[Update: Wed 25th May, 2022 19:00 BST]
The day is finally here! Eastward's physical release is available to purchase from iam8bit, with limited inventory — so if this is a game you want to get your physical mitts on, here are the links:
- Amazon — Eastward Physical Edition (includes game cartridge, box)
- iam8bit — Eastward Collector's Edition (includes game + box, Eastward board game, limited to 3,000)
- iam8bit — Eastward Vinyl Soundtrack & Board Game (2x LP, board game)
Here's some info on the board games:
- First-of-its-kind package, featuring the official Eastward Board Game for 2-4 players, designed by Erich Meyr
- Includes: Foldout Board, 15 Ingredient Cards, 10 Item Cards, 8 Miasma Cards, 4 character standees & instruction pamphlet
- The board game components can be COMBINED with the Eastward Vinyl Soundtrack/Collector's Edition, serving as an expansion. Play them separately OR together!
- Board Game illustrated by Ryan Brinkerhoff
Apparently, the two board games are separate, as the website states:
What’s even cooler is that the thematic nature of the game’s two lead characters John and Sam, inspired us to design something that wasn’t just standalone, but could also pair with the Eastward Nintendo Switch Collector’s Edition as an expansion pack to the board game experience.
YES, that’s right - there are TWO board games, each entirely self-sufficient — with unique playfields, cards and characters — but together they create even more rad tabletop fun times! We encourage you to try them both out!
And here are some images:

The gorgeous, retro-inspired RPG Eastward will finally be making its way to where it belongs: A physical version, to sit on our nerd-shelves just like its inspirations Earthbound and The Legend of Zelda.
Publisher Chucklefish, developer Pixpil, and physical publishers Skybound Games and iam8bit have all teamed up together to create a special edition of Eastward for the Nintendo Switch, which is available to pre-order now from the iam8bit website for $34.99 / £29.99, alongside Collector's Editions and a vinyl pressing of the soundtrack.
It's also appeared at 365games in the UK for slightly under RRP:
Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our FTC Disclosure for more information.

The regular physical edition also includes a chibi sticker pack, but it looks like it won't include a manual, which is a shame for those of us who really love retro guff (but probably for the best — our collection is too big as it is).
The game will begin shipping on May 24th 2022.
Will you be adding Eastward to your collection? Let us know in the comments!

Different stickers than the Japanese release too. Nice.
The collector's edition is pretty diesel. It comes with a board game.
Cool, iam8bit teased this many months ago.
I already got an Asia copy imported anyway.
My favorite game of last year.
Got the japanese collector's edition a couple of months ago
Just get it at Play-Asia, you get the game sooner than iam8bit.
I literally just caved on the Japanese edition on Saturday
PAL / UK pre-orders?
can't find them
@ViewtifulCool
iam8bit's previous Switch physical release for Spiritfarer was sold through Game.co.uk.
I checked on a hunch and sure enough, they have it listed.

Only seems to show up through a direct search rather than browsing their site at this time.
@RupeeClock
Getting "Generic Application Error" on that link.
I found it though on their terrible website, thanks. Also spotted on TheGameCollection cheaper at £25.95, will probably go for it there

@ViewtifulCool
I figured something like that might happen, their product listings appear to be designed to specific to each visitor with the obnoxious number of query string parameters that you can't remove to produce a working link.
Good to see that it's not limited to just one UK retailer though!
How do I know if a game is exclusive to a certain manufacturer? I bought Streets of Rage 4 from Limited Run, thinking that it would get a psychical release in Europe, then like 6 months later after I got the game it released in ordinary stores in Europe.
@RupeeClock
ha-ha yeah, no worries. their (game's) website is a joke, i don't know why half the games you want to find are not listed on the Switch pages! you have to find them by searching exactly what you want!
I will keep an eye out, i'm sure it will go up on other online retailers soon, base.com, shopto.net.
@KateGray I'm curious to discover if all patches and updates will be baked into the western release. I could be convinced to double dip, give my Japanese copy to a friend.
Anyone knows if it will be released in Europe mainland too (so i won't have to pay extra shipping and import fees)?
It seems the $34.99 version is only available at Target here in America :/ (as a continent). If someone else knows where to find it let me know
Can only see a US listing for the vinyl…hope they make a cheaper one without the board game and make it available everywhere, that soundtrack is amazing been wanting it on vinyl since it came out
How about they give the game a new update and flesh out the story some more! Soooo many unanswered questions :/
@switchscreenshots did you mean to write "pretty diesel"
Any idea where this is being sold through in Canada?
@GuyProsciutto yes
@ViewtifulCool Nice one, I hate Game, and £35 was seeming excessive. £26 is a much more acceptable figure and takes the doubt out of my mind about whether to order or not.
Too bad I already bought a Japanese version, this just upsets me
@Iron65 Yeah, sucks for Canadians We don't have Target and I don't want the 100 dollar board game edition.
Seems like all of the indies I wanted a physical of are releasing this year! Currently, I have pre-orders for Axiom Verge 1+2, Death’s Door, Ender Lillies, Paradise Killer, Record of Lodoss War, and now this!
@switchscreenshots I suppose that's one way to view it. To me it's not that the Collector's Edition comes with a board game but rather the Collector's Edition IS a board game that just so happens to include the physical copy of the game. I'm sure many ppl will like this but for me personally I just wanted an art book, maybe a poster and or a figure, like the standard things. I can't see myself playing the board game with my friends that don't even know or care about what Eastward is.
@javiboy2 I get that. I just thought the board game was a unique thing. An art book for a game like this would be awesome. I really enjoyed my playthrough. Hopefully they have fixed the crashes. I had to learn the hard way to constantly save my progress.
It looks pretty good but it will start hitting sales and dip in price before long. So I'll be playing that deku deals waiting game.
This is the most polarizing indie I can remember since Edith Finch. Worth playing or no?
Probably worth playing, but it felt tonally very strange to me. There's one part near the beginning where the story gets incredibly dark, and then that's not even really acknowledged in any way. It sort of felt to me like it was written by aliens, I'm not gonna lie. And even beyond that, for my tastes it went on longer than it needed to. I was at what I'm almost sure was the last level, and I died on some sub-boss and thought, you know what? I just don't care enough to try that again. And that was that.
I feel like most people that really wanted this physically already got the Play-Asia version
Article mentions $34.99 but I can't find that anywhere. Help please.
@Bizzyb
Feel again! Like with Ender Lillies, Bug Fables, Inmost, Spiritfarer, Death’s Door, Ori x 2, Hyper Light Drifter, Narita Boy, Astalon, Panzer Paladin, The Touryst (waaaait for it.!), etc., I always hold out hope! I am obsessed with physical; I cannot lie!
Helps that I: don’t hate ANY of these boutique businesses (faithful US buyer, here), fully accept the (sometimes ridiculous) mark up as yet another detriment of my increasing OCD, and have a mountainous backlog to sustain the, often, inordinate wait times for reception. 4 years on from purchase, and My collection is looking GOOD! It looks so good, in fact, I might start reviewing games on YouTube just to properly display these, mostly NA, beauties.!! Don’t forget to leave a comment...ha!
Nice! Want to get the game!
My amazon copy just came in last night. Excited to try it after 13 Sentinels
Removed - unconstructive
@SuperSparker Videogamesplus has it. Also Amazon and PNP.
i bought the physical version last week some stores here sell games early.. before the official release..
I keep waiting for this to go on sale on the eshop, but haven't seen it drop at all yet. It looks like a terrific game!
Mine just arrived in the mail!
Excited to play it in 2023
EB Games (Canada) should have at least some physical copies left.
Got a copy from Best Buy.
Been waiting for a sale on this game, but it's never been on sale in the eShop. No way I'm paying $25+ or whatever it was for a game I'm not sure I'll like, & that i can't return if i don't.
Great for collectors but I'm just happy with owning the game digitally tbh. It's a really good game by the way. One of the best of 2021. Doesn't go on sale for more than 10%off so I'm happy I bought it on launch day rather than waiting for a sale which I usually do.
@twztid13 LOL just saw your comment. I don't think it will go lower than 10%off anytime soon. I highly recommend it though since I think the price is reasonable. Not really a fan of classic Zelda but I liked the gameplay on this one. There are some great boss fights and the environments+soundtrack is really really good. Combat is simple and snappy. Check out the SwitchUp review as it might convince you Its extremely linear though and there is no backtracking which might turn away some ppl.
This game was such a let down. I thoroughly enjoyed it during the first 5h or so, but I was eventually defeated by the never-ending dialogue sequences.
Pre-ordered this back in March from Amazon and just received a cancellation email....
@Jake_homs I grabbed it from Best Buy and I've already been charged, so I hope it goes through. Good luck!
Didn't need the board game I bought Amazon JPN version and I am fine with that one and bonus it has.
