@dazzleshell In NintendoLife's defense, they're a Nintendo-only site and there's just not enough Nintendo news to keep daily content coming without some fluff, so when a high profile game comes out you can expect to see multiple articles about it over a week or two.
I'd certainly rather see random fluff articles about a new release than the random lists of (sometimes undiscounted) accessories with affiliate links they've done.
If I "beat" a game I reached the ending/credits/etc. If I "finished" a game it usually implies that I beat it and maybe played a bit more but I'm done playing it for now. I never say I "completed" a game but will sometimes say I "100%'d" a game if I did just that.
@rdm22 I think the barebones nature of the collection and lack of controller options are most certainly worth docking a point. The games themselves are 10/10 experiences, but this collection is (arguably) not a 10/10 package.
@EmirParkreiner Except that version is physical only, exclusive to one retailer, and will set me back $70+
If they had just put it on the eShop I would've bought it in a heartbeat. I'm not a fan of these super-limited expensive physical copy sites and from the comments on these articles, this one might be the worst of the bunch.
What I'm getting from this review is that the writer would have equally disliked the GCN original and if we enjoyed the game on GCN it's probably worth picking up the remaster.
I'm not clear why the codes have to change every 30 minutes, but I'm fine with the friend code/follow system in place. I can't think of a single cross-play game on Switch other than this that doesn't require you to create a third party account to log in with.
@Daniel36 While there's no story link, Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade are all from the same creator, so I'm sure some Xenoblade fans would jump at the chance to play his earlier work.
@Anti-Matter The difference with fruits is that - in most games - crops have to be watered every day or they won't grow properly. In Animal Crossing once you've planted some of each type of fruit tree you can ignore them and just go pick fruit whenever you need some extra money (I prefer fishing myself.)
In DQB2 I did the bare minimum of farming and automated the process as soon as possible because I'm just not a fan of maintaining crops in games.
The fact that I don't have to worry about my flowers wilting and dying in ACNH has been a great relief to me.
I'm going to go against popular opinion here and say I'm not really interested in farming in Animal Crossing. My biggest problem with all the various Animal Crossing-like games that have come out over the years is that so many of them seem to have such a big focus on farming. I realize at their core Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing are very similar games, but in practice they've very different experiences.
Hopefully this means a digital release too? I'd prefer to have this collection always on the system and I'm not a fan of these premium-priced limited-print physical editions made for collectors.
@MichaelHarvey People have literally been asking why Pokemon is still a thing for nearly 20 years now. At some point you guys are going to have to realize people will buy things they like even if you don't like it.
I'd really love a remake of the original. I missed it the first time around but then played it on VC and beat it, but man that is a frustrating game to go back to after the sequels. Some enemy spawns are totally unfair, there's not enough screen real estate (even though the game looks fantastic for its time) and most frustrating to me is that Shantae walks like you're stuck in mud unless you hold the Attack button to run, which isn't very intuitive in a game where you're attacking as much as you are in this.
I'd be wary of recommending it as anyone's first dive into the series because it just hasn't aged well mechanically and it might sour their expectations for the sequels.
Pirate's Curse and Seven Sirens are the best of the bunch, Half-Genie Hero and Risky's Revenge each have their shortcomings but are still good games.
It's worth noting to make sure you get Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition which includes all the DLC plus previously-backer-only content that's not available in the regular edition. The non-Ultimate Edition has gone on sale frequently in the past but I would only recommend it to people who don't care about any of the DLC and only want the base game, as you cannot buy all of the extras separately that are included in Ultimate Edition.
I love Space Invaders. I've been checking the eShop regularly since this was added to the JP shop just hoping to see it pop up in the Coming Soon section of the NA shop.
I have to imagine localization would take almost no effort.
If I weren't afraid of losing my villagers I'd probably take a break and only play when I get the urge until the next event. As it is I jump on each morning to dig up fossils, grab my free recipes, check in on my villagers, take care of my money trees, and check the shops.
I have such a huge backlog of games that it's hard to dedicate so much time to just one.
@geni53yr7 I wouldn't pay that much for it, but I'm not a collector. I also already have a copy of the NES cart and also have the Wii VC version. I'm really disappointed the 3DS and Wii U VC versions never made it out of Japan.
@El_Scorpio Even if you can see the exact playtime, I'm not sure how accurate it will be for people who play on more than one Switch system.
Currently each Switch keeps its own internal playtime counter and when you view your playtime on your Profile page it only shows the higher of the two.
For example, if you play Zelda for 50 hours on one Switch system, your profile will say 50 hours. If you then sign into another Switch and play Zelda on your account there, your profile will still say 50 hours until you play the game for more than 50 hours on the new system, at which point it would start showing the time for the new system. So if you play 55 hours there, it'll say 55 hours, instead of the 105 it should display.
On top of this, if a game isn't in your top 20 the first time you play it on a new system, it'll revert to saying "First played X days ago" for 10 days after which it will show the higher playtime of the two.
It's mind-boggling that all this mess came from the same company that gave us the 3DS's robust and exhaustive Activity Log.
I got a card for my favorite villager, Biskit, on ebay for $3 right after the Direct announced how the cards could be used to invite villagers to your campsite.
Given the creative nature of the game and the fact that you have to manually share your stuff online it seems like a huge overreaction. This is akin to banning the sales of poster boards because of their use in protests.
But I guess with the Chinese government it's just a matter of internet connectivity + free speech = banned.
@tendonerd Because if you haven't heard of it, it's shovelware... This particular "shovelware" comes from people who worked on games like Mario RPG, Chibi-Robo, Little King's Story, No More Heroes, and more.
Does the NSO mobile app already have this functionality built-in and it'll magically become visible when we unlock Nooklink on ACNH? Because right now there's no evidence that the NSO app on iOS has any ACNH functionality added at all. I just see Smash and Splatoon 2 on there.
@echoplex It's obviously a technical limitation related to the fact that they insisted on making it mandatory for all users on a single Switch system live on the same island. One user restoring their save would undo another user's progress, transferring one user's save would leave other users without a save, etc.
What I wish they would've done is make it optional and warn players when making an island that if they make it a multi-user island then Cloud Saves and Transfers will be disabled. I doubt very many people really want multi-user islands anyway.
I enjoyed the 3DS version. I'll probably pick this one up too as long as there aren't any microtransactions. I'm curious what control options it'll have though.
As one of the people who is being quoted in this article, I honestly wouldn't have been bothered if I'd logged on to see just the update with the screenshots. It was the condescending tone of the first update that really rubbed me the wrong way.
I bought and enjoyed Chicken Wiggle on 3DS and Jools had a pretty good track record for game releases (with the glaring exception of Treasurenauts) when I backed. So when I, a fan of their games, am starting to wonder if I funded Chicken Wiggle Workshop or the other 3-4 projects they've been working on between the time I backed and now, I can only imagine how the people who aren't as familiar with the company must feel about the excessive delays and lack of updates. Having them skip a promised Q&A September update only for Jools to show up the following month telling us he doesn't owe us any updates at all is just disrespectful to his customers.
I impulse-bought this game on PC during a sale a couple months ago and I liked it enough to 100% it over the course of about 15 hours and then double dip on the Switch version. There are so many ridiculous things you can do in the game world that finding all 100 endings becomes the entire point of playing, and there are a lot of things to unlock as you go.
@PBandSmelly The lawsuit wasn't started until July of this year (NOA began fixing out-of-warranty Joy-cons for free mere days after the lawsuit was announced. Coincidence? I think not.) You can easily find posts on Reddit and even right here on NintendoLife from a year or more before that complaining about drift. A lot of people thought it was the right Joy-con receiver problem when they first experienced it, but they were two separate problems (and I might add, the receiver problem was quickly addressed and fixed by Nintendo, while they ignored the drift problem for a long time.)
@SwitchForce I never called anyone a hater. I said that people who have a proven hardware problem (Joy-con drift) are not necessarily haters.
I also wasn't referring only to people on NintendoLife, but all across the net who have reported Joy-con drift.
That being said, I was talking about drift on Joy-cons, not Switch Lite. I am very dubious of any claims of drift on Switch Lite this soon after launch, and I think it's far more likely that some people just got systems with defective sticks or, in some cases, may be lying for attention.
I myself bought a Switch Lite and love it so far. If it ever does develop drift then I hope I can get it fixed for free, but I'm not going to boycott Nintendo or anything. On the other hand, I'm not going to white knight for Nintendo and pretend they can do no wrong. I think it's too early to add Switch Lite to this class action lawsuit, but I think the existence of the lawsuit in the first place is a good thing if that's what it took to get Nintendo to acknowledge that there was a problem to begin with.
@EvaEeveeFan I've been a loyal Nintendo fan since the '80s and still am. Their hardware never fails to impress me (I even loved my Virtual Boy.) I wish them no ill will at all and want only success for them.
That being said, I had a Joy-con with severe drift that started about 5 months after purchase (bought separately, so 90-day warranty was over.) Over time it got worse and worse. I really didn't want to have to spend the extra money to replace or repair it so I just dealt with it for quite a while. Luckily they started repairing them for free because there have been so many complaints, so I got mine fixed for free and now I'm happy.
Just because someone has a hardware issue doesn't make them a "hater." Especially when there are a whole lot of someones with the same exact issue, including diehard Nintendo fans.
This article and these comments are both severely lacking Cat Quest II. I grabbed the first one for $5 on sale a month or two ago and loved every minute, so I'm happy to pay $15 for the sequel when it comes out.
@LivingLeif It really is terrible. Without even going into the f2p BS, the controls alone are enough to completely ruin the experience. I would happily pay for these tracks as MK8DX DLC but in its current state this game taints the Mario Kart brand.
In Nintendo's Ring Fit video they say "This isn't just any ring, it's actually an electronic device that senses and reacts to your movements." so I'm not sure if they're using the term "electronic device" liberally because of the attached Joy-con or if there may actually be electronics within the ring itself, as opposed to "just a plastic ring."
I think the price is a little steep since the software doesn't look that substantial, but in a market where we're paying $60 for Link's Awakening I'm not entirely surprised (don't get me wrong, I'm super hyped for Link's Awakening, but IMO it should be $50 tops, probably $40.)
Unless it's just some minor interface change regarding the game showing what system you're playing on, there's no reason to start making system-exclusive features for Switch Lite. As many people have said, Switch can do anything the Lite can do. Detecting system color? Detecting Joy-con color. Larger UI option for the small screen? I'm sure some people with a standard model would appreciate it too.
I honestly can't think of anything that would "only make sense on Switch Lite" that isn't some throwaway gag feature, and as someone who will probably pass on the Lite for now, it's a little annoying to think devs would push updates that could run on both models but won't just because.
The Japanese demo has full English support if your system language is set to English, so Americans with a Japanese account can just grab it there if it doesn't go up in NA soon.
And DS was just a "third pillar." Right. The only way 3DS survives this is if the horrible mishandling of the Switch Lite design makes it bomb, and it won't.
@sleepinglion This is part of the Big Block Pack. They're charging $10 for a season pass that (as far as I can tell) includes all the DLC as it's released. On a free game. I don't think there's really anything to complain about with regards to pricing here. $10 is not an expensive game, especially one that gets new features as time goes on.
@BulkSlash They held a poll on twitter asking about platforms at the beginning of the month, Switch had 44% of the vote with PS4/PC at 19% and Xbox at 18% from 3,422 votes. I don't know what crowdfunding site they're going to use but on the announcement linked above it says the campaign will last about a week.
Frankly I hate the fact that Nintendo ever caved to the "but MOBILE!" investors and I wish they would at the very least make versions of these games for the people that bought their hardware. Unless there's some announcement soon, Dr Mario is going to hit mobile while there's no Switch version for people to gravitate toward from mobile, Pokemon Rumble is now on mobile and not Switch, Mario Kart looks slow and boring so far and I'd rather have track DLC for MK8DX, and I've heard nothing but complaints from AC:Pocket Camp players (most recently I hear they sold a plain black texture for premium currency.)
As someone who doesn't have a device that can run most of these games (including their accursed Nintendo Switch Online app now that it requires iOS 11) I feel left out at not being able to play all of Nintendo's games or use all of my NSO sub's features even though I own all of Nintendo's hardware.
Also I demand a retraction from whoever put F-Zero in this article. If F-Zero finds its way to mobile before it returns to a Nintendo system I might just quit gaming.
"The original 151 also eventually found their way to Amazon Japan, so it might be worth keeping an eye out on there nearer to the release date for any more deals."
Aren't these the same as the Sitting Cuties line that you can buy the Kanto versions of on the NA Pokemon Center website for $11 each right now?
@BulbasaurusRex But why would you use the strict limitations of RPG Maker FES and the obsolete 3DS when you could just make an HD lifelike game in Unreal or Unity? It just takes discipline. /s
@retro_player_22 Japan gets the SP versions too. I'm not sure where exactly the decision-making is going on to pick the three games per month, but it seems like NCL is deciding and trying to limit it to one Japan-exclusive when they can so the west still gets two. This month Japan got two Japan-exclusive games and the west got Startropics which doesn't have a Japanese version.
On the bright side, all you have to do is make a Japanese NNID and log into the Japanese eShop on your Switch and you can download the Japanese NSO app and play their exclusives with your regular western NSO sub.
The other upside to this is that if a game has an English version we're likely to get it at the same time as Japan, no matter how obscure or niche the game is. There were games that made it to VC on 3DS in Japan that had Egnlish versions but never made it to the west on 3DS (example - Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom.)
I'm fine with the way they're adding games to the service, I just wish they'd do more games per month so we'll have the full catalog sooner, and by then they'll hopefully have other systems added so nobody will need to complain about "no NES games this month" since they'll be done adding them and any games that can be there will be.

This article and these comments are both severely lacking Cat Quest II. I grabbed the first one for $5 on sale a month or two ago and loved every minute, so I'm happy to pay $15 for the sequel when it comes out.
Re: Mario Kart Tour Is Now Live On Smartphones, But Good Luck Getting To Play It
@LivingLeif It really is terrible. Without even going into the f2p BS, the controls alone are enough to completely ruin the experience. I would happily pay for these tracks as MK8DX DLC but in its current state this game taints the Mario Kart brand.
Re: Ring Fit Adventure File Size Revealed, Download Code Version Also Available
Re: Monster Boy Dev Teases Switch Lite-Specific Game Feature
Re: Try Cadence Of Hyrule For Free With New Switch eShop Demo
The Japanese demo has full English support if your system language is set to English, so Americans with a Japanese account can just grab it there if it doesn't go up in NA soon.
Re: Doug Bowser Says Nintendo Will Continue To Support The 3DS Family Of Systems
And DS was just a "third pillar." Right. The only way 3DS survives this is if the horrible mishandling of the Switch Lite design makes it bomb, and it won't.
Re: The Second DLC Pack For Tetris 99 Will Include Offline Multiplayer
@sleepinglion This is part of the Big Block Pack. They're charging $10 for a season pass that (as far as I can tell) includes all the DLC as it's released. On a free game. I don't think there's really anything to complain about with regards to pricing here. $10 is not an expensive game, especially one that gets new features as time goes on.
Re: R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter Campaign Will Include Nintendo Switch Version
@BulkSlash They held a poll on twitter asking about platforms at the beginning of the month, Switch had 44% of the vote with PS4/PC at 19% and Xbox at 18% from 3,422 votes. I don't know what crowdfunding site they're going to use but on the announcement linked above it says the campaign will last about a week.
Re: Talking Point: Why Nintendo Is Right To Be Cautious With Mobile
Re: Every Single Johto Pokémon Is Being Released In Adorable Plush Form
"The original 151 also eventually found their way to Amazon Japan, so it might be worth keeping an eye out on there nearer to the release date for any more deals."
Aren't these the same as the Sitting Cuties line that you can buy the Kanto versions of on the NA Pokemon Center website for $11 each right now?
Re: You Can Now Make Your Own Game Boy JRPGs With GB Studio
@BulbasaurusRex But why would you use the strict limitations of RPG Maker FES and the obsolete 3DS when you could just make an HD lifelike game in Unreal or Unity? It just takes discipline. /s
Re: Giga Wrecker Alt. Is Receiving A Limited Run Physical Release
I've never really had much interest in this game. I'm not crazy about the art style and just feel kind of "eh..." about the whole thing.
Give me a Drill Dozer 2 with HD Rumble and I'll be there day one though.
Re: Metagal Brings Old School 2D Platforming To Switch This Friday
A lot of games lately blurring the lines between parody, homage, and blatant ripoff.
Re: Nintendo Forgot That You Can't Complete StarTropics Without The Original NES Manual
