Last month, Nintendo shocked 3DS owners by announcing the eShop for this platform would be closing up.
If you are interested to know what's charting in the lead-up to this or happen to be looking for digital games to get on your 3DS, these North American charts are worth taking a look at. Here are the top 20 best-selling digital games on the 3DS eShop for 2nd March 2022.
As you can see Pokémon and Zelda games are absolutely dominating the charts right now. There are also some Mario and Kirby games in there, and a few smaller titles like Pushmo and BoxBoy. Pokémon Crystal has unsurprisingly taken out the top spot once again. Here's the full list via Nintendo Everything:
1. Pokemon Crystal (Game Boy Color)
2. Pokemon Yellow (Game Boy)
3. Pokemon Red (Game Boy)
4. Pokemon Gold (Game Boy Color)
5. Pokemon Silver (Game Boy Color)
6. Pokemon Blue (Game Boy)
7. Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Game Boy Color)
8. Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Game Boy Color)
9. Pokemon Dream Radar
10. Pokemon Trading Card Game (Game Boy Color)
11. Pushmo
12. Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D
13. 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure
14. Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
15. Super Mario Land 2 (Game Boy)
16. Tomodachi Life
17. Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX (Game Boy Color)
18. Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale
19. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (Game Boy)
20. BoxBoy!
And in case you missed it, Pokémon Bank is going to be free from March 2023. Have you downloaded anything from the 3DS eShop since Nintendo announced its closure? Leave a comment down below.

Grabbed Kirbys Dream Land a week ago, really want to have as many Kirby games as possible before the service shuts down so I'll be grabbing the last 3 or 4 eshop games I don't have sometime soon!
No wonder, those Pokemon games are so much fun to play even after all those years, especially Crystal and Yellow.
Just picked up Rhythm Thief
Got all of the Pokémon games, but didn't think about the Zelda Oracle games. Been busy getting all of the DLC for the Fire Emblem games; fun fact - you can't purchase it normally through the eShop and can only get it through story progression!
I absolutely love the artwork from that era.
They could make a sprite-based Gen II remake with that kind of artwork, and I wouldn't object.
But I would much rather see a reimagined Johto in the style of the upcoming Scarlet/Violet. Imagine all of that beautiful Japanese architecture that they can draw from for inspiration.
@Silly_G I was really hoping for Let's Go Johto, disappointed that we didn't get it this year.
@Silly_G I wish they’d remake these games too. However I despise the new art direction. I’d rather have them like a top-down RPG. I guess something like Brilliant Diamond? (Haven’t played those yet)
Tbh the DS remakes of Gold and Silver were amazing.
@Thief : I'm confident that we'll get Gen II remakes (and possibly Legends: Celebi) sooner or later, but I'm happier with what we're getting this holiday period.
@fafonio : I have to disagree about Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. While they aren't the worst looking games, the occasions where the camera zooms into the action is really awkward, and the chibi models are embarrassing to look at up close.
I would have taken something closer to Sword/Shield with respect to the overworld aesthetic any day of the week.
BD/SP's water animations and overworld lighting was really nice though.
@Dragwhite Good choice, I really recommend 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure too! 😊
I don’t understand why Nintendo isn’t moving the Game Boy games to be sold on Switch eShop.
@Don They don't like to make smart decisions
I've got a lot of bus and train travel coming up next week and have Crystal waiting for then.
Great to see it doing so well. I certainly wouldn't pay 40 pounds plus for the cart.
I also downloaded kirbys dreamland 2, wario land 2 and 3 as well. Terrible timing for the 3ds down button on dpad to get stiff but circle stick is okay until I can find a replacement.
I have all of these already and after browsing the eshop thoroughly the other day I really don't think there's anything else on there that would interest me.
Im hoping that they do more pkmn games like the did on 3ds on switch as well
Makes me wonder if they'll eventually add the game boy pokémon games to the eventual Switch game boy app. And wonder if they're going to be incorporating multiplayer functionality into the game boy games that originally had them.
All those videos about 'games you should buy during the last eShop days' kee pushing Pushmo. Some also recommended Box Boy, too.
“ Have you downloaded anything from the 3DS eShop since Nintendo announced its closure?”
I haven’t…probably do some eshopping this weekend 😎🎮
I've never played a Pokemon game in my life. But I feel like I should buy the old GB and GBC games just to have in case I change my mind. haha.
I did quite a lot of eshopping recently 😅
Mostly on Wii U, and quite a lot still on 3ds
@Tainaru Yeah I think as a series even its oldest entries are quite "modern". Even Gen 1 represents modern RPG sensibilities.
There's just so many things in it that are like Repels, convenient fast travel, random encounters relegated to patches of grass and caves rather than everywhere outside towns. No limit on where and when you can save the game.
There's tech limitations but otherwise it's still an experience that hasn't fallen out of favour.
Just in case anyone's interested, here's the current top Japanese 3DS games, according to the Japanese 3DS eShop's ranking pages. English title used where possible, asterisk means it is/was on sale.

I kiiiinda wish I had an idea of what was coming to NSO in future, so I could prioritize what needs buying, and what I can just get off NSO.
I'm hoping to get a part-time job when I turn 16, so I can get myself a 3DSXL and as many eShop cards as I can so I can purchase as many VC games as possible (and Zara the Fastest Fairy).
I plan to make my 2DSXL my mini emulation station because the cartridge port is kind of wonky.
@faint Excellent choice. This is surely one of the most underrated games on the Nintendo 3DS, if not the most underrated!
@Z-Core Just in case you didn't know, Zara only runs on the "New" models of 3DS.
@starlac thank you for the reminder!
Two games I just bought that were surprisingly good are Pocket card jockey and Mario & DK: Minis on the move.
I've picked up a few eshop titles and did a lot of digging through games at my local used game stores. Some games though are going to have to be a digital pick up for me, namely Yo-Kai Watch.
eshop pickups I grabbed this week that I've been enamored by are Pocket Card Jockey and Nintendo Badge Arcade (Curse you micro transactions!)
@Strumpan
Pocket Card Jockey has turned out to be wildly fun (and sometimes quite challenging?) Only sad that I didn't pick it up sooner. A great game for when you have five minutes to spare.
Edit: I'll have to try one of the Minis games, I haven't played any.
It's a pretty good game. I have it on my MiSTer FPGA. Pretty sure it was the 1st pokemon game with animations.
@Spunky Regarding the minis games, Minis on the move is quite different from the others in the series and I like it a lot more.
@Z-Core I hacked my majora's mask 3DS, totally worth it. The newest versions of the hack allows you to play DS roms natively off the system. Though the 3DS itself is super uncomfortable to hold for more than like 20 minutes when you have huge hands like mine so I just emulate now.
@Strumpan
Good to know! I'll have to check it out and give it a shot. I remember seeing the series mentioned all the time in Nintendo Power
I got my girlfriend some 3DS themes and plan to get her and me the first two Trine games on the Wii U eShop. Also, after I finish the first Ace Attorney trilogy (currently on the third one, Trials and Tribulations), I'm going to need to get the next three as well. Let's make 2022 the year of the 3DS and Wii U!
As long as the shared wallet thing continues between Switch, 3DS, and Wii U even after they turn off the ability to use your credit card and eshop cards on the Wii U and 3DS, hopefully you can still redeem eshop gift cards on your Switch and those funds will show up on the 3DS and Wii U eshops still to make any last min purchases.
Not surprising. Those are all quality games IMO. I'll be grabbing the occasional title or two over the next year from both eShops.
Fantasy life! As apparently the US version cartridge is impossible to find and mine was loaned out to son's girlfriend. I really wish they would nake a version of this for the switch!
I've never enjoyed Yellow or Crystal as much as Red/Blue & Gold/Silver respectively. Wonder how many people are gonna play Crystal looking for a Mareep not knowing you can't catch it in that version.
I'm still thinking there'll be a GB-GBC Online App(s) either this year or after the e-Shops shut down next year. Whether they'll include RBY & GSC, or whether they'll be part of the $20 or $60 plans though...
Should I get Crystal if I already played Soul Silver? Like, does it offer anything that the remake doesn't?
Any chance of NLIFE10 coming back? It literally disappeared so quickly.
I spent my money on Gurumin 3D and Radiant Historia.
Gurumin is such a lovely little Action/Adventure, sort of Ys for children. I already had it on PSP, and there is no physical 3DS version, so I always struggled with buying it.
Radiant Historia is also one of those games that I always planned to buy later. And that the price for the physical version skyrocketed.
