Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

Capital70Q

I definitely think that after this week, I'm a little more grounded in my expectations for the system. Of course, I'm still really excited for the Switch, just a bit more realistic. I still think E3 is gonna be good though (I mean, it has to be with the amount of games announced now, right?)

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

Capital70Q

Seriously though, I think this could be a real winner. I know there were multiple moments for me in that trailer where I was hyped by the games I saw (3D Mario, Spla2oon, or Elder Scrolls anyone?), and I'm fond of the concept, so that's a relief.

Take a deep breath (of the wild...😆) guys. This will be the last moment before the storm of the NX approaches. This is the last moment we may even call it NX. Whatever happens tomorrow, it'll be the turning point people will talk about for the next generation of Nintendo hardware.

See you on the other side.

...or you know, a slightly less intense phrase...

I'm just a bit excited I guess😂.

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Capital70Q

Just something interesting I found; after reading this article, I found the review of RCMADIAX's first game on the eshop (BLOK DROP U) and read the comments. I have to say, I didn't realize how much the public opinion of him changed since he began developing games. If you read the comments on BLOK DROP U, you'll see people thanking him for making great games for the Wii U, and applauding him as a conscientious and listening developer. I'm not saying anything about RCMADIAX, but rather how much the public opinion of him has soured over the 2 years he's been developing. It's just such a stark contrast to how much negativity reception and, for lack of a better word, hate he gets in more recent articles' comments. Again, I just thought this was kinda interesting to point out.

Re: Feature: Ten Ideal Launch Year Nintendo NX Games

Capital70Q

A solid list overall, but I think there's definitely room for some small changes in strategy.

Right off the bat, I'd like to question Spla2oon as a launch year game. Don't get me wrong, I've loved Splatoon since I started playing it in September, but I think that's one of the most obvious problems: it was released not that long ago. A release of Holiday 2017, presumably, would be a fairly quick turnaround for a new installment and may set a bad precedent for the franchise. If there's one thing I don't want the IP to become, it's stale, so it is of the utmost importance that the devs have time to create a true evolution of the first game. I think Spla2oon would best be served by a solid year 2 release to give it space from the original and a long lifespan on the NX.

In Spla2oon's place, I think Nintendo should take the opportunity to revive a dormant racing/sports IP. Whether that be Wave Race, 1080, F-Zero, Pilotwings, or anything else I may be forgetting, it could bring something arcadey and classic with the trimmings of modern game, like online support and more content. It may not be as high-profile as Splatoon, but it would still allow the launch to have a Not-Quite-Traditional-Nintendo-Game to draw in a wider audience to the system. A very practical, if unexpected, replacement.

I would also like to voice my concerns for Super Mario Maker NX over a true 3D Mario game. While I would say that I can understand this more than Spla2oon for the reasons laid out in the article, I still believe that a 3D Mario game, especially if it creates a proper sense of world like in 64, Galaxy 1, and especially Sunshine, would give a more FULFILLING experience than a 2D adventure. Something fulfilling like that will create excitement for the system. There's a case to be made the Super Mario Maker NX would create a lot of hype too, but considering that the first SMM is still pretty young, I don't know if it would be considerably more anticipated than a 3D Mario. Again though, the idea of a platform for all 2D Mario games is enticing, and I can see a scenario where a SMMNX launch would work. If someone without an NX wants to play a 3D Mario releasing in 2018, then heard about a year's worth of 2D Mario they could also play on the system, it deeply increases the chances that they're gonna buy an NX. Still, I think they have room with this one.

As for the rest, all I can really say is that I'm not sure if I'm buying the whole thing about a Game Freak Pokemon at launch. They must have their hands full with Sun and Moon, but I guess it's not impossible for a third game like a supposed "Sky" or something. I would talk about my slight concerns with a Sm4sh port, but honestly, that's starting to feel inevitable at this point. If one of these was to not happen, I would suspect that whatever Retro Studios is working on would replace it.

Those are my thoughts, sorry that it turned out way longer than I intended.

Re: Feature: What Are Your Thoughts, So Far, on Pokémon GO?

Capital70Q

I've actually been enjoying Pokemon Go a fair amount. I've always thought that catching pokemon was the most fun part of the main series games, so when I first heard it announced, I was pretty hyped. I've actually been kind of surprised by the amount of people I know that are also playing it, but I guess that just speaks to power pokemon has in the public eye.

Slightly off topic, but relevant to the point, there's actually going to be an entire day dedicated to pokemon at a Barnes and noble near me on July 16. I just thought that was kind of interesting.
