Re: The Mini NES Classic Edition May Have Some Neat Display Modes

DarthKirby

NES pixels were just a bit too wide to be called square. When they are made square, the game screen is not quite as wide as 4:3, leading to all the narrow gameplay videos. The 3DS can play SNES (and theoretically NES) games in "pixel perfect" mode because it has the same vertical resolution, not including overscan. Fitting those pixels evenly on a 1080p screen is a bit more problematic.

Boulder Dash had the miner apparently walking through the maze, with boulders rolling down when the dirt/treasure below was cleared. There are additional elements here, but the base game play
is exactly the same, down to the rocks rolling to the side when there's no support.

Re: Review: Mega Man Legacy Collection (3DS / 3DS eShop)

This was an extremely generic review. Was it even played on a 3DS? The NES had a vertical resolution of 240 pixels, same as the 3DS. Granted, some of that was lost in the overscan on the old TV's, so trimming it at the top and bottom is regularly done to hide the rough bits that were never intended to be seen in the first place. Still, that doesn't account for the large top and bottom borders in the screenshots, and the HD border art. Cut out the screenshots that don't come from the 3DS, and tell us how it plays. Can I use A to jump, and B to fire? Can I play it on the bottom screen instead of the top?
