In today's Nintendo Direct, it was confirmed that Splatoon will soon be receiving a massive influx of content.
In terms of what's being added, two new maps are set to enter the rotation, called Mahi Mahi Resort and Museum d'Alfonsino. Museum d'Alfonsino will go live in an update on 14th November and Mahi Mahi Resort will be showing up in an update sometime between now and January. Additionally, over 40 pieces of new gear will be added in an update today that will most notably include bandanas and winter themed gear.
Finally, there will be an official Splatoon tournament hosted by the Nintendo Treehouse during December. Not many details were given, but we'll likely be hearing more about this in the near future. In the meantime, check out this footage of the new content in action:

Yeah.
bandanas ! :- )
Great that it's all free so far!
I wish they'd do more mario kart 8 dlc too
AWESOME! This will hold me over nicely till Xenoblade comes out.
I'm loving the museum stage. I fear I'll be doing a lot of drowning in Mahi-mahi though. X(
YES! Great Direct, this was the icing on the cake for me
Yesssss moving platforms! I'm ready!
Love that this game keeps on giving
@HeroOfTime32
And for free too! Any other game (Smash Bros. unfortunately included) would charge you $20 or more for that many costumes.
Can someone explain how the rollers got nerfed in the last update? I'm still getting OHKO by carbon rollers spray and Dynamo rollers spray from like 30 feet away.
something musta been in my ears... i coulda swore i heard them say the museum was going to be out tonight...
Me likey likey... Can't wait to play Mahi Mahi Resort - looks awesome, although so does Museum d'Alfonsino with all the moving platforms...
Only drawback, I basically don't play anything else these days :-s
Q) What do you think?
A) It's good to see that Splatoon is continuing to get free DLC content. It is a nice factor that does bring me back from the game, so that even when I don't play it in huge bursts, I do at least come back to it every now and again.
Q) Are you looking forward to the new content?
A) None of the new gear stood out to me in the trailer, although the mention of winter gear does perk my interest. The poolside resort stage, Mahi Mahi Resort, looks beautiful... and deadly. That much water makes the stage rather ominous in a strange way.
I feel that Museum d'Alfonsino is the more interesting of the two stages; the art museum design is nice, and the stage itself seems more unique with it's rotating platforms and overall size. It might have just been me, but the stage looked massive.
Q) What else would you like to see added to Splatoon?
A) Hmm, some new single player levels/challenges? It could even be done through new amiibo, I certainly wouldn't mind going and getting amiibo's of the Squid Sisters or the shop keepers.
Expanding further on that, perhaps even an additional single player campaign, or the some levels that allow you to play co-op (it seemed like Splatoon's story mode was perfectly set up for co-op, given there were two former agents). Admittedly, these things feel like they'd fit in the realm of Splatoon 2 rather than as free DLC updates, but they'd still be nice to see.
I would also like to see that scrapped retro Splatoon game that we saw in earlier trailers come back as an in game arcade cabinet. That would be pretty sweet.
never forget splatoon
THEY'RE PLAYING ON A POOL!
