Taito's Bubble Bobble 4 Friends will be receiving a sizable update this November alongside the launch of the PlayStation 4 version in Japan.
It will include a new area featuring 100 new stages and invincible enemy "Skel-Monsta" (Baron von Blubba) from the original Bubble Bobble game. This particular character cannot be defeated or trapped within bubbles and will continuously chase down the player while they attempt to clear the stage.
Other new elements of this update will be detailed at a later date. When it does arrive, though, it'll double the number of stages from 100 to 200.
This announcement follows on from a previous announcement back in March, which revealed new stages and the character Baron von Blubba. Here's a look below, in case you missed it:

Can't believe you missed the obvious "Double Bubble Bobble Trouble" headline 😀
Skel-Monsta? Even though it is my favourite game, I never realised that Baron Von Blubba had a different name in Japan!
Waiting for a sale - very pricey atm
I got my Special Edition recently, and i have to say i'm really happy with how this one turned out. After the rather disappointing WiiWare and DS entries, i was a bit concerned, but 4 Friends is definitely a worthy entry in the franchise.
I'm looking forward to playing this DLC and whatever Taito is planning to revive next.A new Darius or Space Invaders would be great.
It's a good game but even with the update it sounds like it's still light on content and extremely expensive for the amount of play time it offers. There's probably only 50 new stages as they count standard and hard modes on the same level design as being different stages.
@niknice Yeah same here, it's an appealing game but it's just not a $40 game in my eyes.
Very cool update! I still haven't bought this one, but this update makes it seem even more appealing to me, with the extra levels and the return of my old nemesis, Baron Von Blubba.
That's a nice update. Haven't gotten around to buying the game yet. Maybe next month when I have free time and people to play with.
Loved the original on my C64, and this is in my Backlog, will get round to it at some point
@JayJ @niknice Agreed. I could maybe see myself paying $30, but I'd be much happier at $20 or less.
Glad they're still doing updates like this. I'm still on the fence but nice updates like this help push me closer to buying.
Love this game. Great to play with the kids, even if they are more of a hindrance than a help.
I'd like to buy this, but I'm still waiting for a significant sale.
Hopefully, Rainbow Islands will also get same treatment, or just give us an Arcade Archives Version (not that Towering Inferno Wiiware game). Also, New Zealand Story needs a rerelease
@EmirParkreiner their actually doing Darius and Space Invaders Collections. Darius is already in the eshop with 2 volumes to choose from. 👍
Whilst the content update is really good and what it really needed, it's frustrating for customers of Strictly Limited Game's physical release which was already delayed to get all of the content on the game card.
@niknice yea, why are bubble bobble games expensive compared to other games in its class?
@RupeeClock Yes indeed, I can relate to your frustration. I am one of those people who dislikes learning about DLC well after release like this - it disinclines me from purchasing the current retail copy. I'd rather wait for the entire package to be integrated on the game card... ... I can wait for something like TLOU 2. We all know there will be later editions. But for something like this...?
@niknice how much will the game cost
i will defenetley buy it. played it for years when the first one came out over 30 years ago.
