Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero

ChaoticIgnorance

I picked up Mario Kart 8 for the Switch this week (a nice Prime day sale) and I forgot not only how much I loved the game when I put 80 hours into it on the Wii U, but how much I hate it for destroying any possibility for an F-Zero sequel.

Especially considering I was reminded of how much MK8 feels NOTHING like F-Zero despite having occasional zero gravity, and tracks that loop upside down. It's such a tease and I hate how much fun I'm having, while also crying because it's not what I REALLY want.

Re: Microsoft CEO Says He Would "Love To Get Rid Of" Exclusives On Consoles

ChaoticIgnorance

If there were no exclusives I would simply own a Switch for the portability, leaving both Sony and Microsoft out of luck with my business. Because otherwise there are a number of practices that those companies employ that I'm not a fan of.

Sounds to me like Microsoft only gets my business if it HAS exclusives because I'm picking up an Xbox Series X because I want to play Starfield.

Re: Soapbox: Modern Zelda Dungeons Are, In Fact, Divine

ChaoticIgnorance

To each their own, I guess. I felt the dungeons in BotW were forgettable, at best. While I've only done the Ruto dungeon in TotK, I feel it's mostly the same. They are a slight bit better, but I'm still not as impressed by them as I was some of the dungeons in Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess.

Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Players What Kind Of Game They Want Pikmin 4 To Be

ChaoticIgnorance

@DanijoEX

Oh man, I'm the opposite. Pikmin 2 is the black sheep of the series because I'm not a fan of the bland cave levels and the day cycle is what Pikmin is all about. It was nice though, that Pikmin 3 wasn't as strict as the first game was. You were given a significant number of extra days if you wanted to use some to simply mess around and enjoy yourself.

Re: Games Like Zelda - What To Play After You've Finished Breath Of The Wild

ChaoticIgnorance

I've only played a handful of the games mentioned here, but if I'm being honest nothing has ever been a 'Zelda clone' to me, or captured the essence of a Zelda game.

To me, Zelda is not about the dungeons, the puzzles, or the combat, though I will admit that if any of those three are missing, then the game is lesser for it (looking at you, BotW, with your missing dungeons). For me, Zelda is about the atmosphere and the world. The whimsical child-like charm of the characters and the brooding evil (though not too much) undertones. Games like Tunic NAIL Zelda in just about every way, but fail to have a similar feel to their world.

I would say games like Stardew Valley or Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life have more in common with Zelda than a lot of these games mentioned. Even Star Fox Adventures (a game hated by most, but loved by me personally) has more in common with Zelda than these games.

As others have said, these games are fantastic, but most of the time they simply make me wish I were playing a Zelda game. I'm here "patiently" waiting for someone to figure out the Zelda formula.

(Eastward comes pretty darn close though, I have to say. My GotY last year next to Deathloop).

Re: Talking Point: Is The Golden Age Of Licensed Music In Games Over?

ChaoticIgnorance

Two of the biggest influences on me were Fallout music and Endless Ocean on the Wii. The former opened up an entire world of music for me and I now constantly listen to 1920's-1950's music. Like, all day every day.

With Endless Ocean I was introduced to Hayley Westenra who is now one of my favorite singers and who got me into other female vocalists.

Re: It's Summer Time In Harvestella As Square Enix Shares A Heap Of New Info

ChaoticIgnorance

For some reason this one didn't grab me as much as the remake of A Wonderful Life. The latter is my favorite Harvest Moon pre name change and while I don't love the art, I'm still excited to pick it up.

Harvestella feels very much like a Rune Factory type game, but I can't put my finger on what I don't love. I wasn't aware there was a demo though, so I'll have to go check that out.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Mind If Nintendo Retired The 'Big' Nintendo Direct Format?

ChaoticIgnorance

I hear a lot of people say that game announcements get lost when too many things are announced at the same time (an argument against a returning E3). However I find the opposite true for myself. If a game is announced on a random Tuesday afternoon, I'm more likely to miss it or have little to no excitement when I do find out about it. Big reveal showcases (and E3) are necessary in my eyes to build the hype.

Re: Random: Retro Studios Clashed With Metroid Producer On Halo Influences

ChaoticIgnorance

How ironic that the third Prime (while not terrible), is really rather forgettable when compared to the previous two. Maybe if they tried copying a good shooter, like Half Life 2, then they would have had been success.

Jokes (or are they?) aside, I think Nintendo's philosophy is a really good one, and we probably wouldn't have gotten a lot of games if it weren't for this tactic. There's a reason Pikmin is an RTS, but nothing like other RTS games. There's also a reason Splatoon is a shooter, but unlike any other shooter. Keep this type of design going Nintendo!

Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Fan Of The Art Style In Zelda: Wind Waker

ChaoticIgnorance

Ironically I still can't stand the look of Twilight Princess. Other than a few story moments, and a couple of memorable moments (dungeon of time), the whole game is so forgettable and I think one of the weakest in the series.

Wind Waker is such a freakin gem and I never understand how anyone could hate the look of it.

Re: Redout 2 Gets A Release Date And Snazzy Trailer, Online Limited To Six Players On Switch

ChaoticIgnorance

Yeeeeaaah, still doesn't do it for me. It looks like it may be faster than the first game (but it's been a while so I don't know for sure), but there's something still off about it, coming from an F-Zero fan. The cars are too big, there's not enough of them, the tracks don't seem to be wild enough...Still waiting for my F-Zero replacement if Nintendo won't give us a sequel.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Star Fox Game?

ChaoticIgnorance

Honestly, I've never found the Star Fox series enjoyable. I wouldn't say they are bad games because I can definitely see how they can be fun for others. But for me, rail shooters have always been kind of meh, unless I'm outside my 90's cinema shooting zombies.

Star Fox Adventures though...Something about it just felt right. I had so much fun and it was so similar to other great games on the Gamecube. It will always be my favorite of the series.

Re: Soapbox: Playdate Sold Out In 20 Minutes - Is It Time For A New Nintendo Handheld?

ChaoticIgnorance

The Switch has a few positives going for it with regards to 'diluting' both console and handheld markets together. Animal Crossing and Pokemon are two games that I have a significantly more fun time playing on the big screen and I can't stand the fact that the better games appeared on handhelds.

That aside, Nintendo's handheld are freakin awesome and the Switch doesn't feel quite right in that regard, regardless of it's impressive library and ability to play games like Mario Odyssey and BotW on the go.
