Re: Talking Point: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Start At 'The Beginning' Of Series Like Zelda Or Dragon Quest?

Boldfoxrd

Like many others, I grew up playing 2d games so I can still enjoy the likes of zelda 1 and dragon quest 4 but let's be honest, for someone who's first ever games were breath of the wild and dragon quest 11, are they really gonna enjoy going back to the start?

My first play of zelda 1 was in 08 after I played every other zelda but that was a long time ago and games are pretty different now with how so many improvements like auto save exist.

I'd personally recommend every gamer who starts with the newest to check out the older ones but it is different to not have lived through it all as there's no way to truly appreciate games evolution but there are definitely some games that should be played matter what, eg start with link to the past over zelda 1 if you never played an old zelda

Re: Here Is This Week's 3DS eShop Chart, Pokémon Crystal Is At The Top (Again)

Boldfoxrd

I've got a lot of bus and train travel coming up next week and have Crystal waiting for then.

Great to see it doing so well. I certainly wouldn't pay 40 pounds plus for the cart.

I also downloaded kirbys dreamland 2, wario land 2 and 3 as well. Terrible timing for the 3ds down button on dpad to get stiff but circle stick is okay until I can find a replacement.

Re: Video Game History Foundation Calls Out Nintendo's "Destructive" 3DS & Wii U eShop Closure

Boldfoxrd

It is awful. This is why I plan to emulate when I get a new laptop.

Luckily I own metroid prime trilogy on wii but if I didn't, and I don't download it off wii u store in time, what do I do? Pay nearly 100 pounds for a 2nd hand copy or download the rom?

If I have no realistic way of getting the game (and being 2nd hand means Nintendo get nothing anyway) then why not get it for free online?

Games are art and should be obtainable new no matter what. It was the sane when the wii shop closed. So many master system games like Alex kidd in shinobi world and sonic chaos are now gone. Luckily I still have my wii u for my many downloads over both generations and the 3ds with the ambassador games plus regular downloads like oracle of seasons but when the consoles break down and Nintendo won't allow a 3ds system transfer, what is the alternative?

Re: Best Of 2021: Retro Nintendo Games Cost Too Much, But Nostalgia Is Expensive

One thing I never understood was why Nintendo and other companies didn't re-release games when they ran on the same console.

Why during the Wii era did they not release Paper Mario 2, Viewtiful Joe, Ikaruga, Luigi's Mansion 1 as Wii titles and just put a originally on Gamecube image on the cover.

I understood why they wouldn't do this with games being updated, eg Pikmin 1 and 2 but why not release the games again to give them that second chance.

Re: Bill Gates Apparently Put "A Lot Of Pressure" On Xbox's Team Leaders To Respond To The Wii Craze

Microsoft's story is scarily like Sega's. First console did well but had no chance next to the biggest rival (master system v nes and xbox v ps2), then started extremely well but was eventually outsold worldwide (mega drive v snes and 360 v ps3) because they put a lot of focus on an add on rather than focusing entirely on the games in the run up to the next true console (mega cd and 32x v snes just releasing games and not bothering with an add on), and this resulting in a botched launch for the true follow up (saturn and x1) that they did everything to fix for the console after (dreamcast and series x/s).

Fortunately Microsoft are going nowhere. They have the money to survive it. Sadly Sega didn't despite how good the Dreamcast was and with Sony clearly being keen to kill the Dreamcast ASAP.

I'm glad Microsoft have turned it round. I was one of the many people to go from ps2 to 360 to ps4 and then (in a few months time) series x.

Its a shame about Sega but it is scary to see how similar Microsoft's story is to Sega. But the lesson is clear.

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

Boldfoxrd

Zelda 2, Spirit Tracks and Triforce Heroes.

I would have liked spirit tracks more if it weren't for the awful pipe blowing parts. Much like mine kart jumping on Skyward Sword on wii, I just couldn't get any further than that.

Zelda 2 I hated. Awkward controls for side scrolling fights, very difficult fights and just not any fun. I felt like the graphics were actually worse in 2 as well.

And Triforce heroes I hated. Too dependant on other players and simply nothing on four swords adventure.

What is it that some of the pro exp share people don't understand about why we don't want it on all the time?

Like people have said, it makes the game too easy, causes pokemon we don't want levelled up to get stronger, affects ev training and doesn't fit with the original feel for the game.

If you are happy with exp share, that's brilliant but its pretty obvious why a lot of us don't want it forced on us.
