Well after a lot of excitement I have to say the art style somehow is not true to streets of Rage atmosphere. But what made streets of rage great was not art style or atmosphere but gameplay. We have to wait and see how the gameplay turns out.
@Spudworthy I said this six years old low res port which most people played it to death on other platforms is not interesting, except for Nintendo purists and those who are interested in “portability”. I mentioned your point; in another words I made a conditional judgment on the value of this port.
I’m not interested at all. Played the game both on PC an PS4 (i.e superior versions). This is only interesting for Nintendo purists and those interested in portable gaming. And I’m non of them.
Damn... I remember buying Grandia 2 when I was 19. I finished the game in 3 days and it suddenly became my favorite rpg of all times. I’m talking about sixteen years ago.
There was and is sacrifice to the experience. These game are reliant on framerate, reaolution, and texture detail. These are graphics dependent tiltles. So lower framerate and resolution affect the game experience.
Roms is the best possible way to keep alive the legacy of the past. And there’s also a commercial side for companies. People know the games in the rom sites and there will be a chance that they buy them if a legal port release on their consoles. For example I never knew a game like Shock Troopers back in the day. But Neo Geo emulation make that game known to me and when the game released on Switch I bought it gladly. If There were no emulation, I would not know that game and so no mony for developers.
@fluggy it’s about love of randomness, difficulty, retry button, losing all progress, dying alot, chance based success, soulless computer designed rooms and things, light or no storyline, lack of character design, and things like that.
Not interested in these roguelikes games. But good for the fans. My only concern for the fans is their limited time and this endless spam of roguelikes which somehow is in harmony with the taste of reviewers.
Maybe a port of two first games to Switch. I’m fine with it, because I always wondered how these games look like on a better screen. Octopath Traveler success is a good news for reviving classic jrpgs on Switch and that’s what I’m expecting from my Switch. If I wanted a photorealistic FF game I shall play that on my PS4 pro and not on a device that does not designed to run these kind of games. As a famous british philosopher said “everything is what it is and nothing is gained by conceptual confusions”. If you want a photorealistic open world game you have choosen the wrong device.
Good for the fans. But the game was a huge disappointment for me. I’m not going to buy any of its dlcs. In my opinion Octopath Traveler is the best RPG on Switch right now.
Every genre done right will sell well. To be honest, most of the turn based jrpgs these days are total garbage riding on superficial nostalgia and fan service and that’s why turn based jrpg became a niche genre. Do it right (I am Setsuna, Octopath Traveler, Shin Megami Tensei IV, and Bravely Default) and the outcome would be desirable.
I don’t care about these technical discussions. To me Octopath is the best thing produced by Square since DQVIII. A brilliant game with charming visuals, excellent music, an attractive and deep battle system, and charming little stories that dont pretend to be anything grand or Tolstoy like. All in all, this game is about walking slowly in the “Stillsnow” and enjoying the beautiful sight, excellent music, and that dark little story about sexual underworld. Pls save these FPS and RES debates for your Dooms and Wolfensteins.
@kevin74 well I agree that the game was somehow well recieved by the critics, but the game is not a proper and true FF. FFXV is a game without character and identity, a failed attempt to rival big western open world action RPGs like whitcher 3. It tries its best not to be a FF and this is the only thing that they are succeeded in. You can compare FFXV in regards FF franchise with what RE5 was to RE franchise. That game was also well received, but it was not a proper RE game. The only thing that saved both games was their multi million marketing campaign and their pathetic and shallow attempt to conform to the mainstream standards.
Damn! Octopath Traveller! I played it for 8 hours. For a 35 years old gamer like me that’s very very long. It reminds me FF10 amd Diablo 2 days which I play the games for all day without any worries and responsibilities. Right now I have many worries and responsibilities but Octopath Traveller made me forget them for a day.
Read carefuly: he said that Switch is not the “ideal” platform for the title. I think he’s right. In the same way Xbox is not the ideal platform for jrpgs.
Well I think if a console reach a certain level of sales and popularity hacking will not affect it or developers in any meaningful way. For example hacking a 3ds takes you less than 20 minuets, but that console prints money for Nintendo. If Switch pass 25 million sales I think hacking will not affect the economy of the console considerably.
Profit is an elusive concept and “budget” isn’t the only factor in determining it. For big companies like Nintendo “expected” profit is the more important factor. Because they are a multi section company that fund their other sections with the “expected” profit from that section. If the profit is below the expected profit, they dont call it “profitable “. If I remember correctly a while ago Nintendo stated it’s dissatisfaction with the profits of Mario Run.
PES is way better than Fifa. And honestly I don’t care about this licensing issues. Because except for team name you have everything else (player real names etc)
Unfortunately after playing the demo I have mixed feelings about this game. I really wanted to love it but something was off about this game. Battle system and atmosphere didn’t appeal to me at all. I don’t know maybe I was in bad mood. This game was one of my main reasons for buying the Switch and I had maximum hype for it, but demo killed that for me. I shall wait for the reviews and maybe I give the demo one more try.
I’m more a 16 bit guy than an 8 bit guy. Thus I dont like these modern 8bit style games (unless they really be good games and not just a nostalgia cash grab).
@KCMOTO Good decision. Sadly I bought it at full price and regret my purchase. This game is only about aesthetics and nostalgia. Other than that you find in it only repetition and grind.
I expected that. To be honest Nintendo did not manage well virtual console in the past (compare it to PS1 classics on Vita and Ps3). Their list was always incomplete and overpriced.
