Update: Just one day after the thing was first announced, Nintendo has kickstarted the second multiplayer test for Mario Kart Tour. You can get in on the action by heading to the game's menu and selecting 'Multiplayer'.
Original Article (Tue 21st Jan, 2020 10:30 GMT): Nintendo has revealed that Mario Kart Tour is set to feature a second beta test for its upcoming multiplayer offerings, and this time everyone can get in on the fun.
We've known that multiplayer racing has been planned for the app ever since it launched back in September last year, but it still hasn't arrived in full form. An initial beta test was put in place in December, but only those with a Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass could take part.
Thankfully, you won't need to have that subscription to join in this time:
As noted by Nintendo, further details on how this will work exactly will appear in-game "soon", so make sure to keep an eye out if you're keen on trying it out. We'd hope that a full release for the multiplayer mode will follow at some point this year, but we'll have to wait and see.
Are you still loading up the app each day? Are you enjoying your time with it, or have you started to get a little tired of it all by now? Let us know how you've been getting on in the comments.

This game is a joke. Asking players to pay for a multiplayer test then making the second test free is the pinnacle of arsehole design and I hope Nintendo gets what they deserve.
@TheAwesomeBowser Nintendo can be a***holes.
another mario kart tour article about this awful "GAME" from Ryan
you can 90% of the time figure out who the articles are from without looking at who wrote it on this site
@suikoden If you're not interested in Mario Kart Tour, you don't have to read the article?
Yes, I - and my colleagues - will write about the game. Whether you like it or not, it's the latest entry in one of Nintendo's most loved and successful series and plenty of our readers will be interested. 🙂
Fun game for FREE.
@TheAwesomeBowser Not asking players to pay, you can have a free access to gold for 2 weeks (over condition to delete his abo before the end). And multiplayer mode must to be free for all players, i think. It's a good news from nintendo to offer a test for all player, because it mean they can deploy multiplayer mode soon
@TheAwesomeBowser
There is nothing erong with testing a feature with a fraction of your player base before a complete launch.
I have really been enjoying this game, but it has been the only feature missing that I wanted. I have been very impressed at how this game rewards patience, as I have so many unlockables without paying a cent
Finally. About time.
@TheAwesomeBowser
Did you (and the others) know that this is a "Test", a "TEST", of something that is in the BETA phase (has errors, bugs, y large etc. of problems), in other words, this multiplayer is being tested, first with few people (that's why only with the golden pass) and right now it will be with ALL , EVERYBODY!!!;
And when the multiplayer are ready to play without problems, this will be for ALL, EVERYBODY!!!
You understand?
@Zeldawakening
Same, as a free to play player with free to play gems I have: Witch Rosalina, Metal Mario, Santa Mario, Pink Gold Peach, Happi Mario, 12/20 of the Super Characters, and all of the common characters. I have played from the start
How are you supposed to play with one finger? My favourite franchise but this to me is a joke. Wish they would've released more mk8 dlc and forgot about this rubbish
Been playing everyday since launch and haven’t spent a penny. Fantastic game. I’m addicted.
@USWITCH64
By auto-accelerating and swiping left and right to turn. Honestly, it wasn't that fun and didn't play much of it.
I just wish Nintendo gave the Switch version of Mario Kart 8 DX some update love, instead of making Pauline playable in the mobile version...
@RadioShadow I downloaded it on day 1 and deleted it about 30 mins later. Would've loved it on 3ds though
@Awesomebird25 I've been on Gold Pass since I started the trial in the middle of last month, but I got Halloween Rosalina, Luigi's Mansion King Boo, Pastry Chef Shy Guy, and Holiday Cheer Daisy without even the trial, and I pulled Metal Mario with rubies I'd have had without being on the trial. My luck's definitely running out, though - last tour, when there were better odds for high-ends, I had to get a third of the way through the pipe to even get one, and I only had enough for that from completing a challenge set.
I played the multi-player for a bit and well, it's standard Mario Kart multiplayer, where skill is pretty much downplayed since your run can be ruined by one(or many) items hitting you at once.
So, its a fun way to kill time, but not something I would seriously play as a test of skill.
One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the fact that some characters can carry up to two or three items per course. I get that all Gacha Games tend to skew toward paying players, but many at least give some sense of fairness to each player.
Here, some characters can carry three times, and when everyone else in the lobby is playing as them, this intensifies the item issue that I talked about above. It also makes it harder for you to use your items since they generally have another one in reserve to block your shot.
Otherwise, its pretty lag free and plays well. My only issue is that the items(which can already ruin your day) seem to be even worse in this game compared to Mario Kart 7 or 8.
There were a few matches where I kept getting hit by numerous items and never had a chance to recover and get back into the race. That, and the RNG kept handing me Green Shells and Mushrooms for some reason.
I just gave up, the weekly cups became impossible to place somewhere above 5-6th place, and it keeps punishing you if you drop below 10th.
I’m sick of the constant pay-to-win requirements in such cups, the rest of the game is perfectly playable without spending a single dollar, but not this particular mode.
