinds of different goals, while the earlier games with Frontiers gave different approaches to battles. Ever since XY that element has been gone, and with a simpler game out I’m hoping that maybe SS will break the trend.

Re: Movie Review: Pokémon Detective Pikachu Does Enough To Break The 'Bad Video Game Movie' Curse

Discipledoctor

First time in my life that I’ve ever bought movie tickets early, for the “day before” showing as well! Tomorrow evening can’t come soon enough. Heck, I’m exploring downtown St Louis and working on the new Pokémon GO movie-themed challenges right now lol.

The only other good video game movie, that I’ve seen, is Ace Attorney. But as much as I love the franchise, I can’t imagine it would make any sense to someone who hadn’t already played the games. Glad to see that this is its own animal.

Re: Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers Officially Confirmed For Switch

Discipledoctor

There must be some sort of contract keeping the main game on PS5. I cannot fathom why they would allow Joker in Smash (and why Nintendo would allow it) and then bring this over but not P5R. I will admit that it would be a huge reveal and maybe Nintendo wants to announce it on their terms, but I doubt it.

I’m no businessman, but I can’t imagine that it would hurt them financially to bring the game over to the console that’s about to overtake PS4. I should stop griping though since I have a PS4 and can access the games anyway lol.

So glad it’s not a stage play.

Man I just don’t know. Good to know the load times aren’t so bad. I see some negative reviews but I wonder if those are from people who don’t “get” the genre. Like how Hyrule Warriors got middling reviews but I put hundreds of hours in between U and 3DS, or how Pokémon Explorers of Sky has a middling metacritic but IMO is the best Pokémon spinoff out there by a long shot.

I guess I’ll wait for a few more reviews from players. The main things holding me back are the fact that there’s so many tech issues and the fact that the real deal (for me), Rune Factory, is coming out. It’d be a different story if it wasn’t confirmed yet.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Direct Rumoured For This Week Could Be A Perfect Send-Off For Reggie

Discipledoctor

GamingIntel is a load of bunk, but unfortunately I do agree that this is a likely week (unfortunately because of it happens then it’ll give credence to them).

It’s been two months since the last one and two months until E3, they could announce all of the pre E3 release dates (Cadence of Hyrule and Mario Maker 2 are the main ones), and obviously it could have Reggie saying his last words for Nintendo.

I kinda hope he opens up a Twitter account or something. He seems like a pretty funny and down to earth guy, and since he doesn’t have to worry about his status in a company i bet he could make some pretty good commentary and jokes on world events. Well, surely he’ll just want a nice long break from the spotlight, too.

Re: Nintendo’s E3 2019 Website Goes Live

Discipledoctor

My favorite time of the year, no lie. All the hype and build up is always fun, even if the actual event isn't too hot (personally I haven't been a big fan of any of them recently - 2017's only saving grace was the Mario Odyssey trailer and 2018 was half patch notes, half stuff we already knew)

Hoping this year is the big one. Every year leading up to E3 I always do a reread of the entire Archie Mega Man comics line for some reason, it just so happens that yesterday I did the math to find out when I would start it again. Can't wait.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February

Discipledoctor

Undoubtably the first Direct that I’d rate 10/10. It had a strong start with Mario Maker 2 which will release around E3 and make June an exciting month. We had some strong 3rd party reveals including two Dragon Quest games, plus lots of demos and even a free Tetris game. Then at the end there was a “one more thing” followed up by “the REAL one more thing”.

And more importantly, RUNE FACTORY IS BACK!!!!

Re: Feature: A Pokémon Retrospective: Generation 7 - 2016 To 2019

Discipledoctor

In my opinion Pokemon’s been a constant stream of disappointment since XY lol. I know I haven’t lost the magic because I loved B2W2 that came out just a year prior.

I just hope Gen 8 goes back to focusing on actual new Pokémon instead of gimmicks, decent side/post content (contests, movies, battle frontier, etc), routes that are interesting to explore, and providing a big adventure without all the constant interruptions. BW were the peak storytelling for me - it was there and it was enjoyable, but ultimately it was just a fleshed out story unlike the railroad that SM were.

And also I hope we get more intesting spin-offs. I enjoy GO, especially when the weather’s nice, but it’s not worth losing Mystery Dungeon for. Feels like all we ever get now are free-to-play crap games.

Re: Legendary Has Already Begun Work On A Detective Pikachu Sequel

Discipledoctor

Lots of folks revealing they have no business sense here today. The first film is going to be a smash hit, I don’t see how that’s even debatable. For starters, it’s Pokemon, so it’s inherently going to do well. But they also seem to be pretty well invested in the franchise with Pokémon from every generation and all kinds of little references just in the first trailer.

It’s easy to say that they’re being arrogant with this, but look from another perspective: since the movie will be a hit, shouldn’t they be planning a sequel to come out ASAP to capitalize on that? It makes no sense to sit around and wait a few years before putting out the next movie when they could pump them out and make tons of money.

I have confidence that this will be a good movie. Probably not the best I’ve ever seen but what little we know is promising. I just have to find a way to justify going to the theatre on opening night to watch a Pokémon movie...

Re: Soapbox: Don't Listen To The Pokémon: Let’s Go Haters - The Game Has Definitely Found Its Audience

Discipledoctor

It’s already been brought up but Joe’s a total con - pirating the games and blowing off real leaks are just part of the fun.

That being said it’s also pitiful how you blow off people who dislike the game as “haters” - there’s a lot to dislike. The graphics are incredibly disappointing for 2018 standards and the game can’t even hold a decent frame rate. The post game is a joke and doesn’t even have the freaking battle tower that’s been in every game in some form or fashion since Crystal. There’s no real new areas added to Kanto other than Go Park, the enemy trainer’s teams are small and pathetic, the battle system has been way tuned down, online play with randoms is all but gone - what is there to love?

I poured hundreds and hundreds of hours across the DS games but I only put maybe 70-80 in XY and the bare minimum to finish the SM Pokédex. Didn’t even buy USUM. It’d be one thing if Let’s Go was a one-off exception to the norm but the series has gone downhill since XY. I hate seeing one of my favorite series go downhill like this but I’m not going to waste money supporting what it’s become.

Re: Review: Dragalia Lost - A Deep And Rewarding Smartphone RPG That Might Just Surprise You

Discipledoctor

@Kurusu My man. You even have a 10/10 profile picture.

Personally, I’ve played every day since launch and have dropped only $8 on it. It’s a very well made game with full voice acting for the story and non-voiced side stories for literally every single obtainable character and dragon. They’ve constantly have events going on that really use the co-op well and are great about fixing the games issues and way overcompensating fans. Now, are they just trying to butter us up to get us to open our wallets? Maybe. But CyGames apparently has a really good reputation and Nintendo has their brand name to protect too.

As an aside, the Halloween event that was mostly single-player focused? I could only beat the hardest stage with a 3-star character. None of my 4-stars worked because of their weapon types but the 3-star kicked ass. Just goes to show how everyunit can be useful rather than needing the best of the best.
