CryZENx is back with another impressive Unreal Engine concept remake of yet another well loved Nintendo 64 franchise. Feast your eyes on the following footage of the Captain's old faithful Blue Falcon speeding at over 1,000 miles per hour around Mute City.
Would you like to have a new F-Zero on the Nintendo Switch? Or do you think a modern reboot on one of the older games would make it fly of the shelves faster? Go fast to the comments section and tells us all about your love for F-Zero (we at NL have certainly done so in the past).

now we need a true F-Zero. right now Nintendo.
That was... dull.
We’ve need a new true F-Zero for too many years now. I think it’s time.
That's not a good video to promote a reboot. I like the look of the F-Zero tracks in MK8 better. Or Fast RMX.
A new F-Zero please.
Wait for Retro Studios to announce a proper new F-Zero game
I applaud the effort, but it looks bland, the camera seems off (viewpoint too low), no real sense of speed, the surrounding environment doesn't "feel" right, and overall, this just isn't Nintendo-like.
I was more impressed by his Zelda efforts, but these too ultimately missed that certain something.
I suppose that's the Nintendo Difference...
The thumbnail for this article filled me with a little bit of hope for a moment, but now it has been thoroughly dashed pieces. I will return to my corner and wishing for a new installment in this series.
F-Zero GX already looked way better than this. That game could be ported over as-is, and it'd still play and look awesome.
Did everybody miss the astonishing new F-Zero game that was released last year on Switch... under the title "Fast RMX" ?
Meh. Only thing impressive about this are the multiple cars in the sky, but there are no other cars on the road, and the fish-eye cam is dreadful. Other than that, GX looked better. Had more polish. This is a bland mess.
It's time we have a new F-Zero already!!
Reminds me, I haven’t given RMX any love in quite sometime....
@KayFiOS It's a concept, it's just a way of demonstrating some ideas to show what might be possible, it's not meant to be a full polished level. Think massively pre-alpha before a project is even greenlit.
Looks like ass.. just remaster / update the GameCube title for the switch ffs
@Natzore Retro is doing Mother reboot.
@Shufty This is the same guy who did the Unreal Engine Ocarina of Time and Diddy Kong Racing videos, right? All those other videos looked twice as good as this, at least.
Since playing Fast racing RMX everything just feels slow in this genre now. Maybe Shin'en would be open to do the next F-Zero game.
At this point an HD remaster with online featutes of GX would make me one happy person.
Looks horrible!
I’ve only discovered the series recently, I’d love a new game
Looks worst than Fast RMX and F-Zero GX. If it came out looking like that then it's best for it to stay dead. F-Zero is known for it's superb graphics and intense fast speed, this did not do that justice.
My heart is breaking from all these "it looks bad" comments, mostly because:
1) I know YOU could not do better.
2) I know a single guy did all of this.
3) F-Zero X on N64, the template for this is just as barren.
CryZENx has been doing a ton of these for years now, how do you think he would feel if he came over here and read all these negative comments (u)that completely miss the point(/u), almost as hard as Nintendo is missing out on a lot of moneys by leaving the series dormant all these years.
Come on guys, everyone has the right to their personal opinion but I still expected more from you.
@Shiryu If he had the skills then best if he makes his own original game instead of trying to tease us with crappier version of existing ones.
@retro_player_22 As I mentioned above: heart breaking. =(
Nothing special.
Am i missing something? It looks worse than F-Zero X (N64) and far, far worse than F-Zero GX (Gamecube). I'm not surprised however. Unreal Engine always (to me) looks too cold and clinical, none of that Nintendo warmth.
No offense to the creator of that, but it should definitely have more polish than this - even for one of these ‘concept ideas’
"Would you like to have a new F-Zero on the Nintendo Switch?" - yes, yes I would. And throw in Pilot Wings as well while you're at it.
Although I've been loving Nintendo's output recently, some old franchises are in desperate need of a reboot.
@JaxxDuffer Pilotwings needs a proper comeback.
@Shiryu Well, for what it's worth: I meant no personal offense to the guy, and I welcomed the effort, as I stated in my original comment, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this is a lesser achievement compared to his previous ones, and that it looks bland.
There's something about Nintendo games, that makes them... well, Nintendo. And apparently, no one else can replicate that, not even Sony or Microsoft, much as they would like to, so it's no small wonder that a single programmer also can't achieve that.
But on a brighter note: this did make me relive fond memories of the real F-Zero, even though it also made me realize that I REALLY miss having a game in that series on a modern Nintendo system, even though FAST Racing Neo comes somewhat close.
Everyone wants a new F-zero... instead we get wii u ports
Fast Rmx is my fzero
@Shiryu Tough to see how hard of a time he gets from some people, especially since the Nintendo community is one of the friendlier ones out there. If I'm not mistaken, I originally found him and became a fan through an online article featuring one of his videos.
Looks a bit rough and could use the polish but I'd play it. Been waiting for F-Zero to return for some time now and while FAST RMX is good, it does not feel like F-Zero
That was a let down.
New F-Zero!! PLEASE!!!! And thumping remakes of the tunes not cheesy 80s rock versions! The full fat Direct needs to have word of this!!
Is this a joke? This doesn't look like Unreal engine at all!
It's using the same muddy textures from back in the days and has no anti-aliasing.
It's probably just the original played in an emulator in 1080p.
F Zero has been ignored for sooo long now that I’d take anything at this point be it a brand new iteration or a remastered classic F Zero of either the N64 or Cube entries!! Cmon Nintendo work it into your development schedule already!!
@Shiryu
Now you know as I feel when I see that kind of comments here... sigh...
Well, now, about the topic, well, if the project results in a game available to play; and without offending anyone, it's just a curiosity; if Nintendo decides to remove it, it is probably that now a F-zero developed by (well, with the support of) Nintendo is on the way; exactly as it happened with Metroid 2; well, as I said, it's just a curiosity.
Mostly F-Zero X with about 16 new tracks and the 4 best ones from GX (there weren't that many good ones). Plus a track editor!
@Tibob Just because someone else made a game that's kinda similar to F-Zero, doesn't mean fans have a new F-zero game. Imagine if Capcom stopped making Mega Man games for 8 years, then someone else came along and said, "I'll make a Mega Man game!" and gave us something that only kind of resembles an actual Mega Man game... Oh wait...
@Pazuzu666 Unreal Engine is just a game engine. How games made in it look is up to the developers. The new Yoshi game is being in Unreal too, so that contradicts your last sentence.
@KayFiOS
You could also compare that to Yooka-Laylee, which was less of a disaster. And there's plenty other examples.
Then if the point is that you need Captain Falcon in the car, then yes : Fast RMX will not satisfy you.
I'm going to suppose this was intended for VR, based on the geometric distortion.
@Tibob If I cared what character was in the car, I wouldn't choose Twin Noritta so often in GX (Gomar and Shioh are so ugly), but I would like a game that lets me destroy the 29 other racers in my custom built death machine made with parts obtained through all my hard work in Story Mode, complete with my handmade trollface sticker plastered all over it. Imagine if Fast RMX was released as an F-Zero game. Nothing about the game is changed except the vehicle models. Fans would consider it a massive step back from GX, and even X. I'd rather see how F-Zero can evolve past GX.
@SaKo does it? The new Yoshi game looks exactly as I described previous, devoid of warmth and character.
This was highly disappointing. And the geometry distortion was utterly painful.
Does one have to be as skilled as the creator to be allowed to criticise a creator's work? That's a stupid argument.
@Shiryu

If one cannot criticise a creation here on Nintendo Life without having skill as great or greater than the creator, then I'd like to mention that's normal in other circles. Like in visual arts, music, literature.
